Bear Mountain Spring Classic

Race day Sunday May 11th -- I’ve heard great things about this race.

Does anyone else have this on their radar?

Has anyone raced it in the past?

If enough people are interested, It would be great to arrange a car trip one weekend to ride the course. I can offer to drive and pile in my volvo wagon.

PS: I was lucky to have half a day today - so I drove out there and scouted the loop and the entire area. Had time to only ride one course lap. Its gorgeous - and of course HILLS!

Hey everyone looking at bikereg and noticed that Bear Mountain looked like you could register. http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=12926. What's with the lingo? How come there's not just a Cat 1 field Cat 2 field ect? Or am I missing something.
I agree the vernacular is a bit odd. It makes it look like they've made the race masters only or something. If I had to guess I'd say they're just trying to make sure the Juniors field is distinct from the others.

It does say they'll split the 4's into age groups as they did last fall.

(As a side note, Joe, remember last fall when the older field cruised by us and talked a bunch of smack about our race being slow before Kissena went to the front and started trying to kill everyone? I can't wait for this race, I'm already imagining how our big group of 4's can make people suffer. I've already got all kinds of crazy ideas about tactics for this one!)

Thanks Ryan. Looking forward to the master plan. I'm going to sign up later tonight.
Hey guys; I'm helping out with the race this year, as I've done since 2003. Not sure what you're questions are, but if you have a specific one you can shoot me an e-mail off-list at alan_atwood@hotmail.com.

Pro/1/2 is the elite field -- it's never been a Pro/1.
Masters 35+ is restricted to categories 1-3.
45+ and 55+ is restricted to categories 1-4.
Note that there is no cat 5 category for this race, nor can cat 5's compete in masters races.

Thanks,
Alan
Hey all, looks like I'll be able to race this bad boy after all - do I understand correctly that those under 37-38 would be racing together?
I hope so! I just signed up and I expect you smaller guys to tow me around.
@Alan: Thanks Alan if I have any more questions I will be sure to email you.

@Jeff O: Be sure to bring a rope to tie around the climbers!
I am in for the 55+. Any other master (45+/55+) joining me? Hurry up! Combined field limit 100, I'm 81rst. Dusan, I see you're in, with the "young" guys. That's already a team!
Same for Cat 4 A&B — already 157/200 entries.
I'm onboard for the cat4 elders race.

Yep, me too.
I'll be in the cat4 old farts group. Gotta find my climbing legs between now and then.

Okay Stéphane - I signed up. I'll be in the 45+. It'll probably be my first race of the year, but I'll do whatever I can for you.
I'm in. With the young bucks. Oof.

Great, Jo. It will probably be my second race of the year, after Quabbin. I have two goals: the first one is to do this race I've cancelled several times (last minute travel, whooping cough, unexpected surgery, race cancellation, etc.), the second one is to have fun racing. Your participation will contribute to the realization of this second goal!
Rats - anyone else bumped to the waitlist?
Bumped! Sweet, now I can get fat again with that extra $35.
Good point! See, I should be more of a 'glass half full' guy.
I've been waitlisted.

Something screwy about hoping to get an opportunity to wake up before dawn, drive for an hour and a half to a race at which I know I will suffer and get dropped on the climbs while my friends are sleeping in, enjoying a lazy Sunday morning after a night of socializing.

Now that I've gotten those of you who aren't waitlisted to reconsider, can I have your spot? ;-)

If not, Bill, Jeff and I might have to get fat together

Patrick
Waitlisted.

Cat 4 is 100 instead of 200—I signed up at 147. Weird that not one Kissena 4 made it in.

Eric, can you upgrade me to junior girls instead?

Good drills this morning. Thanks Eric.
Waitlisted too! Grrr. The race is the day after my last final of the semester, too - I was looking forward to celebrating with some painful climbs at dawn.
So what are the chances that we'll get in? Should I get my money back now? I really wanna race.
No idea where I was on the list, I asked and got this funny message:

"I sent you a refund - you're so far down on the waitlist there's no way you'll get in."
Ouch!
Well, I think I reg'd around the same time as you, Bill. Hm.
Damn, after flatting in the crucial moments last fall I was SO looking forward to this race!

It looks like our 4 squad is entirely waitlisted. We don't have a single rider in the race.

(Lucky for the other teams!!)

Maybe if there aren't other races that day (TTT in Frenchtown, NJ, anyone??) we can do a big team ride or something
I would be down to do the race in Frenchtown. I'm super bummed I wanted to get revenge from last year as well.
They are clearly scared of us and decided Kissena isn't CRCA enough to play with their ball(s). Also, I'd probably get dropped on the second climb. Beers away!
JOhn,
Until you apply for an upgrade on usa cycling's website, I can't do anything.

Does he need some sort of medical paperwork to get the move to Junior girls approved?
no, I have no question about his femininity
eric
Seriously, which person looks more feminine?
