News today of the passing of Mr. I, a true NYC cycling icon and legend, and, of course, father of our very own Charlie Issendorf.
Mr. I is known and influential for many awesome reasons in NYC cycling, running the Mengoni team, and quite close to Kissena, of course.
Currently, can't shake the memory of getting on a break at FBF a few years ago, Mr I. driving the lead pace car, a car that was way too big to be practical for pacing or, frankly, for driving in New York. Mr I. keep it a little closer than usual, a little to the left if the wind was blowing right, but with the most new yorker attitude "I could care less if you guys make it, but anyway..." The break stuck that day, we made it to the line, it was the winning move. All while Mr I. famously smoked a huge cigar out the window.
If you can, remember him a little bit on your next ride or race.
If you personally know Charlie, say hi, he'll appreciate it.
