Park Slope Civic Council: Community Day of Cycling on May 31, 2025 - KCC Representation

Hi all, Eloy has been in communication with the Park Slope Civic Council as they plan for a day to educate and guide neighbors and city residents about cycling in and around Prospect Park. Date is scheduled for Saturday May 31st, 2025 (rain date Sunday).

KCC being the local club sponsoring most of the Prospect Park races, we are collaborating on a plan to participate in a few ways so will need a club volunteers throughout the day. Please save the date for Saturday afternoon of May 31st.
  • Have a table at the event to engage with community and help answer questions.
  • Provide printouts of cycling info including our Prospect Park Bicycle Riding Protocol and a race schedule calendar.
  • Host guided group rides throughout the day around the park including the bike lane on the west side to highlight cycling infrastructure beyond the park itself.
Current format and schedule for guided group rides will be:
  • 15 people per ride (planning on an EventBrite signup sheet).
  • 2 laps around the park with one lap on the bike path on the west side.
  • Tentatively set for 2p, 3p, 4p
  • Expecting the 2 laps will take approx 45mins each and to keep things easy and conversational.
Some additional context outside of our participation:
  • BikeNYC to host a "Rules of the Road 101" on Zoom the night before.
  • BikeNYC to host "learn to ride" for kids.
  • Community partners include Prospect Park Alliance, NYCC, 78th Precinct, Good Neighbors of Park Slope.
  • Possible DOT participation.
  • E-bike and rider education are main focus subjects.

Once plans are firmed up we'll start a volunteer list! Please save the date and join even for a little bit - it would be great to have a strong KCC presence there as a friendly face for the racing community.
Thanks, Dave!
Hey all, the Community Day of Cycling event is official!

https://www.prospectpark.org/event/community-day-of-cycling-in-prospect-park/

Please save the date to volunteer (will post up a sign up sheet soon):
  • Saturday May 31st
  • 2-5PM
  • Bartel-Pritchard Square entrance (where most people exit after finishing a park race)

Looking for friendly KCC faces to help on below:
  • Ride leaders for casual laps (i.e. gentle cruising) around the park and along the west side bike path.
  • Staff the KCC table to hand out resources and guides

Looking to make an afternoon of it - you know if I'm involved there will be some opportunity for delicious foods. Also a rare opportunity for buds to hang out in civilian outfits!
I should be able to attend , Have to look for my friendly face first

Hey folks, here's the volunteer sign up sheet - please consider lending a hand for a few hours in the afternoon!

Dear Bike Events Participants,

We’ve been closely monitoring the weather forecast for Saturday and are considering moving the event to our rain date: Sunday, June 1st, due to the possibility of inclement weather.

If the event is moved, the time will remain the same (2:00–5:00 PM), but the location will change to Grand Army Plaza.

Since NYC spring weather is notoriously unpredictable, we plan to make a final decision by Friday early afternoon. Fingers crossed for good weather and we can keep the original date!

Please reply to this email and let us know if you are available on Sunday, so that we can prepare for changing the day if need be. We really hope you can attend either way!

Thank you for your flexibility and continued support.

Warm regards,

Donna Stein, Park Slope Civic Council

Deborah Kirschner, Prospect Park Alliance

Super fun afternoon hang at the park ,I’d like to thank Eloy for being or guy with the prospect park alliance ,it’s clear he has built strong relationships there that clearly benefit the club immensely.
Also we signed up a couple of kids to life time contracts , we told them we can’t offer the same financial package as Visma , but we have nicer kit
Very chill fun day, loved hanging out with everyone, playing music and KCC friends like Brian M and Kasia randomly running into us! Wish I could have stuck around for the end but reminds me we should do a park picnic when the weather actually gets warmer!
Thank you all for coming out and for your support. It was way more fun than I expected, and definitely goes a long way with the Prospect Park Alliance, and to gain the good will of all the communities involved.
It is really awesome to hear about the quality of the relationships you guys (looking at you @Eloy!) have built with the PPA. Just fantastic.
