Let's see, at the cat 4 level:

• There were 4 or 5 Kissenas pre-reg'd but only I showed up last minute, non pre reg. --- wtf peeps.
• As early season races tend to, lap 2 included a few attacks and counters, eventually 2 guys stay away
• I feel for them, as their goal is now to ride the rest of the race out there in the cold
• One of them will eventually win
• Soon after, 2 other guys chase, they will stay away too
• Those attacks and counters were fun, and kept the pack fast, that was the best part of the race
• Pack then settles and slooooows down
• I catch up with my friend Johnny, we chat cyclocross, because obvs
• With a little over 2 laps to go, I attack
• 2 other guys think I'm serious and come with me
• "oh, you guys want to go like hard hard for realz, yeah..., eh, no, that's not gonna work for me" I settle back in the pack
• They will finish the race 5th and 6th
• super mellow group sprint
• was safe, cold, kinda slow, and super fun
• later, second breakfast included eggs burke and nutella crepes w/ mom visiting from Caracas

i was one of the cat 4 reg'ers that didnt show up-i wussed out because of the weather. If a situation happens like this in the future ill make sure to put it on the forums.

Yes, it was cold.  I figure about 25 degrees.  By the finish, Osmo in non-insulated Osmo bottle was a thick slurpee.

But c'mon, it's a bike race.  Just ride there with extra clothes on, strip down a layer or two to race, race, put back on layers, and a fresh pair of gloves and maybe a hat, go to Konditori, warm up, ride home.

The 1/2/3 was cut on the line to 9 laps.  We were starting at 6:45 and there was a running race on the other side of the park.  

Oh yeah, and for your softies, Condon was there after being all beardcubed yesterday and Keith worked all night, did registration, and then raced.

Seventy-something pre-reg, quite a few no- shows, and we go.  Starting lap was fairly mellow.  I was pretty sure an early move would take it.  And with Jake riding well, Keith a reliable support, and Condon, I figure I might as well try early.  An acceleration after the start of the second lap, and I follow.  Caught by the temple, but Keith rolls off with another rider.  Vollbach, nearly unrecognizable in leg warmers, goes after.  I figure free ride and take it.  But Keith cracks, we pick up one from behind, one from in front, and ride.  I think we were caught on the next lap, but I kept rolling.  Got another group.  And then on the next lap, another.  

Eventually, a split of 15 or so gets off, with me and Jake in it.  And the group is working poorly. But the field seems to be nowhere.  Going up the hill, jake rides a hard tempo on the left with everyone on the right, and two guys are with him, one is a Weather Channel (Chase Goldstein).  When the other Weather Channel (Jayson Jacobs) in the split sees it, he goes after his teammate, taking another rider.  I considered going, but didn't want to bring all those behind, with me, so I sit, hoping to cement the move by blocking those behind.  Big mistake.  I get jumped from behind by five guys--and the one guy I wanted to see go across least of all, Stalin Quintero gets by.

I blew it.  I should have stopped pedaling, drifted back to look for those moves.  We have one of 11 with four   And the field isn't together enough to chase.  But the field nearly brings the move back twice, once on the next lap, and once before the bell.  But they go.  Keith goes to the front periodically to control and condon looks good considering his efforts yesterday.

Jake gets 8th.  He'll have to give the details, but he said a number of guys refused to work.  I thought I was in a decent position, but, like last time I did the sprint, I can't get through the guy in front of me, and finish 5th in the field, 16th on the day.  

Great weekend for Jake. I'm hoping this weekend opened up my legs.

BTW, final insult.  Yoshi is now taking his buds to Konditori.  We might have to rumble.

BTW, scrutinizing the results, it tured out that 9, not 11 were away.  One guy from the field got money.  Always go for the finish.

My first PP race AND first time I've had to pin up before 6am. (It was slightly less terrible than I thought it would be). Once the racing action started, no one could care less about the cold, though frozen water bottles by the 3rd or 4th lap was a bummer. (Viscous gels sans water are not ideal). JP covered most of the action. The break was not a happy family. We had at least 2-3 dudes just sitting on, so everyone was pissed at everyone else and gaps were opening up basically a few times every lap. With three to go, I was on the front for a bit and headed up the climb, just setting a good tempo, I wanted to keep it together until the last lap, but Chase from Weather Channel decided it was a good time to jump me. (Well played). Me and two diminutive figures (terrible drafts) got gaped off by the top of the climb and it seemed like the WC dudes were pushing pretty hard. Fortunately, my new "friends" were game for putting in a big effort and we worked well together for the next lap to the base of the climb where we caught back on. I was pretty blown at the point. The last lap was cordial, at some point Jayson from WC and one/two other guy(s) rolled off the front, I wanted to go, but knew the legs weren't up for it. Came into the sprint with a group of 6 (?). I had decent position (2nd wheel), but was a bit late kicking it into high gear and got boxed in on the left hand side of road. The downhill sprint favors going pretty earlier.

All in all, not a bad "Spring" classic. Cant wait to race at PP in actual spring-link weather!
