my plan: one bottle of perpetum, one bottle w/ enduralytes- 3 hammer gels. 1 bar.
Man this thread is blowing my mind. I just eat regular solid food.

Spot on. Maybe this type of stuff works for an epic event - race 2-3 "A races" a year type of mentality, but not for the folks who race most weekends from March - December. I'd shoot myself if I had to drink perpetum for breakfast every weekend!

I sometimes worry about the emergence of the nutritional industrial complex. This thread seems to confirm it.

Eisenhower warned about that complex, didn't he?
Gotta keep up with the trends

3) Have the meals 2-3 days prior to your event all planned out.

In doing so, you’ll ensure your body has what it needs for your event and the tank is “topped off” so to speak. We see so many athletes “wing it” and then wonder why they bonk or get dizzy or feel lethargic on race day.

To make planning easier, stick with foods you already know you like and won’t create any stomach distress. Stay away from foods with a high saturated fat content, or high fiber content. You’ll always want to match up a carb with a protein - stick to a 2:1 or 3:1 carb to protein ratio so insulin is in check and blood sugar stays stable. And yes, I’m recommending you cook it ahead of time! Pack your lunch, pull a pre-made dinner meal out of the freezer, plan your breakfast for race day and get up an hour earlier to give it plenty of time to digest. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself!

No need to overthink it, but do keep in mind that “failing to plan is planning for failure.”

I think this is great advice, but I think the better advice is to get into a pattern where all your meals are healthy year round, and moderately up the carbohydrate intake the few days before the race.

No more Burger King Joe.

I think you mean "lots more Burger King, Joe."

I hit up fast food periodically to make sure my body and brain can handle the junk.  Never know when that will come in handy.  After all, failing to plan is planning for failure.

Good luck guys!

Cat 4 Crüe - can we meet at the start/finish at around 10.20 to chat a bit?  I'd like to see where everyone is at in terms of realistic goals, expectations, etc.  Best laid plans will inevitably shatter as always, but it's nice to know who we can look to for various roles, etc.

Really getting psyched for this!  Above all else, I plan to have fun.

My number: 718-812-1358
Keep an eye on Adam Myerson's twitter. He is Pre-driving and reporting on conditions.
Good luck everyone and have a great time.

Hey dumb question...what's with the "finals" on Sunday? Top (?) placers from the Saturday races, suit up again to race on Sunday?

Good luck everyone!
Thanks for all your support!

Top 8 in each field get to duke it out on Sunday - free entry.  If there's room, other finishers can race for $10.

At least that's the deal in the 4's.
Joe, Bruce and I ate the ideal pre-race dinner... Aka Chili's aka the Food of Champions.
I went down coming out of the first covered bridge. My front wheel just slid out. Lame. Ripped my shoe straight off the cleat. Actually, the cleat stayed on the pedal. I was fine, but my race was over just as it was about to get good. Hoping I'm the only one with bad luck.
that sucks Vlad! Really sorry to hear that.

You'll feel better when you get your FBF fix tomorrow.
Vlad! That's some shitty luck, man.
No live coverage of Battenkill is bullshit.

Seriously dudes...5:30 and not even a tweet? You can write up your epic tales in full later, how about some quick highlights?

Dude you ain't that old. Learnz your twitter. There are lots of tweets!
Alyosha finished 10th place in his field.
2nd hand summary:
Vlad slid out just after the covered bridge (mile 6) and broke his shoe. Pride and the shoe are the only damage.

The 3's were repeatedly neutralized resulting in a 40 man sprint; Joe 19th Ryan 24th

Adam 4th in his field?

Tito rocked the climbs but was dropped midway.

Hubs, Aly, Jeff, Mark, Ros yet to report.

Myerson 5th FWIW

Looks like a Waffles & Dinges guy took 3rd in the 5's

Ahhhh...the twiterrati...I'm at work and just poking into my email on the sly between pts...thanks though for the updates!

Good job everyone. 40-person sprint at Battenkill...who would have thought?

Damn you Battenkill! OTB. muddy climb and I drifted to the ass end of the race, got behind someone who locked it up and that was that. Chased my ass off and we got close to getting back when the field was neut'd the second time. Took brief pleasure in sprinting in the 15 or so cramping FGX, Foundation, Black TIe, 6cycles Macgrubers for 130th. What else? Cursed out a 6cycle guy for barging in, who then crashed on the first gravel section (cue trombone). Enjoyed a a Scratch Labs + Endurolyte per hour cramp-free ride. Drank a gallon of chocolate milk in 30 seconds. There were a ton of French speaking peoples there—Alyosha could you detect the brackish Montrealian accent?
Big thanks to Thierry for sorting the accomo (can I PayPals?), Dan for his expert driving and Alyoshas for his Bronski Beat!?
Cramp-less Battenkill that finished in a 49 man sprint? Was this the same race even?
