T-Town

I am looking at opening day - May 17 to get some speed work in. Anybody interested?

I won't be around this opening weekend of track racing, but as I did last year, I expect to be a semi-regular at Saturday's at T-town.
@eragot Yes Sir, I am very interested!
Sorry. I am going to Wilmington to race the crit instead. It will be better prep for next weekend's races. We'll go to ttown soon.
@eragot, no worries. But I will hold you to that ;)
Any track Cat4's want to hit up T-town on Sat 5/24?

Planning on making first of many trips this summer.

Got to laugh. I only got half a lap in before getting taken out by some jr rider. I go over the handlebars smack the ground pretty hard. Bike is ok but I'm getting a bunch of stitches in my chin and my wrist is about to get get x rayed. After the crash, Marty was like" you wanna keep racing?" I was like " fuck it, yeah". Then a nice rationally minded USAC official was like"... Nah you need stitches". Ah... So Karl Nelson speeds me off to the hospital. Totally different experience compared to a city hospital so far.

First crash on the track in going on five years of pretty consistent racing.

Ugh....I was hoping for great stories of racing glory. So sorry. Hang in there! Fingers crossed for no broken bones!
Andy... Hoping news will come back positive! Shit!
That's sucks Andy, thank God no bones were broken.
Bummer Andy. Heal up.
Andy, so sorry to hear about last night. Glad you didn't wait too long to get stitches--hopefully it'll all heal faster that way.
No broken bones. No concussion. Just some mild road rash and 7 stitches in my chin. Note to self also shave face before racing.
^ ouch - sorry to hear that - heal up soon dude! If it makes you feel any better, Marty probably thinks you're a real pro for wanting to carry on ;-)

Btw, hey everyone! Been a while since I've been on here...I'm back in NYC for 9 days starting next Thursday 12. Hoping to make it to the track that weekend! See some of you there? Maybe for those less track-inclined we can meet for a drink at some point too...
(that'll teach me not to keep an ear to the ground on the trackie thread!)

@Andy sorry/glad on that one.  Remember, pictures or it didn't happen

@Kieran Woo Hoo!
First track race of the year. Not bad not great. From the 2/3, 4th in points race. A better than average miss and out( played devil until Kim Giest decided she was gonna snipe me out) and thought I had the scratch race until I didn't.

Felt good just made a couple of mistakes.

Kieran is showing up a week late. I had to endure a freekin uci match sprint tourtement. Kiwi squad, Trinidad squad a few Canadians and the all the best U.S. sprinters. Dawkins won.
^ Endure! Dawkins is a legend, I'd give blood to compete with those guys.

@johnmalcomson. Hahaha i know. Just a little endurance v. Sprinter snark. They were running the sprint tourtement between the endurance events. It was really amazing to watch. That kind of compitation is the norm out there, and I kept having to remind myself what i was watching. The entire NZ sqaud looked as though they were just out for a sunday group ride. Last year's Jr U.S. national sprint champ, who is one year out of Jr's, got seated against Dawkins in the first round. Dawkins made it look like the kid had a chance and was gracious enough really speak/debreif with the kid after the heat. Class act.

p.s John, you don't need to give blood to compete against these dudes... Just got to meet me at the Lincoln Tunnel at 3:30 4:00 on a Tuesday!!! i even have a frame with your name on it man!

If by compete you mean skulling beer on a stationary trainer, I'm in!
This past Saturday Jeff White and I took our track game down to T-town for what we thought would surely be a good spanking. We found out that we're both not too far off the top guys in the Cat4 field at T-town and had no issues being in the mix in all the races. Granted, the races + mid-day sun/heat left our bodies in bad shape afterwards (hurt so bad!).

We ran a bit later than we expected and ended up just running on to the track in time to make our first race (which would be our first time riding this track! Talk about getting right into it).

The races were all a big blur for me, so I can't even attempt to write descriptive race reports, but I managed a little bit of success in my first time out there. Jeff tried a bunch of hard attempts and I was just focusing on staying at the front to be in the mix when shit went down. Somehow I finished 3rd place in the very first race (10-lap Tempo), nabbed another 3rd place in a 6-lap Scratch, and got a 5th place finish in the final race (a 18-lap points) that tore my legs off. Apparently that left me tied in Omnium points for 4th overall, but was officially slotted in 6th place on the day.

We had a blast making a day trip out of it. Would be awesome to wrangle up some more Kissena peeps next time to get out there with us. If you've never raced T-town, no way you won't come away faster racing there (and it's a blast!). We're planning on going again some Saturday in July.
If I'm around, I'll go with you guys and do the Masters - we'll meet in the feature!
I'd be happy to tag along and shoot photos next time you guys head out. Sounds like a good time.

I managed 4 or so T-Town Saturdays last year, including insanely doing both the Nittany Cross race in the morning, then racing the track at noon. Won't be doing that again.

I found the atmosphere to be extremely pleasant and while there definitely tend to be more experienced trackies at T-Town, it doesn't surprise me that you guys more than held your own. When I'm back in July, I hope to get out to the track both on Saturdays (more realistic) for the master's events and some Tuesdays (less realistic). There's no way that track racing doesn't help with your overall road racing game.
JP and I killed it in our points race. I scored 4th, 2nd and 3rd in the sprints. Then JP countered and stayed away for the final sprint. I hung in for third.

Then the sky opened up just as our race ended. Only got two races in.I really hope they post the results.

Edit:
Killed me be a bit hyperbolic, but we definitely controlled our race.

Lee Valley Velodrome awaits you Andy . . . ergo, London Olympic village. 250 m with ~55 deg bank.

Andy was third in the points race.  I was fourth.  I also got fifth in the miss and out.
Kayt & I snuck away Saturday to race T-town! Kayt mixed it up with all the strong women and was always in the mix, especially towards the end of our race day. My “highlights” were 6th place in the Tempo race, 4th in the Scratch, and I won 2 of 3 sprints in my Feature (15-lap Points) race for 2nd place. Racing 4 races in a day is awesome.
I am considering something insane. Going down Friday to race the 10 mile. Anyone want to see what racing at ttown is really about? If you want to race Saturday, grab a hotel room. While I would love to stay, it is unlikely that I would. However, if you have the opportunity to go, have transport (when my car fills up) and want to see 2000 people show up for awesome fun, say so and encourage me to get my ass kicked. Oh yeah, go too. Or, I can go to river head and ride like a boss and help teammates do well. Anyone? This is like Friday Night Lights, the only thing in town...
