Cooper River Cross

I don't know anything about this race, but it's pretty close and it doesn't conflict with any other CX racing. Anyone done this one? Anyone planning to do this one? I could probably be convinced.

i'm signed up for the Cat 4 40+  Masters race but have a really bad chest cold, possibly bronchitis so I'm not sure if I'm going to make it there or to Whirlybird the day before....
Nelson and Phillip are reg'd for the 4's

I'm staying overnight in Philly after Whirlybird and heading over Sunday morning to race the Bs.

Marc did really well there last year.

It's a fun course, pretty simple. Easy parking and access.

I got 5th today. I thought I had a shot at another podium, but the top 4 places were all dudes who beat me at Westwood and they kicked my ass. I did beat the guy who took 2nd on day two of Independence cross, catching him on the last lap.

I got a good start, took the lead, and put the gas on. I was hoping to get a gap with one or two others, and then peel off and let them do the work.

My strategy worked, until the guy in front of me jammed me up by breaking too hard in a technical section. The guy behind me caught my rear derailleur and held me up for just a second. It was too long for me to catch back on. The eventual winner, some 18 year old kid, went across to the lead group after that mishap, so it wasn't impossible but I think I was just spent from yesterday. My back and ribs were killing me from the pre-ride on so there wasn't much I could do on that front. My legs felt pretty good though, so I'm happy.

I won another $30 - can't complain about that except that the top 3 got cash and beer so that felt a little salty.

Anyone get any follow-up emails from the Cooper River cross promoter? It turns out I AM an idiot and managed to leave my long sleeve fleecy Kissena jersey at the start of the race, along with my leg warmers. I emailed the promoter through the bike reg website, but I'm not sure if those email addresses go through....

Yours truly,
Dopey McDopesalot.
Sorry Marc - no other emails since the one that said results were posted.
They also have a fairly active FB page. Maybe post there as well.
Marc,
Jeff Appeltans is the promoter.  Find him on FB and go from there.
@Marc - according to their FB page, they have kits left by people from Sunday.  Just contact them if you're missing something.

I think we are seeing a diff't FB page...I don't see that message. Also, the promoter emailed me and said he didn't have anything...

maybe you could send me a link to the page you are seeing?

thanks!

I also asked about your jersey so let's see what they say.

Oh, never mind...I see they have multiple FB pages...I just posted something and see you did too! Thanks Phillip! #hopespringseternal

Is this glass half full or half empty? In the last few weeks, the bike, my cell phone, now the jersey...all lost, then found. If it wasn't for my craptacular surgery a few weeks ago, and my fast sinking crossresults.com pointage, I'd say I'm having the luckiest few weeks of any dude anywhere!
I'd say, and I guess this says a lot about my personality, but you should actually rejoice since you got them all back!  haha..
Got 13 out of 45 at cooper compared to last years 53 out of 76. Felt pretty good during the race even after doing whirlybird on Saturday. I was able to cut some time and pass some people near the barriers, I would dismount before the tree while going down and then remount after that small paved section. Might start running a little more in future races.
After hearing the bell for one lap to go I caught a second burst of energy and was able to pass 3 people. Overall I'm happy with my placement but I have to practice my endurance a bit more.
BTW, someone found some Kissena shorts at a race recently.  I'll pick them up at Marty Cross.  Identify yourself!

Shorts? Good god man, what are you doing taking your shorts off and leaving them behind at a cross race!? Haha.

Results bro...

Looks like Andy wins another Cat 4 race!

A field of 18 Cat 4 women, which strikes me as a nice size field for a Cat 4 women's field. Not so many that it feels overwhelming, but also enough so that you are hopefully having inter-race battles no matter where you are in the pack. Gotta get our women crossing s'more!

Also a handful of other KCC competing on the day. Hopefully they will share stories!

WooHoo!  Andy won the women's race!

Wait.

Not sure what the cat 4 women's race has to do in a report about DS winning.

In the cat 3 race I dropped out with 1.5 to go. Same old same old. Joe fought back hard from an early crash to get 11th as he enters season retirement. Konrad started closing in on a top 5 but cracked his carbon wheel which slowed him down considerably, but in the end he held on to a top 10. Nelson has one of this better races of the season with 20th. He was in the mix early and as he gains fitness he'll start cracking that top 10.

Wait, Joe is done with cross for the season? #booifitstrue
Bump!

Whose going in 2022?
I am planning on it.
yup
I bruised my knee on Sunday. It's still sore. I'll try to train tomorrow and decide whether or not I will go.

I'll pass on Cooper River. Too sore. I'm registered for Croton and Beastcross next week.

@Remy Forgues  Rest well.

Whose in for Cooper River?  I'm doing the 50+.  Haven't worked out transport yet.  Can rent a Zipcar, I think, and can take someone.  Possibly two if the car is big enough.
Not to toot my own horn, but the spreadsheet is a good way to check who is going to what races to coordinate rides

toot away.

thanks
I'm doing some youtube recon and it seems like the course (at least last year) isn't too technical. 2 small sets of steps, and some tight switch backs, but no sand, no mtb style sections or steep off cambers/kickers (though it's always a bit hard to tell via helmet cam).

Anyone have any recommendations based on previous experiences?
