Mountain Bike Races

I couldn’t find a mountain bike race thread (only one in the Group Ride section) so I hope it’s okay if I start one!

I raced the Lewis Morris Challenge Cat 2 race this morning. It is a part of a series out in Jersey, pretty local to the city (about an hour from BK). The Cat 2 race was two loops of a circuit that had a good mix of single and double track. It wasn’t really technical for a NJ race but it was very hilly. The race ended up being just under 10mi with 1300ft of elevation gain. It definitely suited my skill set (err lack thereof) being a physically challenging course.

The start was hectic as always but guys were seemingly panicking so I was happy to make it out without getting tangled. First lap went by really fast, thought maybe too fast, and I let a small gap open. Thankfully, the opening lap WAS too fast so I caught 2 of the guys coming up a double track hill. I got onto an E2 Value guy’s wheel and sat on it for about 3/4 of the lap. The plan was to sit, let him lead me through the tech parts where I was slower and wait for the final climb/ gravel finale to attack. I ended up putting in a test surge to remind him I was there and he didn’t respond so I led through the final descents/ switchbacks. He was on my wheel when we got into the final 1/4 mile gravel road and I was able to sprint and hold him off for 3rd.

I have really enjoyed racing on the mountain bike this year. I’ve made it a kinda-sorta goal to get some Cat 1 upgrade points so I can upgrade to Cat 3 in cross before this fall! Assuming USAC still allows those cross-over upgrades.
Awesome Rob!
this looks crazy fun https://www.tsepicmtb.com
Just registered to Rocky Point 50 in September. It kind of is my local trail I think I'll do it on a singlespeed as it is kind of flat and twisty. I actually am the first one to register. Podium is still a possibility!!

My son Cedric is also growing a strong interest in Mountain biking. He already has 2 NICA mountain bike races under his belt. There are 3 more races running over the state. I strongly recommend it if you have middle school/ high school kids.
I registered for my first mountain bike off the season/ever.

NYSMTB Series Race 1 Williams Lake Classic Endurance XC on Saturday May 29th. A 28 milers near New Paltz. I did not want to drive 2 hours and do a 7 miles Cat 3 for my first race. I have no goal on this one. Just getting my feet wet, doing plenty of sweet spot and learn of few tricks.

I now own a geared bike, I'd like to keep the whole race under 3 hours.

Anyone wants to join?
I'm interested , ill check it out
I unfortunately don't have race report to post. I missed my first scheduled race last weekend. I torn my meniscus and had to have an injection. Took it easy for a week and resumed some training last week. I am about to register for Belltown Throwdown Cat3 on Junee11th. Cat 3 most likely.

Cedric on the other hand had a busy spring. This weekend is the last race of his NICA serie. It's been tons
 of fun.

Does anybody in the club have any knowledge of how to set up front and rear suspension for specific rider weights our no a good shop that has good MTB knowledge ? Hilltop?
