For the masters 40+ on Sunday April 22...
It's hard to read how the race is going to go looking at the registration.
Weather Channel looks to only have three riders: Loehner, Rahn, and De Bartolo. I would have figured they would have brought more riders to both work on securing the points jersey and keeping the leaders jersey. Still Loehner, the leader, is tough to beat. He can probably get in any break.
I figure that's the big thing. The Jordan team is big, but I don't think more than a few are out for the team race. Their guy Jose Guzman is second in the series and their guy alan Buday is probably going for the KoM. I don't see them trying to control the race though.
Axis is big, but I'm not sure of the fitness of their riders.
Brands is pretty together as a team, and that's important. Need to watch for that.
Dioslaki will be there. He's good for both the attacks and sprinting.
Rorech as well.
We've got six, with those numbers, we need to play a role--if we miss a move, people will be looking for us to help with chasing.
I think we want a move, ideally with Loehner, Dioslaki, Rorech, maybe Guzman, maybe a Brands rider, Maybe Aksa's Matt Seaton (haven't seen Seaton race in a while, don't know his fitness).

There was a bike race this morning. It was warm enough to wear the bibs. It was faster than last time. Yacks felt frisky and attacked...Once on the hill where Nelly had been in a small move. I did not see him...:( JP yelled something as I went by...I thought it was "GO"! but it was probably "No"! Anyways...groupo compacto in the finale. I helped JP slot in behind the Brands train...then I did my usual Harry Caray by attacking before the climb
...interestingly I can see across the park and i had a good view of the sprint by the time I was near the top of the climb

Don't have much cept I'm starting to get my sea legs and tried to find a move or two this morning...at one point I slipped across to a 2 man move with the Van Dessel Factory rider but those guys just looked at me when I bridged...fyi Lookin's free...touching is gonna cost em a little something. Charlie provided a pre-race tongue lashing about the Masters lethargic pace the last time around...I'm flummoxed by all this as he also reiterated his disdain for sprinting for anything beyond 10th place...so which is young feller? Is that you wants us to ride fast or sit up? Soo confused...
oh and there is a power file...from a bike computer that seems to be keeping the drops to a minimum

A pre-race meeting with well defined goals and roles is crucial to developing as racers and as a team. Fun racing yesterday.
Knee-warmer weather made the racing faster, a plus.
Full field, with the six above starting.
We rode pretty decently, got in several moves, most everyone had at least a few good turns at the front.
Felt bad about starting what ended up being a chase-down of a move Jim was in going for the KoM. There was a group several seconds ahead as we approached the hill. I didn't see him up there, and the field was starting to go wide, so I rolled off the front, and when I saw he was up there, I soft-pedaled, hoping slow down the chase. (Sorry Jim!) It's a pity. Jim could have scored some points and worked a decent gap. (Yacks, I was trying to say "don't! Jim's up there")
On the amusing side, Alan Buday of Dave Jordan, who was in the polka dots, didn't get team help and was reduced to yelling harsh criticism at his teammates because he didn't score in either KoM effort.
one of the big problems in the race was everyone was fixated on not letting yellow jersey John Loehner escape. And to compound things, John Loehner just wanted to rip people's legs off. He should have waited for a break to get some space and then gone for it.
All the same, can't let him go, so I followed him a few times on attacks. I was happy to work with him, but others weren't.
Seeing this, I made the energy-wasting decision to keep going after we were caught, hoping that others were satisfied they had brought him back.
Yack did a great job riding up to the front, immediately before the hill going into the finish. It was awesome getting that kind of help. Only Brand's is even more disciplined at riding their tempo at the front. I slotted in behind Chris Loehner, knowing he's their guy, then alongside Juan Pineda going up the hill. Thought I was in great position. But when the surge came over the top, I didn't have enough, so I faded.

As far as Buday and the KOM competition...really? Sniping at your teammates? I can tell you that going for those jerseys is extremely stressful. It's sounds silly but for some reason the notion of losing a jersey is psychologically painful. Everyone in the race knows you had it ...then you didn't. That is an ear piercing shame bell... You need team support but you also need to seal the deal when the cards are in your favor.
Buday didn't need his team for one of those KOM's. He needed to get out of his saddle and go take those points...Instead I saw him sitting 3rd wheel, with a gap on the field, getting a nice draft and trying to take a magic carpet ride to the top

I was sick all weekend and into the early part of the week. Man, that took a toll on my race yesterday. I definitely wasn't fully recovered for that effort.

I've always found it takes about 4 races to feel comfortable on my bike at the beginning of a season...The first 4 races are ugly and uncomfortable...like watchin old people shagJohnPowell said:I was sick all weekend and into the early part of the week.
