Moser is coming back.  This time it's a charity auction of one of his bikes and a wine tasting.

In 1982, he was looking washed up.  Still a force in flat races, but definitely not a factor in hilly affairs.  In 1983 sometime, he hooked up with Conconi (whose disciples were Ferrari and Cecchini).  hatched the hour record plan.  Went to Mexico City in January 1984, broke the hour record, then broke his own record four days later.  Merckx, by comparison, was wrecked after his effort.

in 1984, he also won one of the flattest Giri in history, thanks to both the cancellation o a mountain stage and the updraft of a helicopter pushing him forward in the final tt.

THen, after he retired, he tried to set the record in 1988 on a giant rear wheel and in 1994 in an Obree tuck.

He definitely blood doped for the hour record.  It was legal at the time.   Moser now claims that Anquetil told him that he blood doped during his career.  A claim that is impossible to prove, as Maitre Jacques is dead.  But a bit hard to believe.  Not clear what assistance he had for the other things.

I'm just repeating what has been widely commented on by Fignon, his DS Guimard, and others.  The mountain stage cancellation has been widely reported on--allegedly because of snow, reporters went to the pass in question, and it was clear.  There is extensive helicopter footage of Moser's TT from that stage, and the chopper is always behind him and off to the side.  Fignon claimed that the chopper covering him was to the front, creating a headwind.  I haven't found any footage of Fignon's ride. though as they were riding on the road a few minutes apart, it's strange that there aren't cross-cuts showing both riders.  

I believe that it is within the realm of possible that a helicopter could be positioned to change wind dynamics over a small area. We've all felt the push and pull of a truck passing by closely.

Not exactly.  Grewal and Carpenter turned it down.  Twigg, who got second to Carpenter, did it.  

Both Grewal and Carpenter played the sprint better.  Grewal had been an occasional amphetamine user, but that would have failed on that day in 1984, as it was brutally hot.
