Posting for a friend in Westwood Velo

Westwood Velo is once again bringing back its Cyclocross Race for 2012 being held at the Anthony Wayne Recreational Area located in beautiful Harriman State Park, NY. If you have raced this lovely venue in the past, and enjoyed it, then that‚Äôs why you are receiving this email.  Note that our race is back earlier than ever before, on one day only, in just over a month slotted for Saturday Sept 22nd.
 This Westwood Velo race is in memory of one time team member Paolo Zenoni, and a portion of proceeds raised by the race go to a fund Paolo had himself set up originally to help junior bike racers obtain equipment who couldn‚Äôt afford it. Our race is probably one of the earlier races of the season to go off in the area, so if you‚Äôre itching to do some Cyclocross racing like most of us are by this time of year.  Please then tell your fellow racers not to bother with a 4 hour drive to do a ho hum MAC race when we can all stay local, getting in some great racing, while supporting a great cause‚Ķ

OUCH with the club championship.

This race was in an awesome venue (easy drive from the city, and nice varied course)...my legs still hurt from the run-up, and the weird it-hasn't-rained-for-a-month-why-is-there-ankle-deep-mud-here section.

I remember it as a course that I learned about memorizing Ragot's lines through the turns in pre-riding the course, otherwise from the aforementioned parts of the course I would be off the back.

Two or three years ago, I did the saturday CX and then the Sunday Catch Kissena at FBF.  It was a brutal one-two.

I remember that weekend. That HURT! I didn't last as long as you did in the Kissena Paceline'o'Death(TM) from that club championship.

This is a really fun, well run race when I did it in 2010.  They did a good job with the course and it was relatively close.  One of my favorites that year, along with Beacon and HPcx.

Now I feel like I have to do both. I mean think how fun it would be to race in PP switch bikes jump in a car and do two awesome races in one day.

Fun? You must be new to this stuff. Fun is race pp then go watch others race Cx and you drink beer.

Of course trying to convince Liz to let me do the double is the not fun part...

FYI, there's something you need to know about this race. I've raced it for the last 2 or 3 years now and there are portions of the course that are ALWAYS thick, slow and muddy. The drainage there must be terrible and its placement on the bottom/side of a steep mountain side, mean that even if it hasn't rained for days, weeks or even years, it will still be a slow slog somewhere on the course. You guys who did it last year can attest to the fact that there was epic amounts of running (and I like to run) during a section after the run-up.

No hose set up for bike cleaning.

Yeah, what's up with the MAC series? Seriously weak website with lots of "dead spots," lots of graphics with no links, etc,  Beacon or HPCX, or Myle's LI race? I mean my calendar is filling up nicely with the New England stuff, but I do like many of the MAC events to fill things out a bit as well.

Marc Bertucco - due to enforcement of UCI rules this year re how many races can be in a series, MAC slimmed down, and Verge and Shimano split into 2. 

Supercross is still on but is not Mac this year. See the Super Cross thread for more info in the coming days. You should get every single person you possibly know to sign up for Super cross . Even your son. Start him young.

we had a good day today at westwood velo. joe 3rd, patrick 21, myself 24, and james 25. we took 3rd in the team rankings. nice job boys!

I'm doing the CAt 4 40+ which is the early race and have space on my rack/in my car for two others. I have to head home pretty quickly though and could only hang out probably for the next race. Holler if you need a ride, are reasonably close by(I'm in Greenpoint) or are located somewhere between me and the race.


Is the mud typically substantial enough that you should be running mud tires?

BTW, I don't know if many of us have separate mud and dry tires.

I know westwood has a reputation of being muddy, but as far as I can tell no real rain there in the past month:

I wouldn't go crazy looking for mud tires if you have decent all around tires.

Independence Cross (formerly Beacon)

I've decided to drive down early Saturday morning for the Cat 3 (b) race. Grab a hotel, spend the night, and race again Sunday. I can drive 1 other, or 2 if I can borrow a rack from someone. 

Any takers?

Mike, and all. Not for nothing, Independence/Beacon has always been a good, fun course. And this year they've made it a two day affair, which should be doubly fun. But on the same weekend you have Providence. Which from my house, is exactly ONLY 20 minutes farther than Beacon drive. Plus, the categories aren't filled, plus they do staging by crossresults.com rankings.

This year I am again faced with a problem. Luka is out of town which means Liz and I are free. BUT she has no desire to trek to Providence to watch a race. Nor a desire to stay over. Nor a desire to split up fie the weekend when. The weather is so nice. Now if it starts to look like rain...

OTOH providence is over an hour further away for me. Beacon really auota me and frankly, doing some lower key races can be fun. I'll be at beacon on Saturday. Don't k ow if in station g in Atlantic city or not. Lots a don't knows....

I figured thus year I could do Providence but somehow Luka is at my folks again. Grrrr. I'll say it again. Next year.
