Relatively easy start times for the P/1/2/3 and 4 fields 9am

Cat 5 people, a few races to put under your belt to upgrade to the 4s early in 2014, though your races start at 8AM.
I can do october 20th and 27th!!!

Definitely thinking about this for october... need some motivation tho...
am interested!
-h;-)
Hm, this might be enough to get me out and training again..  And much better timing for me than 6pm weekday races.
Alrighty folks, I'm almost definitely racing this Sunday.  Let me know if anyone wants to hook up beforehand and ride out there together.

Alex, not to discourage you in any way, but don't you have cross races to rock these days?
holy crap, i think i can actually do 10/13 for my 1st race... exciting.
Hey y'all! Anyone going to the airfield this Sunday? I think I'll get annihilated in the 4 Cats, so thinking about racing the 5, especially since it's my first time racing there.

Pretty damn early, but I guess truck traffic won't be as bad..? If anyone wants to venture out there with a friend on Foundation and me, holler.

OT - kind of related.  There is also a race going on in FBF tomorrow (Saturday).

@Kayt & @Sharma - I can head out there with you guys earlier to warm up and cheer you on.  Meet where and when?  And are we eating pie afterward?
@David: yay for the cheers! And yes please for pie.

Mr. @Sharma, are you planning to race this Sunday or two Sundays form now? No time like the present...
As someone who has never raced before, would this series be a good opportunity to give it a try?
I love pie.    Good luck to you guys/gals racing this weekend.
hey yall--

the only one I can realistically do is 10/13-- already on the calendar.  Would love to some company then for sure!  @kayt and all have a killer time tomorrow!
I'll be there in the 4s. What is this pie nonsense?
4 and twenty blackbirds on third and 8th. There will be pie.

IMO a park race is probably a better introduction because of proximity but FBF is a pretty unique place to race. Remember to bring extra tubes and top off your tires. The course is legendary for trashing tires and wheels in general.

@Dennis Floyd is as good as any place to start. the fields will likely be small this time of year. Just do it.
Thanks @david - guess I'll keep my eyes peeled for upcoming races in the park. But from the sound of it, I might have to wait a while!
Dennis I don't mean to discourage you at all. My only 'negative' is that it is out of the way.
Another OT - @Dennis, there's an upcoming race at Prospect Park next Saturday. Pete Senia memorial. They have a Cat 5 field.
Okay - sounds like there are still a few options left this year... Thanks for the suggestions/info! Looking forward to getting out there and seeing what all the fuss is about.
Well the electric run happened at Floyd last night and the course was left littered with neon Solo cups, glow sticks and empty gallon bottles of bubbles...Yanger and Mehlenbeck were there with me.  It was a handicap race with the cat IV's getting a one minute head start...which shockingly we held....I think it was 15 laps on the loooong course.  I flatted about 10 laps in and got a quick wheel change, but no free lap so I had to surf the back of the pack for the remainder.  Forgot my power cal so no hr/watts....but it was pretty hard = always pedaling, never coasting.
Here's another view of the course before the race.  It was like 1999 threw up and left a glow stick and neon solo cup mess.  Race organizers showed up late, maybe they were thinking of cancelling?  but there were a ton of racers there by that point.

Wardrobe malfunction required Yacks to use safety pins.  He tried to call the Champ Sys customer service to get his 14 year old kit replaced.  I didn't have the heart to tell him his phone was a banana.

Race: I tried to hang out in the front and bridged up to a break early.  Not very windy today so everything got caught quickly.  A serious break with like 10 guys split with 5 or 6 to go.  I saw them go around the 3rd corner and disappear but no one wanted to chase and thought that it was all over.  Even with a $50 prime at 4 to go people were just keeping pace.  Finally we somehow got organized and I coaxed the two Asphalt Green dudes in front of me to start chasing hard and we caught the break at the home straightaway.  I was done by that point but managed to stay up front with 2 to go.  There were a few more attacks that didn't last long and with everyone together the field slowed down eyeing each other on the bell lap.  I marked a few stronger looking dudes and was in decent position, but lost the wheel in front of me when people jumped early.  Possibly managed a top 10 spot which, hey, I'll take it!

Kayt and I headed over to Four and Twenty Blackbirds for some pie and pastries post race.  It made me superbly happy.
Not power numbers, but you can see the speed spikes...

That was a tough race. It was my first race with other teams involved since April. I got dropped about half way through. I didn't stick around for the end, but Yang rode awesome. Yack-fu was, well, completely Yackadelic!
@twoyacks. I've rocked that same Jersey and safety pin city combo twice this summer. It was my trunk jersey for emergencies. Turns out I've forgotten my jersey twice this summer.

Nice work.

I feel really dumb now.  FBF: just leave the number pinned to your jersey... duh.
Suck it, mere mortals!  According to the race results I don't have to follow the stupid laws of physics that dictate your puny human lives.  I am a subatomic particle governed by quantum mechanics and am allowed to be in more than one place at once.
