Did the Kissena route today.  Super windy out there.

Classic gravel - no wind, fresh legs. A good day. Spied a pair of swans flying.

I had high hopes for my first ride out in the wild for some time and was a little let down, but made it work. I tried to go to Shirley Chisolm park on thesthe road bike after mark said they paved a good deal (they did) but half of the loop was closed for construction and it was fairly crowded. It might have been fine, but no loop was discouraging. I ended up spinning down to Rockaway which ended up being the highlight. I tried to hit Floyd on the way home but was turned away by a police officer at the entrance. All things considered, the Rockaway-Belt parkway Roubaix made for a p good loop
I’m pretty much doing a Rockaway , breezy point ride every day , early , it’s super quite , the weekends are pretty busy , so I head for some trails
I saw Dave Summerville ,with his ride ya bike “group” about 6 guys , I found it odd , they did all have masks, they were heading back from breezy
i also spotted hundreds of discarded blackberry boxes on the path , you know its over when they fly Tipp your brand

I actually saw a few of those dudes riding in a group when I was walking on Prospect Park SW the other day. It's not a great look.
Did a double-dose of Skyline Drive today.

Skyline is a Category 3 climb that goes from Oakland, NJ over the Ramapo Ridge to Ringwood, NJ.  the Oakland side is 1.4miles, averages 7% for the first mile and finishes on a 14% grade  The Ringwood side is a bit shallower and a bit shorter, but also finishes on a wall.  It's not a pretty climb, but I love it.   The "skyline" is for the trip back; right before the drop begins, you can see the city which is 25 miles away.

I've been climbing this since I was 15.  Back then, on a 23lbs bike and a 42x21 low gear, it was rough--and we bragged about using bigger gears than that. Descending has always been a blast (once got pulled over for doing 50mph), though today the Ringwood side was chewed up for repaving.

This is one of those days when I felt good and wished I had fast tires on. Time for the summer rubber.

I do miss the group rides. I parked on the NJ side of the GWB and ride the back roads to Rockland Lake. I had a mask that I used when near others, but didn’t need it for most of Ride. Places were you’d see riders were Fort Lee, 9W in NJ and in Nyack, Piermont, and The Market. I plan on trying to get more rides in away from the city.

The North shore of Nassau County has been a good option for me. I really like these roads and there are very few people riding it at the moment.
Just some food for thought, since most of in NYC, is it all good if we go somewhere outside of our area to ride? I have been guilty of doing this already, granted I keep my distance and wear a mask. I'm just wondering y'all's take on it because I feel like it can go either way.
I rode out to Suffern  today.  A bit farther than where our cyclocross race is.

Think I saw @RobertMullen coming back in Fort Lee as I was going out.  Nice to see another Kissena on the road.

I rode out to Haverstraw today via the gravel trail from Nyack Beach.  Some people are walking pretty far.  And with coolers and fishing rods.

Good times.

On the weird side, seems like lots of cyclists are over social distancing.  I decided to head north on 9W in the morning.  There were several groups of 5+ riding together going south.  Many were sloppy pace lines.  I didn't get passed by any groups headed north.  I passed a number of couples as I headed north.

Likewise, there were groups hanging out at The Market in Palisades and at The Runcible Spoon and outside Crankworks Cycles.

Not me today- Might have been Connor (same bike)!

@cpulvidente  You?
I did river rd, then up to bradley/tweed. Fantastic weather today, wind wasn't bad..
Quite a few group rides of 5+ on the roads today, and fewer covered faces than ever. 'Downtown' Piermont was busy and all the usual hangouts were crowded than I'd have expected. I stopped at Strictly to use their spigot out back. Found it really odd they had all the signage about wearing masks, social distancing but it was crowded as ever...
@mugwump it was me. I took an adventure on some roads I've never been on. I think it was 505 or some major road. Need to explore some more off of 9w. Definitely open to some good hilly routes as the weather gets nicer
looking at strava just now; quite a few Kissena's going up 9w today!

@cpulvidente I've been loading people's strava routes into my bolt else I get lost too. Last Monday I used @PatrickGrehan 's route to Harriman park - that was a good long ride.

So many large groups in the afternoon on 9w. Really disappointing to see clear group rides, pace lines and town line sprints. Ended up doing Nyack Beach then came back via Rockland Lake which was busy but at least spacious.
So nice to get out of brooklyn, met a friend at Rye playland , got 50 rolling miles in ,on Westchesters rollers
lots of other cyclist out , mainly pairs , but a few small group

Put a finishing bow on a three week block of training yesterday. Looking forward to a rest week.

Up to Westchester today.  Saw no group larger than two.  And most of those seemed like couples.

Must be a Westchester weekend. I rode up there too to Sprain Ridge Park on Saturday then down aqueduct trail.
Nice little trip yesterday, Bear Mountain was off-limits for motorized vehicles which is great, and my friend Adam and I on the way down enjoyed this taqueria in West Haverstraw along the Hudson with their delicious tacos while feeling the breeze

How crowded was the trail?  Ever since my last trip up the Trailway on a Saturday in April, when it was more crowded than I've ever experienced it and saw 40 cars or so outside the aqueduct trailhead in Tarrytown, I've sworn off Westchester parks on the weekend.

I keep thinking that "one day" I'll try one of those epic rides of 8, 9 or more hours on a bike. Then I get to about the 4 hour mark and say to myself "no fucking way"

I am in awe of that ride.

@mugwump - The So County Trailway had hardly anyone there in Yonkers and part of Westchester. The Aqueduct trail was opposite. A lot of people in the Westchester area (Hastings on the Hudson) but the more south you get in Yonkers, the less and less people I ran into.

I've done a few of those 8-10 hour long rides - the key is to keep riding away from home until the 4-5 hour mark.
This probably belongs on some other thread and doesn’t happen until Monday, but word on the street is that the Mario Cuomo bridge bike path opens Monday. I assume that JP will have suggestions for westChester bike routes for those of us who are less familiar with that side of the Hudson

I've got a few loops in mind that can pretty much start and end in Tarrytown.  I can also get us from NYC there, no problem.

We should do it for the novelty, if nothing else, but there is the group ride problem.
