Come out and race. If you want to learn how to position yourself in a fast moving pack - this is the race- 27mph average speed for the P123 until I flatted with 2.5 to go. There were times we were riding with a tailwind and I saw 37 mph on my computer. Fun times! 

In terms of a report: Vlad, Rene, Hubbard and myself raced the p123. There were some strong men out including a full mengoni squad. The race was fast and furious but we always had someone close to the front. Vlad managed to mark the best looking move of the day. Hubbard Rene and I also took turns covering the front and off the front. Rene looked agressive and strong but flatted a turn before I did. 

With 50% of our starters flatting, our odds for a result were low, but I think Vlad came in in the top 20.

I bet in the P123 there were at least 10 flats. Possibly as high as 20, it seemed like there were flats at lest 2x per lap.

I don't always ride tubeless tires...but when I do, I prefer to ride them at Floyd...

Quick Cat 5 report: The field was relatively small, but quite strong. Everyone there was capable of hanging in a break -- and that's just what happened. It was just me and Aaron repping the orange, blue and white tonight. Ride Brooklyn had the largest contingent, with I think five guys in the field. This was my first race at Floyd, so I was excited to pop my cherry and work. And work we did -- the first two laps were hard but not crazy, and I found myself too often in the wind. After the first turn of the third lap, the field jumped, just moments after I had made a move. I tried to keep pace, but just didn't have it in my legs tonight. 

I spent the rest of the race in TT mode, trying to do what I could to pick up some ground on the field, while fighting off some annoying cramps. I ended up working with another unattached rider -- and then a kid who's now on Nosson's cycling team -- for the rest of the race. I have no idea where I finished, but it was a good learning experience and an even better workout. 

Looking back on the ride home, I realized that it wasn't just spending too much time in the wind that did me in, but making moves at the wrong moment. At Floyd, these mistakes are exaggerated by the wind, which will cut you down.

Aaron, though, did hung in there and finished 8th. I'm looking forward for my chance at redemption next week. It's worth noting, however, that Ride owned this race. They took most, if not all, of the top five, and controlled everything. Having more of our guys out there would have made a difference -- so use this as your excuse to ditch out of work early and get on out to Floyd. It's awesome. Oh, and for those who care -- I'll spare you my exact numbers, but tonight raised my critical power by 11W. Guess I'm just not training hard enough!

cat3/4's (10laps, 2.3mi ea) 7:01p 4corners, flat, 10-15mph winds

cat3/4 report: sole kcc; lined up w/WonderWheels& noted 4-5CiS's, Axis's &several other teams w/3-4 riders, first lap took front after turn1, &down right side into crossWind kept up high pace into turn2, w/ a slight headWind peleton slowed, i recovered @front 3rd; a couple flyers&followers went off the front into turn3&4, serious tailWind; repeat 4laps, then laps5,6,7 up front 2nd/3rd position @start/finish; clear by now, that there are some strong excellerators(sp?), but few sustainers or willing collaborators for a break; w/2laps 2go break of 4goes after turn1 1/2way down the side &establish 150m gap, after turn1 cat123 break passes on our right, after turn3 cat123 chasers pass, after turn 1 cat123 peleton passes in a haze of dust, after turn2, charlie neutralizes field& gives 1additional lap for cat3/4, bell lap! race on from start finish, speed up after turn2&3 full sprint by turn4...rode wheels from back to finish @16-18th...way out of money!

pleased to finish, no data, felt like pretty fast race@24-25mph?
was lonely for a cat4 kissena race @fbf, would be nice have a few teammates in next event.

Hey, how is the pavement "crack-itude" to weedage ratio this year?

It was really almost comically bad last year...

The course is pretty much as it always has been except turn 1 and the straight between turn 1 and turn 2. 

Turn 1 is really chopped up, huge chunk of pavement missing - but ridable if you know the turn. The straight between Turn 1 - turn 2 needs a good rain and street sweeping - lots of dirt and sawdust (I think) along most of the 1st half of that straight. Otherwise the course is pretty much as it has always been. Not many weeds. 

The pothole I flatted on in turn 2 is totally avoidable, but the 123 field was overtaking the 3/4 field around that corner and I pretty much had nowhere to go without being dangerous.

I think the high speed on the start finish and 2nd leg due to the tailwind make it feel bumpier (and look that way in the video) but its pretty much the same.

fbf-tnr 7may, video from chris castaldi(wonderWheels) is of cat3/4 race.

video ends w/break of(3) being neutralized on 10th lap b4 turn2, by passing 123field, it was a good break and would have likely stuck, charlie gave one one more lap, which turned into long sprint finish.

seems they(wonderWheel/axis/bertucci?) went w/3 2go, after the sprint(w/5 2go)&had previously sent (2)attacks up road to soften up field 'they took the bait,' i was impressed that they had 1/2lap on field...strong group.

great to see race...thanks Jules!

Oh my gawd! Oh my gawd! I won.
Thanks all and thanks to Sam Frias who bombed the inside on the final corner with me on his wheel, it was a fairly easy win. The new short course is crit-like and shaped like a Trivial Pursuit wedge... super fun with a grand canyon section followed by a bonus 'sand trap'. Nobody knows how deep that sand is and rumor has it, it's quicksand and several FEMA workers have succumbed to it.
Took some green jersey points too. Green jersey guy is a little Type-A about his jersey, I think we should mess with him. Thanks to Harry for doing a bunch of work to bring back Axis's relentless attacks. Arc guys brought back a two-up attack on the last lap.
