2012/03/10: Grant's Tomb Criterium Cat 3 Race from matthew vandivort on Vimeo.
Grant's Tomb Criterium
If anyone on Kissena ever makes a video of themselves racing and sets it to music like that, they can expect to wake from their slumber one night - in their bunk in team housing in the woods of Vermont or upstate NY - to find themselves being pummeled by socks with bars of soap in them.
(Probably compression socks. And they might have like, Cliff Bars in them or something instead of soap. But you'll get the message!!)
But that video is embarrassing. Not only is it a horrid mashup that ruins a good Black Sabbath song, if I recall correctly, SixCycle isn't exactly elite in their performances (despite the grandiosity of the narcissistic lyrics). And given the chance, they always sandbag in a 3/4 race instead of 123. F'n lame. Plus, that guy has a "spartacus" wanna-be bike. Dude, you're not Cancellara. Cover that paint job with tape.

Posted By: Ryan JAre you f-ing serious with that music?!Yeah, Kissena should never be associated with that music... https://player.vimeo.com/video/33851644 ...oh wait, we already are.

I'm sorry that Nataniel, Joe, and Dan got cast in the video and you didn't. I know you really wanted that part as the girl in the blue shirt pole dancing with the street sign. You'll get the next one.
Hmmmm
Seems to me there's a difference between (A) humorously appearing for a matter of seconds in a professionally produced and directed music video that you were asked to be in, and which has nothing to with cycling and (B) strapping two cameras on your bike and sound designing in some (as Owens put it) grandiose and narcissistic lyrics and music.
(here, let me save you the trouble)
They say some days you're gonna win
They say some days you're gonna lose
I tell you I got news for you
Your losin' all the time you never win
(That's from an LP not an 8-track)
Can't believe I'm paying for races already.
... here we go.
GTC now has a 5 field? Yikes.
This sounds like a recipe for broken collarbone soup.

Don't worry! you have plenty of legs and lungs which will enable you to stick at the front.
I think anyone who can do the pre-Grant's ride, should. JP, Marc et al are a wealth of knowledge about how to do well in this race. A number of other Kissenas have kicked serious tail as well and will have solid advice.
Brendan, Mark, Rick et al - I didn't mean to be snarky or scare you about the race. You have a great club that will guide and support you beforehand, so you'll do great.
FYI, pending approval from the board, I'm going to have a pre-ride of the course, about 1 week or so before the actual event, where we discuss tactics and handling...also I will be onsite all day to be DS of the day, helping/coaching riders in all categories get ready and race. I'll let you know times/dates ASAP.
- gather jackets at start line
- "Eye Of The Tiger" - a cappella
- yell "get in your drops!" a lot
- backrubs, creepy and regular versions

Don't be "embarrassed." Visualization is a totally legit and effective way of approaching many endeavors with success. You are effectively laying out a map in your mind, so that when you get to the course, you'll already have a level of familiarity with it that will free up brain space for other things like, cornering, drafting, etc.Crit racing is as mentally demanding as it is physical.
And besides, you haven't seen Malcolmson's posts of PP satelite imagery with wind forecast arrows drawn in...that's a dude who should be embarrased. Except he kind of kicks ass...so he gets away with such high level geekery!
