@vollbach - I rent from Hertz at La Guardia. The ford focus I rented last Sunday, pre-paid with insurance, I paid $48.  24 hours, unlimited mileage rental. Gas is on you though.

The pic of the "table top" above is notable in that taking it was NEVER the fastest option, although lots of scrub-zone back-markers enjoyed catching air on it and inspiring the crowd to cheer.

Okay, for those of us not "rowing" in a club of one, just a reminder that apparently you need your bikereg receipt to access the athlete parking. Jules, take that LP-leaking-death trap to Kinkos and get yourself access to a printer.

And a reminder to all cyclocross fans, Jules and Jeff are teaming up for a Madison style cross race tonight. Not sure how it works frankly, but I think you do a lap, swing into the pit, then tag your it.

Hopefully those guys will use this as an opportunity to get in some good hot laps, learn the tricky bits, but not tire themselves out for the weekend's races. I'm going to be counting on you Jeff to take me around the course with wisdom tomorrow in the fuh-early a.m., 'kay?

^What a blast. Total annihilation on lap 1; picture the opening to Saving Private Ryan - even saw some guy roll his front tub and endo.

Ok, for those of you not following dirtwire, here is the lowdown on the course:

Three - yes Sweet Baby JPow in a Rapha Skinsuit Hopping the Barriers - THREE mother-loving flyovers, a spiral staircase, a regular staircase, barriers, off camber turns galore, a fucking jump ramp, and #becauseinsantiy a Cinnabon of Deth.

^so yeah, pretty much the most insane, awesome sphincter tightening course ever to see the light of day.

Never try or tried to be better or more awesome or more bad ass than
another venue.

(I won that battle already quite frankly at supercross in 2008. )

Its actually rather silly to chase or emulate others in racing, business,
or life for that matter. I've always just tried to do the best I can at
any venue, and do the best I can for our emerging scene.

You know what I did today? Raced some cross in the morning. Rode around with my little dude. Then cheered for my buddies, hung out in a beautiful park, chit-chatting with my bros and ladybros, then watched some of the world's best crossers do their thing.

And then he went and podiumed the next day. Congrats Marc on a well deserved 3rd. 

Finally home with a nice glass of scotch, glowing with stoke from Holy Week. Didn't race today but got some good shots of Whitey, Patrick G and Jeff A... and of course Hotlist on his history making trip to the podium.

...by the way, is it not true that a) Anthony Clark looks like a freaking maniac when he races and b) Hotlist has a little AC mojo going on with the hair...?

There's so much to say about the weekend, but right now I'm actually thinking about all the family fun Providence was this year.

So in addition to the now, rather standard "kids race," there were other great things going on for the kiddies.

Peter loved a "bouncy castle" obstacle course. In addition to the fun he had on course, he learned the concept of waiting in line. Which, I don't know, makes me both proud and sad. Oh boy, what this kid has ahead of him in life.

The obstacle course was set up and run by the local YMCA and they were there with an arts and crafts table, huge bubble wands, hoola hoops, and other games and adventures. If you looked at me at the right time, you might have seen me jamming to a hip-hop remix version of "5 Little Monkeys, Jumping on the Bed" blasting out of some serious speakers.

And just over the hill, there was a full-on playground. Next to the playground there is a carousel. And "train rides around a loop of the park. Also, on the way out Sarah and I noticed these huge Swan paddle boats with neon lights. And somewhere near there was a carniverous plant show. And don't forget the zoo.

Back at the race site there were a lot of eating options. All a bit pricey, but folks seemed to be happy with the eats. Fancy taco truck, fancy grilled cheese truck, wood fired oven pizza place, fancy ice cream truck, fancy pretzel bread sandwich truck, smoothie/coffee dude. Beer garden that is huge, had plenty of seating including underneath tents which was perfect when the rains came on Saturday, and overlooked the exciting roller coaster section of the course.

Anyway, Sarah, Peter, Penny and I had a great weekend. Saturday was especially fun because so many KCCs were there. Nice to chillax with everyone telling stories, admiring engagement rings, flipping kids upside down as reward for counting in diff't languages. Sunday was a little quiet, most KCC made quick exits to get back home to get ready for the week ahead. But still very nice.
