Diamond Mountain Road Race

Anyone interested in this road race on Sept 22 in Harriman?

Men's Cat 4/5 would be 3 laps of this route; 3/4 would be 4 laps, P/1/2/3 would be 5.

That’s the standard “Bear Mountain” course — it’ll conflict with cx but otherwise this is a world class course

— one consideration is how good this promoter will be at keeping the full loop safe and traffic free?
One of these years I'll do this race..

Note that it doesn't go up the typical Bear Mountain climb.

what about... this year? :)

Haha.  I'll be up in Vermont that weekend regretting my decision to do an overnight ultra race.
Was thinking about doing it but worried about the climbing
I'd be down if I'm in town.
There is a race tomorrow am i am trying to late register for: https://www.bikereg.com/66915, it looks like the same course. At $140 it's pretty pricey though.

Busses from GAP & Strictly, spots still available.
There are significant amounts of advice and reports on this course at the bear mountain classic thread:

I am considering signing up for the 4/5 race of this
Do it.
There is also a TT race of the course in the afternoon after the road races if you don't want to mix it up with the field.

In case you want to ease into it, Grant is hosting a group ride up in Greenwich same day.
Late notice but I saw this email come in from Alex who's organizing the race.

“Good evening everyone,

I’m excited to announce a special flash sale for the Diamond Mountain Classic! We’re offering 10 spots at a 33% discount—first come, first served. Use code “LuckyFriday” at checkout before the day is over to secure your discounted entry.

As a bonus, here’s a message from Matt Unterman(Instagram: @munterman1), who’s planning a 24-hour challenge at Kissena Velodrome:
"It would be great if you want to join for a ride-along (even an hour or so) during my 24-hour attempt at Kissena. My goal is to set up around midday on Saturday, 9/21, and start the 24 hours at 2 PM, finishing at 2 PM on Sunday, 9/22."

Have a great weekend and stay safe!

Best regards,
Alex Kochatau
Race Director”

There seems to be frustration with people only registering at the last minute for races. (I’m not sure if it’s always been like this). I guess they have to invest a lot in setting this up and with late registrations there’s increased risk.

ha yea, i am still debating registering. It's a chicken and egg situation I think.  Only 12 folks registered for the 4/5's so I was going to wait a bit to see if that fills out, but everyone is probably doing that too
I am going to skip out on this one after all the hot air... sorry about that!

Max,  There are lots of late registrants for local races these days.  It's a great course regardless of the size.
I would like to sign up, just trying to figure out my transport situation.  @KevinWomack you are out with the wedding weekend I presume?

Yep, wedding for me I'm afraid, poor planning on my part I know. You should totally do it if you can get transport sorted, looks like nice weather Sat.

I did sign up for Randall's Island Crit on the 29th.
Anyone in for this race this year? I’m thinking about it again, looking at transport

Very tempted - you're going to be rocking the 4/5 or the 3/4?
I think 4/5? It’s ~42 miles of racing vs ~56. Having not done a race like this before I already think 42 will be a challenge as is. Wdyt? Pace-wise I have no concept of how different a 3/4 vs 4/5 would be. I expect both will be hard
the difference on this course between the 4/5 and 3/4 will be dramatic.
Most of this advice applies:

I think I will feel better DFL in 4/5 😎
I am hoping to race the 3/4 field for this but haven't signed up yet.

I've got some weird pain/injury fit related stuff that is becoming a big nuisance and is the only reason I have yet to reg.  Hopefully can fix that in the next few days- will make a decision by end of week
I’m still half in on this. I may have to travel to the UK for work the night following this race, idk but that has me apprehensive about crushing myself in stony point. Maybe it would confirm that I will sleep through the flight, though.  B)
If you all are still in I'm happy to stretch my legs and see what we can do even if it ends up as a TTT. I may be out super late the night before (thank Myles) so uh, might be rough around the edges.
Let's do it
Rock and roll, Blake and I will be lining up for the 4/5 field. Anyone else wants to join in on the fun?
I am in for the 3/4
