Let's start with the likelihood that Mohoric is used to riding with 160/140mm rotors. He's familiar with how hard he has to squeeze the brake levers to get X stopping power.
So, with larger rotors, the leverage point moves out by 10mm, an increase of 14%. Thus he should get more stopping power, if all other things are equal (pads, rotor material) for the same amount of squeezing force.
It's possible that he squeezed as hard as he might have with the smaller rotors, as hard as he thought he could squeeze before losing traction. But that squeeze resulted in more stopping force on the rotor, thus overwhelming traction.
