Hey Kissena peeps!

As your 2020 PR guy I will try to do more content through out the year
With that said I will try keep on taps of what pictures you guys are posting in the forums and social media to post on insta.

Also I will go through old images in the forum for some fun #TBT and #FBF for online stories.
I will try to tagged you for credits, if I missed any tag feel free to DM me on slack or better yet instagram.

I would also encouraged to take few pics in every event if you can. Like I said more content the better!
I will filter through them accordingly, plus race season is coming up fast, winter will be over soon... AND I NEED TO SEE PROOF OF YOUR CYCLING TAN!  B)

Thanks
Do slack me if you think there's a cool stories that I should share online!

@Kevin Man I took some photos during the CX season with my dSLR. I don't use IG or anything like that.

Here is a link with the Kissena tag, and if you click on the large thumbnails you go to the photo. Once at the photo, in the upper left hand corner, the box with the opposing arrows, you can select display size. If you would like to use any of the pics, please ask.

Wondering if the purple and gold is kissena old kit? Gonna post a tbt bit don't wanna post fake news!
I believe it is the old Kissena kit.
@mugwump probably knows the history best at this point but there was a schism at one point with Kissena Cycling and Kissena Sports being two entities - one more "pro" than the other.
Well I posted it... Ill take the "fake' news hit if it so... But then again it was 2 decades ago  ;)
Trevor the rider leading Charlie is totally Kissena. YES THE PURPLE KIT IS KISSENA. All caps worthy.

The issues with Kissena Sports and Kissena Cycling Club happened much later. @mugwump would need to confirm, other than one rider, not sure there was an actual Sports team.
Is it true about Gorge Hincapie being a KCC???
Is it true about Gorge Hincapie being a KCC???
Yes. George Hincapie and his brother Ricky rode for KCC for years.
Did Charlie I go by Chas??
Did Charlie I go by Chas??
Not that I remember.

I'm pretty sure I was in that Cambria Heights race.  Riding for Ramapo Valley, as I did in those days.

Charlie I, Rich and George Hincapie, John and Chris Loehner, Trevor Silvera, a few others came through Kissena in the 1980s.

Charlie, Rich, George moved on to Mengoni by '91.  John moved on to TCBY then Saturn, then turned pro.  Chris briefly rode for Toga.  Trevor did as well.

The Kissena jersey in the pic was around in the early 90s, and had a few similar iterations into 2001 perhaps.  I've got one that was used 98-2000, and another for 2001-2.

The Kissena schism started in 2000.  Complicated story.  Essentially, the guy running the club, Greg Avon lost interest in most of the club, save the elite team, which had only one or two "local" guys, one of whom was Bill Innes, who was from Queens but lived in Colorado much of the year back then (He's now the US National Team Junior coach).  Others included Peter Mazur of Canada but was from Poland, who briefly rode as a pro, and sometimes represented Poland at the World Championships.  There were a number of Canadians on the team--Alex Lavallee, Nat Faulkner, Tim Hadfield.  There was a New England guy as well, Sean Nealy, who had been junior national champ.  There were a few guys who lived in the area who didn't get the same level of support--Keith Miller and Eneas Freyre, and another who pretty much did his own thing, Tony Taylor.  Kissena Sports was Greg's way of still having the Kissena name but doing a bare-bones pro team.  They briefly existed as a pro team, partially under the Kissena Sports banner, one year as Cra Z Soap.

They kept adding and subtracting riders depending on the race.  Here's one of their lineups.  https://www.cyclingnews.com/teams/2003/lemond-fitness-cra-z-soap/

I think this is Bill Innes struggling at the San Franciso GP in 2003 riding for Car Z Soap

We need to do a throwback purple gold kit! 🔥🔥🔥

So Greg Avon own or run Kissena? Was it not a volunteer based club back then?

It was purple/gold/orange/pink.

He was a volunteer president.  And it was a volunteer board.  I think it was just the vision he had. I don't know where money actually came from or who was getting anything. It seemed like Bill and a few guys were given bikes and helmets and some clothes, and it seemed like they must have gotten entry fees and not sure what else.  R&A might have given some cash and/or product, but that was probably at least partially due to Tony Taylor working at R&A.

I don't know how the Canadians ended up on Kissena.  I should have asked.  Come to think of it, I should ask some of the guys I'm still in touch with about that.
I would love to see a retro kit reissue.

This is a really interesting subject and clearly one which is worth sharing. On a whim (last night whilst thinking about new skills I wanted to learn) I decided that I would like to try my hand at creating a podcast.

Topics such as the history of road cycling in NYC would be something that would be great to cover if there was enough info and people willing to share their tales from back in the day...?
There is a treasure trove of colorful folks in that town with amazing stories.
Hold my bidons... One retro kit design coming up!

Also yes to the podcast! Maybe do one when @mugwump do his training talk!

I'll PR the shit out of it!
@mugwump retro colors with modern twist?!?!

I have way too much time in my hands. 😂

I would buy this kit post haste.
I like better the first one with most purple.

Both are awesome.
Uh, there is no purple in the team colors. The colors are from the flag of Brooklyn, I believe.

That's John Campo.

I have one of those jerseys.  And the next iteration as well.

don't understand why Greg Avon totally banished the orange.
Hey Guys!

I hope every one is doing well!
I want see if some of you want to contribute at home contents.
It'll be cool to showcase stories of how we are doing during these times.

If you want to participate, be cool if you can take at least 3 pics (preferably at least your trainer set up, or selfie on the trainer) the other two can be random, like your cats, what you've baked, jig saw puzzles... ETC.

Pls post them here, and I will post accordingly.
Might do a high school style collage if we end up with alot of pics!

Thanks, stay safe... Don't elbow people in zwift!

same.

Another thing to think about is this classic Kissena kit, probably 80s vintage, but the photos are probably from 2010 or so.
