Doctor/Physio/Massage/Acupuncture/etc Recommendations

Hello,

I'll start this thread for all fields of healthcare referrals. But right now, I need a good chiropractor and/or massage therapist. Maybe an orthopeditist. STAT. (get it?) Any recommendations?

thanks in advance.
they are slightly out of your neck of the woods - but I really like Stamford Health Care Associates.

You start with stretching, then see a massage therapist, and then get adjusted.
They did wonders for me over the past year. Everyone is very nice\professional\caring\etc, and most importantly, they are great at what they do.
Leslie in Park Slope is fantastic:

If you ask nicely she'll give you an 'athlete's discount'. I think it is $10 off her normal price.
Marc, this may be off-base for what you're looking for but might help someone else given the frequency of these injuries to cyclists.

Dr. Ramesh Gidumal @ NYU Langone - Orthopedic Surgeon w/ Sports Medicine experience.

He did a great job reassembling the four pieces of my clavicle in a way that quickly got me back on the bike and has also checked out a separated shoulder and an elbow that likes to dislocate.

Here's his profile: http://www.med.nyu.edu/biosketch/gidumr01
Mark, for chiropractors, I've found Cooper Chiropractic & Wellness Center to be quite helpful.

I had a good chiropracting experience with Chris Rose in Bogota, NJ.
Dr. Andrew Pearle (Sports Medicine Orthopedist) at the Hospital for Special Surgery did a fine job on my collarbone a couple of years ago. I don't know if it was just the nature of my fracture, but I was able to have all the hardware removed last year which was really nice (and will make any future fratures a little less complicated than they would be if the steel was still in there).

I really liked his office staff. And the HSS assisting surgeons, anesthesiology docs, nurses and everyone were first rate.

Any recommendations for Ear Nose & Throat docs?

A chronic infection has setup camp in my sinuses and I need some expert assistance in getting rid of this nuisance.
I went to NY Eye and Ear infirmary last year and had Dr. Branovan. I liked him a lot. Everything went smoothly, which is the opposite of my friend's experience with a doctor from elsewhere (Dr. Kwak, no kidding) who just performed the surgery at NYE&E.

I still have some immunity-based health issues, but it seems that most of the deeply embedded sinus infections don't incubate as long.
Looking for some recommendations as my insurance lists hundreds in the area and I don't know where to start.

I live in Williamsburg and can't even commute-ride for a while, so train convenience would be good.

Thanks, y'all
I highly recommend: Stuart Yeh at New York Physical Therapy Associates. The office is in Manhattan at 19 west 21st Street (Suite 404). It's between 5th and 6th Avenues. So you could take the L train to the F to 23rd Street to get there. 212-366-4450. https://ptany.com/staff/stuart-yeh-pt/
Some years ago I used Jerry Desmond who worked for Recovery Physical Therapy

First time I actually got appts with Jerry, who was the top dog in the place and he was quite good
Next time I worked with random other people in the place and just went with the flow

This is not a completely whole-hearted recommendation, but maybe better than a random choice from the phone book.
Anybody have a good GP they can recommend in BKYN for me?

Hey guys,

Couldn't find another thread on this so started a new one. Can anyone recommend a good sports masseur out there? One who knows their way around a cyclist would be great. I don't know the going rate for them here - in rural England (!) I could get a 30mins massage from a decent one for about $40 - probably more here I'm guessing.

Also, on a more embarrassing note, has anyone ever suffered from weird rashes on their legs? And preferably know a good treatment for them? I am a newcomer to the Krazy world of American pharmaceuticals, so don't know of any good treatment.
They are probably induced by sweat and they are a real itchy mofo. Usually I get them on the back of my knees / top of calf (prob a couple of times a season), but have one which is creeping down my thigh (around IT band). I have been using Savlon, a mild over-the-counter antiseptic cream, but it hasn't stopped its relentless swarm-like progress. A doctor once prescribed cortisone cream for them, which did the trick, but I am wary (perhaps too wary) of going down that route as I have a championship coming up, and knowing my luck, I'll get chosen for the drugs test and wouldn't have a therapeutic use certificate (And Lance has all the best lawyers tied up at the mo, so I'd be stuck). Rash = shouldn't have a massage, so you can see why they are linked...
Anyway, on visualizing that thought of my sweaty leg rashes, I wish you all a happy July 4th. Kieran
Kieran,

I used to use Leslie Denunzio lesliemassage@mac.com who was very good.

