Oh who are we kidding.  We're all gonna watch.  Rant on!

I thought we'd have a running commentary from Jensy.
He did a 1:15 kilo to start it off. That's 5 seconds faster than I can do it, period.
They glued down the helmet straps to his face and had to remove it with a solution after he finished.  I'm going to do that for my next park race for that extra aero benefit.
Jensie did it.  Cool.

One of the most boring things I've ever watched.  Though, the last 10 laps were pretty exciting.

Lap after lap at 400w....while REO Speedwagon pumped in through the Velodrome speakers (BRING IT JOHNSTON)....painful, but hell, it's only like 215w more than I typically did for an hour in the basement at Ride Brooklyn.   Pffft.

So - odds on how long this lasts before Tony Martin or Fabian smash it to smithereens?

Considering the shit music we've all endured in Ride Brooklyn's basement I found his soundtrack downright lovely.

I've all but completely abandoned any and all cycling idols due to doping; sure would be sweet if it turns out Jens was clean in the dark years.

@Jeffery White

Faster indoor track and full aero gear could probably save you around 3-5  seconds. But yeah. I remember looking Coppi's splits and thinking back to my Kilo time. Doing that for an hour... Insain. Apparently after a certain point the g-forces of the track start to become almost as difficult as the pain from the actual effort.

Vlad will not endorse this comment.
No shoe covers.  Interesting choice in helmet--wonder how it compares to other aero road helmets.

I was also surprised to see that he was 36 meters shy of Moser's 1984 record.  And that was on a less aero bike, no aero bars, less aero helmet, toe clips and straps, but illegal wheels and in Mexico City.  And epo, not that the UCI was looking for it then.
Looking at the photo gallery did Jens have something under his skinsuit on his left leg?  Possibly one of the non-invasive LT meters?
My question is who will break Bordman's record. Also @mugwump‌ I think shoe covers are no longer UCI kosher on indoor tracks.

Will those shout-outs be worth $110?
All i know is that you're talking about a fan base that spends thousands of dollars for wheels they use once a week for 90minutes at the crack of dawn at local parks.
Well if anyone is interested I signed up for 2 free tix and will try to get there 7-730p to suss out how bad the queue will be. Anyone want to check it out with me? If it looks hopeless/crowded, happy to go for some pizza and beer down the street instead and quote ridiculous Jens-isms.
Interesting analysis of what it takes to set a new hour record taken in advance of Alex Dowsett's hour record attempt.  Silca appears to be a sponsor of the attempt.

what's the over under that he sets a new record?

I want him to beat the record, but intuition says he wont (too many distractions)
Will be livestreamed https://www.youtube.com/alexdowsettofficial
Bump! I think it's fascinating that he thinks he can get the air in the building swirling.

TLDR: He does not break the record, but OMG that was close AF.

Dowsett was shooting for 350ish W vs Campy's 340ish W at same track @ 1.9km altitude. Looks like Dowsett's position was too aggressive, he was all over the place.

The ability to hold the shortest line could well have been the difference.

From Josh Poertner of Silca  "The expectation for Alex’s attempt would be that he will likely ride an extra 400-500 meters relative to the final distance.  This means that his actual speed will have to be as much as 0.5kph higher than he gets credit for."

I wonder if they'll share what his actual distance was.  Would be interesting to know if his inability to hold a straight line was what mattered.
I dunno; he started out behind and never seemed to get back up to it. Kudos to him for all the prep & going through it - I feel quite bad for him tbh. It's not often we see these things undertaken when people can't get it done.

my guess is that he was maybe aiming for a negative split, but yeah, he was never really ahead -- still super close.
He did a trial 30 minute effort a few days earlier and realized he was going out too hard. I think he had the discipline for the first half, but ran out of legs for the second. As @mugwump points out the extra distance didn’t help

Since we're heavy into armchair expert mode...

Was thinking about the above.  Dowsett appears to be much bigger than Campanaerts.  It's impressive that they thought he only needed an extra 10w, but maybe that's why his position was so aggressive-seeming.

According to ProCyclingStats,

Dowsett is 1.82m and 75kg
Campanaerts is 1.73m and 68kg (and born in Hoboken)

Aerocoach/Silca has an analysis, plus a cool graph of lap times.

A few early laps were too hot, which might have been one of the things that sunk the effort

"Dowsett on the other hand is a tale of thirds.  An overly hot first third, a very well paced but declining middle third and a final falling apart third that was rather difficult to watch."
