@Adam recently asked me about a Time Trial series in NJ that had been cancelled last year due to road damage. I headed to the website (pabikeracing.com) and it appears that they pulled the plug this season citing lack of interest. There are a few TT series in the Philly region, but this is too far for most of us. I know that I'm not the only one who would like to race an occasional TT. @Vlad needs a venue to ride his Di2 equipped TT rig!
My first thought was to convince a promoter to run a TT series locally. However, the chances of this happening are probably slim to none. There are too few venues and the interests probably does not justify the expense. Nevertheless, I would love to see it happen.
I started thinking that we don't necessarily need a series of "races' as much as more opportunity to practice suffering solo more often. Maybe if we had enough club interest we could organize an unsanctioned ride/race. Sort of like what we do when we show up for group rides: No fees, no support, just the opportunity to race against the clock and practice skills.
I know I'm out of my mind and this all hinges on finding a desolate enough circuit where people won't care we are there. A few locations come to mind: Floyd, the loop around SUNY Old Westbury or the loop around Rockland Lake just north of Nyack. They are reasonably traffic free and reasonably close. Riders would have to take intersections cautiously as they would not be a closed courses.
Any interest? Any thoughts on how to set something like this up and not open ourselves to all sorts of liability?
