I would attend a 2014 Cat 1/2/3 team racing planning meeting

A meeting to discuss the race calendar, outline individual and team goals and plan how to accomplish those goals.
Because it's time to up our game oh ye of the orange helmets....
If we're going to race together, might as well meet up, sync our cycles, and master the magic handshakes.

The problem is we're actually a pretty large and diverse group.

Okay, so to the 9 riders who answer the poll, I'm going to try to find a date/place for this meeting. Thinking about it, for me, it's impossible to get to anywhere in Brooklyn before 8pm on a weeknight, and that's only two weeks out of every month, the other two weeks, it'd be closer to 9pm at the earliest.

So, I'm going to look at the race calendar and suggest we meet before/after either a 1/2/3 race or 1/2/3 only group ride. I'll try to find a date when, for example there is basically only a PP race, or no race, then suggest we ride to Piermont some early morning and have our meeting over coffee or something there.

Of course I'm open to ideas. But I do think it's important to get on the same page somewhat as we enter the season with some face-to-face dialog.
I'm open to attending for sure, whether I can just depends when and where it takes place.

What do you guys think about Sunday March 23rd after the Spring Series race in Central Park? No other race conflicts.

We could race, help JP get some more points (he's already got series sign-up points + points from his last 10th place), then either spend 20-30 minutes chatting after the race on site (fingers crossed for warmer weather)....or head on up to Piermont for more miles and coffee and chat there?
Marc, I am in, although:
Sunday, March 23
Bethel Spring Series
NYC Spring Series
Tour of the Battenkill SPRING PREVIEW
9am Kissena Road Bike Day at the Vel
What If the meeting was at the velodrome?
Hmmm...forgot about road bike day at the Velodrome. Crap. There's always going to be some conflict, but I won't schedule something to conflict with an official KCC mentor-led event.
could be afterwards, or between.

Okay team, so it's kind of now or never for this meeting. Since JP thinks we could squeeze in a meeting after the CP race on the 23rd, I'm going to go ahead and officially call the meeting for that date.

Again, I know that many of you aren't fond of racing Spring Series stuff in CP, but this date seems to have the least amount of conflicts. And if you aren't interested in racing, you could just roll past CP for, say a 20-minute chat, around 8am on your way to either the Velodrome event or over the GWB, whatever you have in mind for your Sunday.

To keep the meeting tight like a rotating paceline, attendees should come with their general race calendar in mind and be prepared to not only talk about their personal racing goals, but ways in which they would like to contribute to the success of their teammates as well.

I'd like us to function better as a 1/2/3 team this year, and now that our ranks have grown significantly, I feel we need to tighten up ship a bit better and this meeting is a first step of sorts. I understand that not everyone will be able to make the meeting, but if you can, consider making it a priority.
Can we identify an local indoor venue for this? I've been getting super cold after SS races.
I'm with Vlad on this.

Let me ponder...Absolute Bagels on 108th and Broadway has some indoor seating, and might not be crowded 8am-ish on a Sunday. My building on 157th/Riverside has a room they rent out, but I have no idea how much or if KCC would pay for that sort of thing. Plus the location might take us too far afield for JP and others planning on going to the velodrome.

Alright...getting a fair amount of push-back on my suggestion for time/place of this meeting. Weekday nights in Brooklyn, because of childcare, are a no-go for me. And because I can't as of this time guarantee a warm spot to talk this weekend.

I'm going to drop the idea.
I could offer my apt in the Village if you can find an evening.that suits at least a quorum. Close to just about every transit line and NOT in Brooklyn.
Thanks David for your generous offer! Are there days/dates/times which are unworkable for you?

I'll look at the calendar again and make one more attempt at getting this together.
Can we set up one of those voting systems where people choose what day is best?
Not this week.

OK, looks like Monday the 24th is the best for everyone. I'm checking with my wife, but I expect she'll say ok for this date. Shall we say 7pm?

3 Washington Square Village, Apt. 6I
corner of Laguardia Place and Bleecker St
across from Morton Williams grocery store

anything else you want to know.
Awesome, thanks again David and family Stokes! Sarah informs me that her bosses are going to be out that day, so she'll be able to leave early enough that I should be able to make it there by 7.

David, did the Monday evening meeting get approval by the Stokes Family Board?
Yes. The meeting is on!
So is this thing happening? Wondering who plans to show.
I'm there. With bells on. And a note pad.
I'll be there (it's my apartment) and I think it would be good to have the meeting. but I am not the organizer, just the facilitator.  Many people have indicated their availability, and I would like to  assume that they intend to come. But perhaps it would be nice to have a show of hands. Who is setting the agenda?
I'll be there

I'll be there. 7PM?
I'll be there

Since the meeting was my idea, I'll set the agenda. Loosely though, as described above:

"A meeting to discuss the race calendar, outline individual and team goals and plan how to accomplish those goals. "

So attendees should definitely spend some time thinking about their race year.
  • What are your personal A-priority events?
  • What are the team's A-priority events?
  • How do you think we can accomplish both/either?
  • Creation of general Pro 1/2/3 race calendar?
  • Importance of road captain and/or DS at key events?
  • Importance of pre-race meetings?
  • How do we not be Mengoni (a group of strong individuals who have little or no interest in working for each other)?
  • Selection process for "invitational" events?
  • Budget for said events?
  • Effort to get invited to regional class pro 1/2 races?
I'll plan on bringing my computer...also some cash to chip in for a pizza order. Folks should bring some beverages of their choice to share.
I'm planning to be there.
