It took me 15 minutes to get all of that fur out, and there's probably still some in there. I told my wife that the squirrel survived, but after assessing how tangled it was I'm not so sure.

So this happened. Giant TCX SLR2, Shimano 11 speed 105, trp disc brakes.

I took it out today for the first time and happened to run into Eloy who showed me how to get on and off the thing. Thanks for your patience, sir!

And. . . I got lost inside Prospect Park. Who knew the park was so big? With no asphalt (or caution tape) to guide me, I went by the prettiest little bench by the lake 3 times.

Aluminum bike but with lots of flat tubes all over the place. I think it will work well.

Oh, man, what a story.

This is the short version, but you should still make a cocktail while I tell the tell.

Rode to Tenafly to look at demo bikes from Cannondale. Nothing in my size, no CX bikes.

On faith, ordered the 61 from Ride, based on frame dimensions. Cannondale just cancelled the team discount. It was my birthday money so figured who needs a 2014 Roth IRA contribution? Bought it at retail, with a slight discount.

61 was too big.

2 weeks later, Ride switched the components with a 58 from from the Williamsburg store, different color, because Cannondale didn't have any more.

Brought the 58 home but the seat stay was crushed. Brought it back.

Two weeks later, we were waiting to see if I could get a 2015 frame. No dice until January. Ride came through and offered me the Giant they had on hand, a more expensive bike.

The Cannondale was a sweet bike, rode well (from the store), felt nice.

The Giant fits me well, 11 speed, looks great. I'm going to be happy with the bike.

Lessons learned?

Spend the money for the bike fit and get the right one.

Ride is a good store, but they don't always call, so, like anything in this city, if you want it, keep calling and go after it.

That being said. . . Patience. Not everything is the internet. Bike companies move on their own time. The internet does too, at times.

Most important:

Unclip left before unclipping right and then dismount.

Yeah I remember most of that story from the last time I saw you, but I thought you were getting a replacement CAADX still.. This bike looks better anyway.

Oh, and this.. "Most important: Unclip left before unclipping right and then dismount".. I used to do that when I was learning to dismount. But then I was having some handling issues as I was swinging my right leg over. But, I eventually learned that your left foot will unclip instinctively as soon as your right foot touches the ground.

See you at the next cross race (which is tomorrow btw).

Here's my new old bike. I rode this on the group ride last Saturday. For those who care about such things. Chesini are a small bike manufacturer from Verona. As with many such enterprises in Italy: started as a bike shop in Verona by an ex racer, who made the his first frame in1925. There is still a Chesini bike store in Verona.

Also for those of you who wonder why clipless pedals have that name - when the one thing you actually do with them is clip in and out of them. They are called that because they are pedals without toeclips (and straps) - hence clipless.

Also I should really have taken the photos outside in the sun, rather than in my scruffy basement - but I was just about to pack the bike up into it's travel case and I was too lazy to move it.

So many good touches. Toe-strap buttons! matching cable housing. Love the FMB tubulars as well.

Is that a mix of 1986 Dura Ace and Ultegra? I always liked the look of that post and those brake calipers. What brake lever is there? I think A'me hoods you've got there were designed for dia-compe levers.

I think the a'me's designed for campy from that era fit fine. Here's a blue set on eBay.

@mugwump Only the hubs are Dura Ace 85 or 86 - right when they started making freewheel hubs and cassette hubs. This is freewheel. 6 speed. The rest is a matching shimano 600 series (ulltegra, but before the name was invented). 6207 to be precise. The levers are shimano 600 too. Saddle are bar tape are Iscaselle.
