Who's in for this?

I figure I am doing this one, as well as the PP race on Sunday. Lets discuss how we want to handle this race. Looks at this point like the weather is mildly windy with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Should be a classic FBF race.

Rain + thunderstorms + dirt + potholes?

i'm in. wondering if there is a lot of water on the tarmac though. where do we check to see if its cancelled or not in the am?

I made a brief appearance on my way out to Coney Island for a day of Nathan's and nearly puking up Nathan's.

The 5's had a 4 man break that survived till the end. Jeff K came in with the field.

In the 4's it came down to a field sprint. Carl took 3rd and McKay 7th(?). Looked like a a tough race with a lot of attacking.

While the 1/2/3's were racing I was spinning around in some devilish contraption. Hurl.

There were 200 or so CRCA / L-Raphael.com - Leopard Cycles.com p/b Jordan Coaching p/b Snugglepuss Fancypants, so their MO was to out-Kissena Kissena. They put a guy in every move. Or more accurately threw a million solo attacks out. So Patrick or I would just let them hang out there and ride tempo for 1/2 a lap, until we reeled them in enough for a Leopard guy to attempt to "bridge" to his guy, thus dragging the rest of the field with him, the third Leopard would attack solo and start the cycle all over again. it was amusing to watch them waste guys like that.

Wojciech and McKay sat in reserves for the last part of the race while Patrick and I patrolled the front for the majority of the race. Just before the last lap Wojciech lit it up with a blistering attack that dragged one guy with him and was motoring along just far enough ahead that the field was out of reach but could have stayed away. The field was too hungry and swallowed up his break a little before the final turn, where Patrick had an awesome counterattack that forced the field to surge and string it out making for a safer finish. I attempted to lead out Mckay, and ended up getting boxed in just before the final turn and not having the ability to move him up into the prime position he needed.

Sounds like the tireless Reiners and Grehan in full effect!

On a side note, Floyd Tuesday night sprint finish scenario. It might just be me, but I noticed there's a bit of "combine" action going on. A small lead-out train of United, Major Taylor and Co. stringing it out. If it comes down to a sprint finish we could challenge that coming out of the hedges section. I'd be glad to work for Mike and McKay— two more before us would give us a heck of an advantage. Or if someone has another idea I'm open.

it was a remarkably beautiful day for a race, i just want to point that out. the course was great, not so much dust and grit. i only had to dig out a very small amount from my ear tubes. (other days it seems like i could use a tiny vacuum cleaner). I found some self control finally and sat in the bunch as much as possible. i went up to the front to do a little work and really warm up, and sure enough there was Dan grinding away. he dismissed me forthwith and told me to get my ass back in the pack, so i did. so, i didnt see anything of what happened up front during the race. at 3 laps to go, he found me and discussed a leadout. it went pretty smoothly, and i have to say it is thrilling to have the ride up to the front from your own team. Dan is the Man! unfortunately, i was behind a slow wheel at the last corner, about 4 wheels back, and the inside train blew by on the right, and a Major Taylor monster went around the outside on the left. effectively, i went at about 75 yards rather than at 150 or the 200 from the corner. I will also say that having Dan and Patrick do the work to get me up front, and then failing to deliver for them, feels pretty disappointing. I am wondering if i can return the favor by pulling someone off the front with me for a break, and then letting them go ahead, sort of like a slingshot, and softpedaling behind. does that ever work?
