I also have a Limus rear, but no need for a cassette swap if you're running ten speed. I couldn't make it out there today, but will be there tomorrow. What time is your race?

michaelP, ouch! sorry about injury...heal-up fast&even more importantly FULL!
my race: masters50+, not so good, mechanical on warm-up lap...could not clip in left pedal. i went neutral support/almost as fine as the bell ringer for bell lap...&fellow proceededto rebuild spd pedal(spring popped&lost) @1/2done noticed line-up for my race, put broken pedal back on bike& jumped on back of pack as last racer pasted start/finish...hope thats kosher, rode hard, fairly well in turns, no falls, gained some ground on others 5-8places, ran the HILL! each of 6-7laps lost loads of time there on remounts...poor efforts on most all obstacles, still, rode hard to end, no idea where i finished. GREAT& really beautiful setting for course.
try again tomorrow.

On the drive home right after leaving the course, we saw Aly on his scooter going to the race. Bike mounted on the right side. Comical Yet very cool..

Quick update as to the afternoon races. Gwynna raced very hard and met her "don't get lapped" goal by a lot. Even with relatively short laps, She wasn't anywhere close to being lapped. I'm not sure what her result was at this moment.
Then we had a healthy group of Kissena's racing in the Cat 4 regular age division. And boy did they race. I hope they all write up stories. I've got laundry to do now so I don't have time, but lets just say, how does 3 Kissena's in the top 10 sound? Good? Right? Wrong. GREAT!

Beautiful venue. Adorable town with so many cute shops within minutes of the course. Sarah enjoyed shopping while I was scaring spectators with my raucous scream-cheering. Including a bakery that won on the Food Network's Cupcake Wars. Also a pumpkin/cider donut/veggie/corn maze/live music/hay ride place just 30 seconds from the course parking lot.

@stokes - your advice was totally on point. I woke up this morning with further swelling and tightness. took 2 ibuprofen and slept for 3 more hours.
Hope you all kick ass today. Looking forward to hearing reports. That has got to be really interesting backwards.

my race masters50+, not so good again, different story same result...
started 2nd row right, on the inside advantageous placement for a 1st turn right(8riders per row) lined-up 16th/38), started well 14-15th @1st turn; course is reverse of previous day w/steep down-hill& same obstacle/lifts, damp grassy conditions, spectacularly brilliantly sunny, &57dF, quick rolling descents &switch-back climbs, definitely a big ring course on flats&descents; did ok 1st lap, 9th@finish area, 11th by lap3 of 6, slid-out in front an encouraging Bertucco @front side pit area, held on to 11th +/- till lap 4, after start area 180d hairpin turn rolled front wheel(a clincher! had lowered airPressure from 28 to 'gushy' per Josh on RoskoTeam), by next turn, no air in tire, slow slippery ride on rims to front side pit area, no Bertucco yelling@me this time..."need a tire," yelled in BiG voice to catch his attention @finish area& gratefully, marc brought me his front wheel! LOVE KCC TEAMmates&support for cx-neophytes like myself, thankYOU marcB! (2nd wheel in (4)weeks racing!), note1 2cx newbies take/arrange set of wheels for pit area!), jumped back in for 2final laps &was disHonored w/my 1st 'lapped racer' i was passed by the (2)way-off-the-front leader's sprint to finish, in the last 100m ouch! still, not DFL 2nd or 3rd to last place...hard race; correction CX is hard!!!!!! and anyone who wins places or is in the top 20 is AWEsome! in my book...

ps. Josh from Rosko is off hook or at least jury still out, for poor tire air pressure advice ie. 'gushy' was indeed grippy in turns&my roll/flat turns out to have been a thorn in tire & likely slow leak. -h

Lined up with Marc for the 40+ cat 4 race today. It was pretty cold, slick, and windy. There was a fair amount of sliding around on the first lap as people adjusted to the wet course at race speed. Yesterday's ride-up/run-up was interesting as a descent. The race would not be won or lost there, so I decided it was more important to stay upright and make passes on the uphill section that followed. Marc was jockeying back and forth at the front, and I was holding on to a top 10 spot. I dumped it on the third lap on the hairpin turn after the barriers, losing one place in the process, along with any remaining shred of dignity that I still had. I knew I was looking at a pretty good finish, so I dug as deep as I could to hold off an attack up the climb to the finish line, coming across for my first top 10 of the year, at 9th place. Marc came across a well deserved 3rd. Not a bad day!