Her husband/boyfriend "Rick the Prick" was such a jerk on the bike I decided to boycott, but that shouldn't stop you from availing yourself.  She's a marathoner who specializes in cyclists.

As for the rash:

"try clotrimazole cream - it will not trigger a drug test and if this is a yeast infection caused by the heat and sweat being trapped it'll do the trick. So will trying to keep very dry, showering right after exertion, keeping the area open to air."

kieranleahy - get the TUE then :)

this site says you should apply 30 days ahead of time - when is your championship ?

Thanks for the tips Jules. Not sure I like the sound of helping to bankroll a prick, but I will check her out.

Makes sense it could be a yeast infection - mmmm, basically thrush on my leg then! (tho not the first time I've been called a giant pussy tbh, ha).

Cheers Josh - alas my event is just under a month away now, so I don't think I'd get it in time.
I think I saw you and another one of our guys at the track yesterday btw - I was there doing some training before the track league - I would have stayed for the racing itself but had evening plans (plus was already in a world of pain from my efforts and the heat). I saw two Kissena jerseys and I heard someone shout 'go Josh' during the first race, so I assume it was you! I would have come over and said hi, but I spotted you both just before racing started and didn't want to disturb your prep. I left just after watching the first couple of races. How did the evening go?
Just to pass on and for anyone searching the forum in future, as I couldn't get a appt with Leslie D for ages, I had an appt yesterday with Nicole at Body Balance Massage Therapy @681 Lexington, 718 683-1905 (also more convenient as I work in Manhattan). She was highly recommended on yelp.

She was very good and thorough - seems to have had quite a bit of experience with cyclists and was responsive to what you wanted done. She properly went to town on my IT bands and hip flexors ("if you're a bit bruised in the morning, it's probably cause I've been using my knuckles", ow) as they were rock solid. Legs are feeling good today though, surely a sign of a good massage!
Liz is having knee/lower leg pain. It's sometimes just her knee, but now it's making it impossible for her to walk.

Any good doctor recommendation?

@yacks Sorry to hear... Is it an old injury?

www.ZocDoc.com
Its not me...it sounds like its Ragot's wife.  I do have some tendonitis right now.  I had a GURU dynamic fit over the weekend to address it. Seems I was too low and too far forward...they kicked the seat up and back quite a bit. My cycling shoes were addressed as well...they are shot.  So I bought another pair of the heat moldable Shimano's.  Last pair is at least 5 years old.  My hammy's are not happy.  I can only spin right now and work on stretching and rehabing the knee.  Probably a month away from putting real stress on the leg.  So Grants Tomb is likely out.  My knee is 100 percent my fault.  Too many miles, too much intensity not enough stretching, rest or hydration.  I'm old now...and shit happens when you are old.  Yacks
Darren Friedman, a good doc who dealt with some of my fun osteo-issues including my crashes on hips, knees and ribs.

@Yacks @Ragot I need glasses!
That sucks about knees—a curse on those 1600 Watt 1 legged intervals!
I have attached the pdf file of my fit....they forgot to send me my existing  #'s.  I will get that and compare before and afters...

@eric not sure if you still need a doctor, but I go to Dr. Robert Marx at Hospital for Special Surgery. He operated on my knee 4-5 years ago when I tore my ACL, MCL and meniscus skiing. He's really good physician / surgeon. A little dry bedside manner though.

Thanks for all the recs everyone.

The fancy docs aren't on my insurance, so Liz went local and is going to PT now.

PT is a good way to go. Fancy docs only want to cut or push pills. PT requires more patience, however. Give Liz our best wishes. And do NOT tell her 'no pain no gain'.
