It's a race in teh sense that each rider will get a timing chip and the top 3 finishers for each AG get an award. It's not a USA Cycling race. I find it annoying they interview and caption CAT1, 2 etc. and looks like they use some footage from when it was an actual race, when it's not at all applicable.
Such a bummer, remember doing this race as one of my first few as a CAT5. An awesome course in the backyard of where I grew up. I just can't justify paying a good chunk of change for something I could go do any weekend I'm visiting my parents...for free.

ALL the footage is race based. The entire premise of the video is how cool USAC racers think the race is.
Excellent production value for sure, but hugely misleading.

Read back in this thread; this used to be an amazing early season race. Snow, rain, hard conditions early in April and every racer on the eastern seaboard started prepping for it in January. Ahh I see, it's more of a chocolate milk or beer decision post-ride. Going to use the time to get some experience in on the climbs, take in the scenery, etc.

Just got served up an ad for the new Battenkill happening June 19th (FB/IG, you know me, you really really know me). Tempted, but ultimately I'd rather save my "dad's bike trip" points for something else later in the summer.

It is a really unfortunate and misleading post from "running away" (that's the name of the org that put the race in 2023 etc) -- instead of explaining what actually happened, and how riders can continue to race battenkill. Terrible.

Racing Battenkill (not a fondo ride) is really a special thing. If you can wrangle it, I highly recommend it. Not the same as doing it in April, but still...
