This cold winter day presents the perfect opportunity to stay inside and start planning your 2024 race calendar.

The shared calendar has been refreshed with all the local 2024 races posted to BikeReg so far (see image below). The calendar will be updated as more races are posted.

Pro Tip - Click on the calendar sidebar widget found on the forum homepage to sync the KCC calendar to your personal Google calendar. 

Please post to the relevant threads for the races you've registered for so we can strategize to take some wins this year!

The coney island race is new.  So you should start one.

Harlem is old and we've been going for years. There is a thread for it.

BTW, has anyone heard of the Velocrit this Sunday?

Hi Racers, I hope you're having a great start to the 2024 racing season. I'm excited to share Velocrit, a new event at the Kissena Velodrome taking place this Sunday May 19th at 2pm.

Velocrit brings road racing to the Velodrome for the first time in NYC. This style of road racing on a velodrome has had a lot of success at similar velodromes with shallow banking. It's proven to be action packed and a blast to race and spectate.

We'll be racing tournament style format with qualifying heats, a last chance qualifier, then a 30 minute final with a start grid based on qualifying.

We know this is a new style of racing for NYC racers, it's different and yep it means coasting and braking on the track… that said we can share that this is super safe, fast and a ton of fun. They'll be music and live commenting also!

The goal with Velocrit is to host races every other Wednesday beginning in June in lieu of no Floyd Bennett Feld racing this year. That'll make Velocrit the only weekly road racing in NYC. 

Join us for the first Velocrit on Sunday, we hope to see you out there at the Track of Dreams!

I"ve only done training sessions on road bikes on a velodrome.

All the same, I have raced large, mass-start races on the track.  Large is usually 10-15, but I think I've done as big as 19 racers, though that was nationals.  

I don't know.  But I can see where it's a concern.

I'll reserve judgement, but I'm somewhat concerned. But hey, bike racing in NYC!

I'm usually in office on Wed but might be able to at least check it out as a spectator if I can make it back home in time.

Hi kissenistas, Chad Shackelford from RoR is putting together an off road invitational Sunday June 23rd: The Cross Bay Roubaix.

It uses the off road bits between FBF & Marine Park... and just seems like a lot of fun.

Don't share outside the club, this is for kissena members only.

So far, Big Hit, RoR, Kissena, King Kog, KruisCX, and TBD have been invited.

So I took a minute to cruise over to the velodrome yesterday around 230p, thinking either bikereg was borked and/or day of racers may have shown up and I could catch a few laps of racing. Looks like they must have cancelled last minute as JP Rorech and someone from Veselka were there doing a few laps, but nobody else was around. I was in cargo shorts and a tshirt (yard work), but did a few laps myself on the old Schwinn.

Hope they try again.

I might sign up last minute (only two hours for reg to close) but I am currently a no for Grant's and a yes and planning on Sunday's RoR Roubaix

Did a recon of the cross bay Roubaix. The course is a mix of loose sandy stuff, gravel, and even beach sand. You don’t need much tread, but the bigger the tire and the lower the pressure the better. 

The Strava sections are varied. Some are hard rock gravel trails up and down over Shirley Chisholm park. Some are cutting through trails that are barely trails, but the final two trails are the killers. They are short and over the beach. It is possible to loose oodles of time on those starva segments. Be ready to dismount and run the loose parts and ride the tighter parts

This was so much awesome stupid fun. 
  • @David Yang and myself representing kissena among a buncha NYC/NJ cyclists nuts that showed up for this
  • I started to write a crazy detailed report but...
  • Basically this was amazing fun
  • We met old friends, we made new friends
  • I lead segment 1 for a while 
  • full on cyclocross but lemans start WTF is even a heart rate
  • I flatted in segment 1
  • I exited segment 1 dead last after 2 co2 and a non working tube
  • Dave to the rescue 
  • We got lost, we found our way
  • I totally skipped a full segment
  • It was crazy hot
  • It was the best Sunday
  • SO MUCH STUPID FUN
  • Could we do this every weekend?

I had looked at the preview Patrick had done , was slightly worried that it was going over some areas that you weren’t really supposed to access

the full route were open and accessible trails — all of it above board and legal.

Only 5 segments counted toward your time, everyone rode super chill/social between the segments, even those were mostly bike paths.

The segments were where we saw the least people. There was a segment than went thru plumb beach which turned out to be a very popular beach, so it was removed day of, we didn’t ride plump.

They were a few crashes, and mechanicals, no one was hurt, It all felt super safe.

Everything Eloy said, it was a ton of fun, very much in the spirit of punk DIY. Also thank goodness for cycling and public space and parks advocates so we have these amazing places to ride in.

Highlight for me was hanging with Eloy and the community and riding with some of the best cross racers in the area (for like 5 seconds as they were flying by). Lowlight was putting in a substantial dent to my new rear wheel rim. I must have done it on the first section with the chunky rocks.

Starts at the GWB and goes to Beacon (55ish miles) with the goal to get there by Sunset, it'll start 2 or 3 hours (tbd tba) before sunset.
