Young man and the mountain

Our favorite adventurer --by wheel, by foot, who knows what's next-- Wojciech arrived in Portland today. I'll be taking him out for pizza tonight and helping him get setup with a foot doc so he'll be shipshape for his return to the trail in a few days...

pizza!? is that the best you can do?
David --apparently PCT hikers develop certain cravings out on the trail... our man went with a ham and pineapple pie. And this was some high-quality pie...

Hey guys! Many of you don't know me, I used to race back in 09/'10 (when I kicked butt) then went on a 10k 'round-the-country bike tour and lost all of my fitness. My lack of winning races led to a severe depression and I've been living under a bridge for the past year.

Just Kidding! I'm out here on the west coast hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, a 2650 mile footpath from the Mexican to the Canadian border through some of the most remote US wilderness areas. I've covered some 2160 miles already in 85 days and hope to finish the remaining 513 miles of washington in 14 days for a 99 day thru-hike!

It's been an amazing experience. The desert in socal, the sierras through Kings canyon, Yosemite, Mt. Whitney, norcal through Marble Mountain wilderness, the fires, fellow hikers, thunderstorms & isolation for days has made me a true mountain guy! I even went 32 days without a shower (I'm super proud of that personal record)

If I get back to NYC for the winter I'll definitely have some awesome stories to share on those much missed 9w group rides, otherwise look for updates on my 4000+ mile rowing trip down the Mississippi River and up the Intercoastal Waterway next summer (:

Thanks to Norm for having me here in Portland for a few days! What was supposed to be my "zero" day turned to a 52 mile ride in the surrounding Pdx hills. I loved it!

Some photos below, feel free to add me on facebook for updates, facebook.com/wojplata

Good luck this cross season everyone!

Shit Woj, those are some serious miles. I think the trail record is just shy of 80 days.

Say hello to the PNW for me and enjoy the North Cascades - they are pretty special.
So Awesome!