It was great to see all the Kissena support out there including some new faces. The cheering on the uphill section was awesome.
I raced the Cat 4 open field on Sunday afternoon which allowed me to sleep in and spend some time with the family. Unfortunately, I hit traffic on the way to the race and got there later than expected. Even worse, I discovered that the quick release for my front Shorty Ultimate brake had fallen off rendering it useless (a "barrel" holds the cable to the cantilever arm). I couldn't find it at home when I got back so it probably fell off somewhere on route 80. Unlike last year when Marty's had SRAM neutral support they had limited support and the shop was closed. Thankfully, Eric Ragot has the same brakes and lent me his "barrel" from his pit bike. I heard he also rescued Konrad's bike.

While I was once again good to race, I had missed my opportunity to pre-ride the course. This was a problem because it took me several laps to find the best lines for several turns. There were some that I never did get quite right like the 180 degree turn over roots and loose dirt around a tree. There was also a fast curved descent that I never felt I got quite fast as I could have.
I had a first row starting position and clipped in quickly and could have had the holeshot, but backed off given that I did not know the course. I wanted to follow wheels for the first lap at least. I got myself comfortably in 5th. A few seconds later the two leaders had already crashed on the off-camber turns up top. I was right behindd Joachim and several busy passed us on the first lap including Konrad. Nelson was also in the mix. I followed Joachim throughout the race like glue. I would close in on him during the turns but he tended to distance me on the barriers and some power sections. In the end Konrad got 5th, Joachim 7th and I got 8th. Nelson got a mechanical and Josh got a healthy 23rd.
This was a fun race, but all that climbing was, as Jesse Pinkman would say, a "Bitch"

A lot of climbing, much of it with the wind in yer face. That hairpin turn was fun....either dusty, or rooty, or both. A perfect tire-rolling opportunity. Reminded me of the mountain bike days.

As we lined up, I was surprised at the #s (maybe 25 folks there - ends up only 32 were registered). They called out 20 numbers at a time. As a couple of us were like "wow, this is a small race" one of the guys says "this is HUGE. I race MTB and if we have 10 to 13 that is a big field". I did the Cat 3 race both days this weekend. I was 16th on Saturday and 6th on Sunday.
Saturday was not a great showing. Things just weren't clicking.
Sunday was better. I got the hole shot, led for half a lap, then held my position fairly well to the finish.
Coming into the first turn I was one of three in position to take the lead. The other two didn't go for it. So, I did. I led until the steep downhill, when 3 or 4 guys passed me. I spent the next few laps tacked on, then yo-yoing off, then a few meters behind the lead group of 5-6. Once I was permanently off the back of the lead group, which had dwindled to 4, I was stuck between the leaders and a chase group of 3. One of the chasers caught me with 2.5 laps to go. The guy who caught me gapped me on the switch-back descent with 2 to go, and I never quite regained contact. I lost to 5th by about 5 seconds, but held off the other two chasers.
Thanks to Marc for his valuable, easily audible, mid-race feedback. Also thanks to Harry, who showed me the best line on the big descent. It took me 6 laps to get it right. But once I did, it was way faster.

So according to the results, I finished 12th in the 40-49 Masters on Saturday. I know that's wrong because I abandoned the race. I contacted Jim Bernstein and he said at this point there's nothing he can do about it.
Is that true? I don't want the result next to my name.
Hey Phillip - while I applaud your honesty, I have to tell you the same thing I tell people seeking to improve their posted results after the fact:
Everyone was available at the venue to make corrections to
the results but now we're well outside the 15 minute protest period. The
officials have long ago gone home (along with their race notes) and at this
point it's both difficult (if not impossible) and contrary to the rules to make
any changes to the results. So they're going to stand as posted.

Yeah...I agree Phillip, it's out of your hands. You did the right thing. Think of it like Obama's Nobel Peace Prize, as motivation to achieve that kind of awesomeness in your future!
I do find it troubling that the officials however made at least two errors regarding lapped and/or DNF riders that I am aware of. That's usually something that happens on the road. In cross, I've found results tend to be much more reliably accurate.
P.S. Does this mean I was 23rd instead of 24th? And 10 lower points for crossresults.com rankings, knocking off one of my higher point totals, thereby lowering my pointage and improving my start position for Northampton? DAMN YOU OFFICIALS!!!

Awesome report!! Knowing where you are and where you need to focus is huge. Work on your weaknesses, and enhance your strengths. We are part of a great team....the results are great, but the camaraderie and support are second to none.

I don't know the impact on points, but I would imagine there is one. I have seen this before. The officials from Marty were the same ones who did Westwood Velo, and the USAC results from that race also showed no DNF's, for ANY RACE.....seems unlikely. It only showed finishers. Crossresults.com also tracks finishes above/below top 50%, 25%, etc, and those percentages are affected by this as well, for those who track them. It would seem that uniformity in reporting would be a given, but it does not appear to be.
