I am looking to head up to the Battenkill course in the next few weeks to ride the course. Head back the same day, so that means an early departure from this end. Would anybody like to coordinate with me?

Adam, I might be depending on the specifics of timing.
I'm likely going to skip my best fitting race this year - P2A's 20th anniversary is this year and I think I can score a front row callup, and I like the idea of stocking the CX fires in April for my campaign of muddy dominance this fall...

My basic plan will be something similar to this:
23rd/24th Feb or perhaps 9th/10th March. Early pick up, head North, out and back in the same day. Home for dinner (late dinner, or maybe a motorway stop, hopefully with fewer moldy muffins). Am flexible at present but am keen. Have not booked a spot on this race but as of now there are 362 entrants for my category out of a maximum of 500 so I still have time. Would like to head up, assess, then decide.
Anyone else? Holler.

Who's in Battenkill in the cat5 under 35s this year? I got a mail today saying I have a spot (after being on the wait list). Wondering whether they'll be any Kissenas in the same race...

Cat 5 will be doing 3x13 miles. Two climbs (of which one dirt) per round. Dirt section seems pretty short (~1 mile). Any tire recommendations? I was thinking something like conti GP 4-season / 25inch; makes sense?

Tires for Battenkill is a laborious, overwrought source of debate. Personally, I go for a sturdy, puncture resistant 23 that is still light on roll resistance. I like something like the Maxxis Re-fuses. The 4Seasons might be overkill, especially in a 25 (although I actually run those at Floyd).

the tire debate is tired. already. just ride whatever you race on. you'll be fine. if you're not, it isn't because of the tires.
That being said, if you want to join the new fat tire craze this seems like a pretty good deal for 25mm tires.

Agreed with Tito.....there's also a thread on here where there are 1,000 more opinions voiced.
I ran the Vittoria Open Pave Evo CG's - i've got it in a 24, so kinda splitting the difference. Others might think they are overkill for B'kill as well - they are tough, and heavier. And you def add some rolling resistance. Still, I've really enjoyed them.

I raced Battenkill on my superlight alloy clinchers and Vittoria Evo CXs last year. I believe I got JP to approve that beforehand.

Unfortunately I need to be elsewhere that weekend and so I will not be able to race in Cat4 Team race after all. If someone wants to go instead then PM me offline and I'll see what can be done with the promoter.

i'm on the cat 5 wait list. but even if i get off i'm not sure i'll be able to fund this elaborate multi-day excursion. i think it's also during finals period or shortly before. but FYI there's a small chance i'll be going. @Floris i remember you saying you wanted to go.

Good news and bad news....Good news is that I'm jetting off to Zambia and Zimbabwe for a week in mid-April to do some site visits for a work project I'm helping to lead. Bad news is that it's Battenkill weekend, so that puts the kibosh on my plan to be the kissena feed zone master/cheering section/chocolate milk runner/podium photog.....
I'll shoot for Pawling and one or more of the stage races instead......

Joe - no guilt trip needed! If the trip gets cancelled, for any reason, I'll be there. I really was looking forward to supporting the K train during the Saturday race, handing out bottles and generally screaming my lungs out, spending the night, and then doing some of the Fondo the day after. I'll look forward to Pawling, etc..instead. (The work trip is a pretty awesome consolation - I lived/worked in Zambia for a year in the mid-90s and have been wanting to go back ever since.)
