Team,

See below for many of the 2016 race dates taking place in NY state. Note that there are some tentative ones in there. Once NYSBRA updates their google calendar it will feed into ours, but they have not done so.

Registration is open for the Grant's Tomb Criterium.

Even if you don't feel up to pinning on a number for this classic criterium course, please consider coming out to watch and cheer on your teammates. Great sight-lines and spectating opportunities.
Grant's Tomb is definitely high on the hit list.  So many good Kissena reports and experiences over the years on this course.

For newer racers: Branchbrook is a good way to get your feet wet.  You can also race twice in one morning which adds up towards the required 10 races to upgrade.  Cat 5 racers would also be racing with cat 4 teammates which is always nice.

Branchbrook is a great place to practice riding in a bunch. Two races back to back, totally doable.
I'm planning on doing Branchbrook on March 5th - as a season opener. Not sure about doing both races that morning.... Anybody else?
Fun race! Enjoy.
@EduardSpektor , im in...who is driving? ahah
let's take the Kissena Sprinter
@EduardSpektor you should definitely do both.  They're usually short and relatively mellow in the 4/5 races meaning you will have legs to do back to back races.

@EduardSpektor  nice MS paint job you have there...the out-of-perspective logos gave it away ahah

@EduardSpektor
In! What's the best way to get there - PATH?
Yes you can take the PATH and you ride a couple miles to  Branchbrook park. Carry the proper lightening on your bike since it's still pretty dark in the morning
I'll put on my calendar
We'll need to catch the 5:45 AM train out of WTC to get there on time (next train is at 6:20 AM).
Does Path go to WTC on the weekend? If it doesn't, we'd need to go out of Christopher St Station.
that the stop off of hudson st?
Thinking about heading out to Branchbrook to check out the course & figure out the transportation situation sometime in the next couple weeks if anyone would care to join
@RileyHoonan sounds like a good idea, heard some parts of the course are a little dodgy. maybe after the all hands ride on the 28th?
@JohnOlsson perfecto
@Scott Kuhlke There is weekend service between WTC and Newark.

So, I actually have been making that commute for many years (work in Newark, but live in BK) & should be able to navigate us around Newark the morning of. I registered for the the CAT 4/5 race #2.

Have never biked around Branchbrook Park....so it'd be good to get familiar with the course. So please count me in @RileyHoonan @JohnOlsson
Guys, don't get too stressed out about that course. For my money the only things that are at all a concern would be the S turns on the backside where you can get squeezed a bit if your in the middle-outside of the group and the one 90 degree corner which is only noticeable because the rest of the course has no 90 degree turns. Its like a tiny bit of crit thrown into a circuit race.

That said, it's a nice place to ride and no harm in getting in some extra practice laps if you have the time and are willing to travel. But don't stress it if you can't.

I'm hoping to get out there for some of the March races. May do 4/5 but also may stick with 45+.
Thanks Jim, good to hear. Definitely still into getting out there if there's time / folks are up for the trek.

I'm hearing rumors of a FBF race on the 6th as well, seems like a good opportunity to get lots of practice in before Grant's Tomb, but it's not confirmed on USAC's site...

FWIW, bikereg.com is sort of the defacto racing calendar in these parts.

Not sure if this is the right place to post, but there is a "volunteer at Kissena races" thread here.

I don't think there is a right place to post this but I'm quite excited so here seems like as good a spot as any....(apologies for size, orientation and face).
Don't think anyone will be there but I decided late last night to head over to Quabbin to race in Mass tomorrow. I'm commuting from upstate NY, but if anyone is going to be there give me a shout.
Wilmington Grand Prix is my one can't-miss crit of the year. IMHO it's the best crit course around (lots of corners and just the right amount elevation change to make it spicy). Also, check out how big the money is and how deep it goes. Pre-reg is open for one more day. Do this race. Do it.

Hey all - I've never raced but want to start this season. Any thoughts on races this season that might be particularly good for n00bs getting their feet wet?
