In his August 11th post in the "Transfers" thread of the Kissena Cycling Club forum, WilliamDC erroneously stated that JP Partland will be transferring to the CRCA-Jonathan Adler bicycle racing team for the 2012 racing season. The rider in question is Marc Bertucco.

I have heard that Marc B. was transferring to United, having struck a deal under which he will learn to sprint with his future team mates during the winter and in return will teach them to race crits. No details have emerged yet about Marc having to cut his ponytail and/or shave his legs.
Anyway, back from ToC, I can attest to the fact that John M. is a track cat. 1 racer. No words yet about where he'll be racing next year.

No, that's not true Jeff. John did train with Henderson, beasted him and then started training with a young Stuart O'Grady. I did a little bit of web searching and found out some stuff.
John's move to Melbourne, Australia to link up with a young but talented O'Grady was not without hardship however. At first, failing to make a living, as a Cat1 track licence from NZ is not recognised in Australia, he was forced to do short stints as farrier, PC repair specialist and then as a sound engineer in a karaoke bar. Things were in the balance for a while, so John decided that to support himself during his early and unestablished Australian track career that he would embark upon a pop music stint, releasing his first single titled 'Late night at the velodrome' in 1992. This track met with limited initial success, reaching 37 in the Australian charts, however, his follow up single, 'Kiwi spinning Mavics' reached a wider audience, attaining a top 10 place in the charts for 9 weeks in early 1993. Bolstered by the success of his second single, and with his debut album mostly recorded, John then went on tour, visiting venues in Thailand, Papua New Guinea and Malaysia among other destinations. John's music, an amalgamation of country western rythym and electro pop beats, found a cult following in South East Asia. Some experts claim that the reason was his easy listening tempo mixed with inspirational and basic lyrics, two characteristics of his music which resonated with the South East Asian audience.
Upon return from touring, John became disillusioned with the music industry and his second album 'Which way on the track?' halted production midway through completion, following the recording of only 3 songs. Reports are fuzzy as to John's whereabouts and actions over the next 8 months, late 1993-1994. John is reported to have embarked upon an ill fated modelling career, using his minor celebrity status in the Philippines to acquire some small contracts with a national watch manufacturer. However, this initial success was short lived and before the end of 1994 John was back in Melbourne.
After subsequent stints as a cycle courier John is reported to have entered and Alley Cat race in early 1995, which he won. Upon the advice of a senior courier named 'RedLightGo' John was tempted to return to the track. In early 1995, after only a few sparse visits to the Melbourne velodrome, John happened to run into a young O'Grady. Friendship was immediately struck and the two trained and rode together over the subsequent years until John's web design business, a side project he had undertaken along with tennis lessons and opera singing training, took off. John's later move to New York, USA, ended a solid training partnership with O'Grady, although it is rumoured that the two still communicate via Twitter and Facebook. John is reported to be the godfather of O'Grady's second child, Amelia.

I believe in 1993 John also had a walk-on role on Neighbors the long running Australian soap opera, and sang back up vocals on Kylie Minogue eponymous album on the bonus track only released in the Japanese version "Love is Waiting". It was never released beyond that version, which goes on eBay now for approximately $45 AUD because of its rarity.

Am I the only one feeling there is some kind of malaise (I am like Hercule Poirot, I love to use French words when I try to speak or write in English) out there with so many transfers, new teams appearing, some disappearing, etc.? Is it my imagination or is it different during this inter-season period?

I heard it through the grapevine: Stephane will leave the UN in three months and in 2012, he will be racing in France for US Pégomas cyclisme, a French club in Pegomas, near Cannes/Nice and probably in Italy, where there are many races for masters.
The good news for the club is that when I'm in my house in Spéracèdes, near Grasse, my door will be open to my former team mates willing to come to ride with me to discover the region (Alpes maritimes). From my house, one can see the Massif du Tanneron, hills the riders often climb during the penultimate stage of Paris-Nice. (Other close places also used during that race, Col de Vence and climb to Fayence, where in 2009 Luis León Sanchez attacked and Contador was dropped). Here are the roads to Fayence :

Well, I suppose I need to add a stop in my European vacation. Perhaps I start it in Paris or Frankfurt now and make my way south on the way to Italy and then Croatia.
