You mean a cycling team sponsored by a inhaled steroid? Yep, that is awesome. At branchbrook there was a guy from that team in the Master's race. I asked him whether it was intentional fart joke to have "Inhalation Aerosol" written across his butt.

It's Bobby Lea's team. It's also chock full of track racers.  Not quite as bad as Amgen sponsoring a masters team.

Anyone have a contact at REI?
They sell bikes and I seem to remember seeing them as sponsors on charity rides.

I've got a contact at Bonk Breaker that I'm pursuing.

What's the amount for title and other sponsorship levels? Benefits, etc? Is there a sponsorship sheet that can be sent to someone to gauge interest?

Aside from personal connections, someone should approach the Harlem Community Development Corp (which was a sponsor last year) for leads to companies in the neighborhood that might want to contribute. Also, don't forget the big box retailers that are in the East River Plaza - Costco, Target, Marshalls, Best Buy, Bob's Furniture, Old Navy, etc. Target has a large community development program at the corporate level and might be a source of sponsorship / funding.

My idea for funding is based on one I heard (or thought of, I honestly can't remember which) for the Philly race that was going to be cancelled. Namely Lance Armstrong should put up the money for the Philly race.

Similarly, I think George Hincapie should pony up the bucks for this race. I mean, didn't the dude race for Kissena? Isn't Charlie friends with George? Or at least former teammates?

I don't want to turn this into the doping thread, but this would be a very real and very good way to give back to the sport that they took so much from.

And because Ragot thinks I don't speak up enough...

Also, if Cat 2s don't get to race at least 60 minutes, then I'll be upset. Honestly, if the race wants to be of the quality of even an average midwest crit, a Pro 1/2 race has to be 60 minutes long. If they want to step up to the quality of a Tour of America's Dairyland (or Superweek, from days of yore) race, a Pro 1/2 crit should be 90 minutes long.

Anything less than that, and you've got a recipe for crashes upon crashes upon crashes. A proper crit has to be selective and the way help ensure a flat four corner, one turning direction only crit is selective and safe, is that you increase the distances to the point where not everyone has the juice to sprint at the end.

In years past, John Eustice's love affair with "pro cycling" ensured that amateur category racing at Harlem suffered. 28 minutes. That's how long the cat 2/3 race was two years ago. JP (especially) and I (less especially) tried like hell to get away. But hell 28 minutes on a flat four corner crit? No way in hell.

Wait, you want truth in advertising on bike race names? Lets not tell him about "Tour of New York" which is a standard PP circuit race.

Suh-weet. Pro 1/2 crit. 35 miles. For reals? Nice. Finally. I'm suddenly excited about this race that always disappointed me before.

Pretty good timing for me and the other Tour of America's Dairyland-ers...get in our last east coast crit before we are going to get our heads bashed-in in Wisconsin.

As far as I know, there is no Bikereg.com confirmation/check. You can register for whatever category you want. The check happens at registration when they look at your license. Just be sure you are going to get your upgrade in time for the event.

Marc is correct. It does make me sad whenever I have to turn some sad CRCA Cat 5 away at registration because they don't understand they can't just self upgrade because BikeReg let them register for a Cat4 race.

Remember that when you upgrade either get your sticker from Ragot, or print an Authorization to Ride from the USACycling website before you try to show up at your newly upgrade race.

ruh roh. there's no cat 5.  mayhap one of your smarties has a scheme whereby i can be a 4 in time to register for this june 16 race.  i need 4 more races; i'm doing one this sunday in FBF.  then 3 more.  hmmm...rockleigh this thurs?

FBF this Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday (with Horace burrowes) then prospect park race on June 8. boom! Cat 4 in two weekends.
