P2A Paris to Ancaster

This race competes with Battenkill, and is Ontario, Canada.  It's a 75 km off road (CX bikes) that is raced like a road race whenever it isn't single file.  It is a mass-start (waves), slugfest where better riders get called up in the "first wave"

If any of you hardcore types feel like a 2 hour all-in alternate to Battenkill, this one looks interesting.

You-know-who has won it 3 times running now, so we've won enough goodwill that we may be able to get some slots in the first wave.

I know it is a hike but it would be pretty neat to send a contingent of KCC's up there to smash.

I may be able to scrounge some housing with friends & family in Toronto if people need.

I sent Page a link to Canadian Mike's "How to Win" site. Should be a pretty good battle between those two at least. (I don't know who else is competing at the elite/pro level) Give the strength/power/fitness advantage to Page, but Mike's got all the experience with this race.

So, I just went back and re-watched the episode of How to Win that features Mike at Supercross...

And I couldn't help but to notice, that after Mike makes a joke about telling folks he's going to ride 25psi, when really, he's riding closer to 30, he also has a discussion with Dan Timmerman about tire selection, where he says he's going to ride a "dryer" tire, then there's a close up of his bike with Challenge Limus tires on.

Which, if I'm not mistaken, is Challenge's mud tire.

Oh, the trickery. I never knew Canadian's could be so devious. Well, Timmerman gets the last laugh I guess when he won the race.

Page is getting start money for P2A.  I find the start money thing strange for most pros.  Promoters claim they do it to help get people to the race, but I don't think Joe Canadia racer cares that Page is showing up.  I think the real reason is for the media.  Which might get people to the race the following year, but the value is probably when it convinces sponsors to keep paying for the race.

I think having the US National CX Champion's jersey at your race will pay for itself in increased prestige in an event that appears to be have a wide range of competitors "racing" the event.

It's a built in sound bite for any media coverage...

"US National Cyclocross Champion Jonathan Page, toed the line with 3 time P2A winner and former Canadian National CX champ Mike Garrigan, for what would be the most competitive event in years..."

Or something...

This year is the event's 20th anniversary. Rodger Hammond races it as well.

Sounds like it was chaos.  

Anthony Clark aka "Siiiiick Whaaaat!?!?" won the day, with Mike a marked man.

Paris Ancaster hotness. It is too early in the season for me, but I might consider it. Bucket list material for sure.

Before we commit to DK or some other nonsense.
I would love to do this race. Every year it comes up and I think "wow that would be awesome."

Then I realize that the time away from family, cost, etc make it a pretty crazy trip. For me it's two flights to get to Toronto then a 2 hour drive. Or a 2 hour drive to MSP then a flight to Toronto then another 2 hour drive. Or a 13 hour road trip. 

To be honest I'd rather save my travel PITA for the Three Peaks and meet y'all in Leeds for a carpool up.
