If it a problem calf you've had for a year, it's no longer a calf, its a problem heifer, and yes you should have it checked out.

You'er probably right. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
Speaking of heifer's it seems that the problem with my patellar tendon goes back to my birth! Mine angle out, and that's the root source of the problem. It will take a few more months of vigilant slow rebuilding before I'm back to normal. And then, like Dan said, I need to be very aware of the pain I'm inducing, and stop when it's the wrong kind. Dan's advice is very important to heed. I'd like to add that the sucky thing about getting older is that I can't get away with ignoring pain anymore. It's now been 5 months with barely any riding, other than short commutes, and just recently I started easy indoor trainer spins. It's hard being patient, when I recall how strong I once was and should be. Every day I see a mountain, and long to be back on top of it.
Dan and Jules, I hope you guys get better soon. And I hope that when I'm next in town that we can all go for a healthy spin around the park or upstate.
I am happy to take credit, but it was Patrick who gave that patricular testimony about his bursitis. I've had similar things and I have to be careful myself to not aggravate some of my more fun injuries.

the key things:
Don't ignore it
Get a diagnosis for pain that is recurrent and non-muscular.
Do you PT - it will make you better (however much it sucks)
Ice is your friend - especially in a glass of single malt (but also in the form of a bag of frozen peas for icing injuries).

Hey,
I friend just did their collarbone skiing - anyone have surgeons they'd recommend?
I know that John, Thierry & Jeff C have some unfortunate experience with this. Anyone love their doc enough to recommend?

Highly recommended

So this happened..

I was involved in a crash on a Thursday at Floyd almost a month ago. The guy in front of me ran his front wheel to the rear wheel of the guy in front of him. He goes down, I had no where to go but over my handlebar with my arm outstretched. My right arm took the full impact of the fall and snaps my radius bone.

Immediately i knew my arm was messed up. I got up and my right arm was on fire. Just tremendous pain. Horace drives over and i told him i need an ambulance. It took 30 mins for one to arrive. Ugh. I went to Coney Island where my fear was confirmed.

Two weeks later I went for surgery a HSS and lo and behold, they installed a bike chain to fix me.. lol.

I'm on therapy now to get my hand and fingers functioning again. Also not a scratch on my bike nor on my carbon wheels. And the right glove i had on had no tears either.

that is incredible, Philip, please take good care, my best wishes for a quick and easy recovery.
Get well my friend
Aw Phil! That sucks. On the bright side you get a badge...?
The break is awful.  The internal chain is awesome.
that sucks. Get better and summer is the worst time for wearing a cast/splint.
That really sucks. Hope your recovery goes well and you can enjoy the summer break from training
At least it's not another x-ray of a broken leg with your junk all hanging out.
That's some hardware.  Heal up, Phil.
Now you are truly made of steel. Heal up my friend.
Thank you all. There's no pain now but rehab is tough. The worst is behind me now tho.
Glad you're going to be alright!

Get better Phil! It's not the same racing without you at floyd
I'm on a course of penicillin, which ends tomorrow.

I've been looking for the effects of antibiotics on performance.  So far, I've found very little.  The best is the link below

https://runnersconnect.net/running-injury-prevention/antibiotics-and-running-performance/

effects can be:
increased sensitivity to sun and dehydration
slower pace
dizziness and stomach upset
tendon rupture (just runners, and Fluoroquinolones)
Does anyone have recs for a good back specialist, chiropractor, or massage place? It's not clear that this is definitely a bike-related thing but it's been bothering me for a while. Thanks!

I'm a huge fan of Jes. She works primarily with professional dancers.

Marc A. Bochner is a cyclist/runner and a great chiropractor..., been a few years since I last saw him, but he was very good.

Learned a thing or two about concussions from the doctor this week after getting hit by a car on Tuesday.

Thanks to POC and more than a little luck, my head's still in one piece, although the Lemond has seen better days. Time to buy a new helmet.
Oh shit! I'm glad you're not any worse.
Good Lord!  I'm glad you're okay. Stay safe everyone!
Also, can you tell us how it happened?

Yes! Wearing a helmet saves lives. I'm glad that you are OK Riley!
@JillWhite embarrassingly, this was 100% my fault, I rushed through an intersection on Vanderbilt that I thought was clear and the car caught the rear of the bike from the side. In a nutshell, it could've been easily prevented by riding more cautiously.
Riley, it's just a good reminder for everyone to be extra cautious.  I'm sorry that it happened to you.  Be safe!
OMG so glad you are ok.
