@Kayt that's so awesome!  Wish I could do it with you (and Gwynna et al), but my new health insurance doesn't kick in until August (even though I signed up and paid for it weeks ago, GRR).  Will be sending good thoughts!

(Maybe I can fit in the August CRCA women's dev race despite marathon training...)
@Gwynna, great to hear you're thinking of racing the R&A! It's a great local race, and the more women in the field, the better! The race last month was fast at the start, but it mellowed out, and it was a lot of fun (and very safe thanks to the new start/finish line on the west side of the park).

@Lindsay--that was your first bike race! The next one will be better.

@Emily--I wish you could join us, too! But health insurance is priority numero uno; marathon priority numero dos :)

Congrats Kayt. Well deserved.
Have you ever seen anyone so smooth out of the saddle?

R&A race coming up this Saturday, 7/12.  Remember that this is one of the few local races with a women only field...

Bonus incentive: Kayt will be looking to defend her Cat 4 leaders jersey!

Women...we know you are out there. Racing, riding, being awesome in your own quiet ways. Now is a great time to rally some more team spirit and get out there and help Kayt defend the jersey. It's a great accomplishment to own a leader's jersey. Lets dig deep, get outside your comfort zone a bit and rock the roads of prospect park this weekend!
Three more weeks 'til insurance kicks in, but considering coming out to wave Kayt's pom-poms from the sidelines.

So... contrary to popular belief, I haven't been kidnapped nor have I spontaneously combusted. Although I came close on Sunday's 9W tempo ride w/ @Yang. I've just had to dial back the intensity of my KCC participation thanks to the lovely combination of ailing relatives visiting from out of state / having my boss up and quit thus being "field promoted" and dealing with the fall out / preparing an 800 sq ft apartment for a baby. It's. Been. Rough. But! I'm (kinda) back, and just registered for this Saturday's R&A to help @Kayt defend her snazzy leaders jersey! Woohoo!!! Now back to catching up with the 1,000,000 new posts on all these threads...
Ladies, ladies.  Ran into (and hopefully recruited) a lady today in the park with Jeff A's help.

She attacked us on the downhill; in the drops, killing it Mercx-style; rocking no helmet, a pie plate, sneakers (with toe clips) and a bigass set of earphones... she attacked us and drilled it towards the horizon.

We finally caught up with her, and asked if she raced.  "No, but I'd love to!" was her reply.

50/50 chance we can get her to pin on a number for this saturday's race... :)

Hi Gals! I'm back riding some now : ) I just won't do pacelining yet or large group rides until the bone heals more. maybe closer to fall time.

I'm really excited about this and thought I wold share:
I just started to watch this ( I stlll have a half an hour more to watch)  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oxNznrlRXGU
before my trainer workout today. When he started talking about seat height and angle.
I thought, yeah, my hamstrings are tight! so took his advice and lowered my seat a bit. What he says made sense to me for many reasons.

I can definitely feel that i can angle my body/ hip angle more acutely and felt my quads working more, rather than the burn i usually feel in my knee when I push harder. Is the quads where I should always be feeling the burn? does that indicate I'm using my power better (without using a power meter to judge)

I'm going to try it on my road bike too out on the road. I'd love any feedback or comments if you have them.

Also here is a pic of me before my second nyack ride in my kit and new tires : ) Its been fun seeing you all on the road coming back from epic rides as I'm just starting out.
Anyone want to go for a ride in the morning?  Nice weather and we can discuss tactics for defending Kayt's jersey.  I'll be at GAP @6.  Come out!

Nicely done today Ladies, very impressive!
Race report! Between impending parenthood and recently upgrading and subsequent getting my ass kicked by the women's 1/2/3 field at Giro, I've been laying low on the race scene. But with Kayt's cat 4 leader's jersey to defend, I just had to do R&A this weekend. No pressure to win or even place well myself (in fact, I proudly finished 19/20 in the field sprint), just make sure Kayt stays in the lead.

I've actually never raced Prospect Park, but that's gonna change because IT WAS SO MUCH FUN! Kayt said past couple races started really really fast, got slow, and finished fast, so I showed up early to warm-up and be ready to hammer from the start. We actually started fairly mellow. Not neutral, but nothing extreme.

After finding myself behind one of the worst wheels in the NYC women's peloton (Erica from Radical) I made my way to the front with the idea of controlling the pace. I pretty much stayed on the front for 9 out of our 10 laps, eating wind like it was my #breakfastoftheday.

There were a couple attacks which I managed to chase down with Kayt. We kinda played leap frog, since I was on the front and my reaction to attacks was a bit delayed and fatigued. Then on the first QOM lap, I attacked the hill at the base and didn't let up until I was foaming at the mouth. This forced the hand of the QOM leader and sprint leader, who had to start their efforts earlier than probably necessary, resulting in some very fatigued leaders jerseys going into the next lap. Kayt caught up with me and asked for a repeat of that early hill attack for the final lap. Yes ma'am!

Last lap, I started my hill sprint just past the zoo. By mid-hill, I was foaming at the mouth and well into my red zone. Kayt came up around my wheel and I yelled "go! go! that's all I've got!" and she was off! I caught my breath, jumped on a wheel, and got back into the field by GAP hoping I could help Kayt again... but basically just managed to get myself into field sprint rather than finishing off the back. I was happily exhausted, knew I gave it my all, and so THRILLED that Kayt gets another weekend in the maillot rose et noir! Woohoo!

Also, a shout out to Skillz & Drillz! Tonya Miller from Major Taylor hit a pothole on an early lap and her only water bottle went flying into the field. No crashes, everyone remained calm, and the field slowed down for a moment. Kayt, in an act of extreme largesse, gave Tonya her extra bottle. Classy lady, that Kayt. But upon seeing this exchange, my only thought was "but Kayt needs water too!" so I offered her my extra bottle. She declined, but took me up on the offer later in the race, when increased speeds and fatigue made for a slightly more treacherous exchange. But no sweat. Skillz & Drillz prepared us for a smooth and nerve-free hand-off. Thanks Skillz & Drillz!

Thank you for the awesome race reports, @Erika and @Gwynna. I am so grateful for @Erika's amazing lead out and the overall teamwork--not to mention the camaraderie in the larger pack (for the most part). It was a thrilling Saturday morning, which went by in a flash. Can't wait for next week, wearing that beauty of a jersey without fail.
I urge the KCC ladies to jump into the R&A field for Kayt this weekend. Racing with and for teammates is thrilling, and Prospect is Kissena turf. Gotta defend!
Here is one shot of the teammates.

Damn, looks like R&A is cancelled this weekend due to construction in the park. That just means we have a couple more weeks to practice protecting Kayt and leading her out for the sprint! Ladies, if you're gonna get one more race in for the season, mark your calendars for August 16th.
And shit.

I am scheduled to be on vacation August 16.

I quote Yacks from the R&A thread:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
