Cycling Season Goals!

Hi Team,

Let's chat about your 2022 goals. From a cycling perspective, what would you like to achieve during this year?

It can be placing in a race, or a ride, or weekly benchmark, a Prospect Park jersey, some suggested their first century, others upgrading categories, for some of us it will be the cyclocross national championships in Connecticut..
To help get us started, this is a very preliminary Calendar of the next few races, events, and even long rides I plan on doing:
  • Friday March 4 Look Sharp weekly rides start (weather permitting)
  • Sunday March 14 L&C 1st Prospect Park Race
  • Sunday March 27 1st Castelli Prospect Park Race
  • Sunday April 10 The Mix Tape Gravel  (I have one extra entry I can transfer)
  • Sunday April 17 Let's go ride in Massachusetts
  • Sunday May 15 Farmer's Daugther Gravel Grinder
  • July TBD Swiss Italian Alps or French Basque rides
  • Sat August 20 D2R2
  • Sat August 27 Vermont Overland
Then, cyclocross, ending in the goal A event:
  • December 15ish Cyclocross Nationals Masters

I'm looking at this schedule (confirmed entries in bold) for Spring/Summer:

- March 26 Barry-Roubaix (this is in Michigan)

- April 10 might want that Mix Tape transfer if I'm back from MI

- April-August PP races and long rides to fill in the gaps

- April 23 Brinkerhoff Memorial

- April 30 Rasputitsa

- May 15 Farmer’s Daughter

- May 28-30 Killington Stage Race (B goal; winter/spring training plan peaks for this)

- June 25 Gravista (most likely will skip to save $$$s)

- July Capital City RR

- July 16 Holland 100 (if in Michigan)

- August 20 D2R2

- August 27 Vermont Overland

Sep-Dec: My main goal for the year is to upgrade to cat 3 in CX so that I can do the CX Nationals Masters race. I need 8 more points so I will be targeting the NJ CX series 4/5 40+ races. (C goal: get one more season out of my CX bike.)

Long non-traditional rides: Routes I'd like to get group rides to are Eloy's ROAM loop from Garrison, Mt. Washington from Wassaic, and the Shawagunks/Mohonk area.

This will be my first season doing serious racing, so my race goals are pretty simple: I just want to learn as much as possible and to get better and more competing.

I want to get out and race crits and track in NYC more frequently.

This summer I want to do my first mile century (already did 100 kilometers with Kissena!) and get up to Bear Mountain.
Even new rider goals can be specific. The more specific your goals, the more likely you are to achieve them.

Here are some to choose from:

- make the break
- don't get dropped from the break
- top 10 in a KOM/Sprint points
- lead out a teammate
- finish a race with an average power 20% under FTP
- race a TT
- finish a stage race
My turn to enter my goals of the year.

Construction in my kitchen seriously affected my training. It's safe to say that I am only starting my season now. I have been doing a good amount of cross training: weight lifting, single speed mountain biking and even Jiu Jitsu! I think this works for me as I don't believe I am able to follow a training plan for too long. Also, while the gravel races look like tons of fun, I have obligations at the beginning of the year that prevent me from logging enough miles.

So, I will focus on peaking for a late summer mountain bike race and peak again for late fall cross.

Below are my goals for the season (I feel more accountable now that I write them):

- Reach a FTP of 310 watts
- Race Mountain Bike and feel comfortable enough to upgrade to cat 2
- Leg press 750 Lbs ( I crossed that one of the list already)
- Start cross season below 185Lbs, hoping to finish the season below 190. That's a 15 lbs weight loss
- Score at least one point in Cat 4 CX.

Those are the races I intend to do:

- May 29 NYSMTB 1
- June 18 Challenger XC
- June 26 AC Daughtry
- July 31 NYSMTB 3
- August 7 AC Daughtry
- September 12 Rocky Point 50

then Cyclocross:

- peak for Wawayanda (usually around early November)
- do the NECX series
- do well at the LICX series late December hoping they will take place again.
