Have you ever been interested in the glamorous lifestyle of a USA Cycling official? NYSBRA is running an official training program. Alan Atwood will be leading these sessions.

Members interested in learning more about USA Cycling rules are encouraged to attend an upcoming Introductory Officials Clinic and obtain a level C Road/Track and Mountain Bike Officials License. With the support of NYSBRA (New York State Bicycle Racing Association), an Introductory Officials Clinic is scheduled for April 18th and 19th. There is no charge to attend.

Rulebooks will be provided. Basic instruction in road, track, cyclocross, and mountain biking officiating will be given. There will be an open book test following the clinic. Please bring a check payable to USA Cycling or a credit card to be sent in with the application for an official’s license. Please indicate your interest as soon as possible to allow time to acquire class materials.

The clinic will be hosted on 2 days, Monday 4/18 and Tuesday 4/19 from 6pm-9pm each evening at 1633 Broadway (50th & Broadway) New York, NY.

Dear Racers,

My name is Eric Ragot and I am running for the at-large director of the USA Cycling Cyclocross Sport Committee.

I think it is important to consider experience and consistency in cycling at every level when choosing representatives for the national governing body. I bring such experience to the table; in every capacity from racer, coach, official, promoter, and local association governance.

Since I started riding and racing in 1998, I have gotten involved in helping the sport and “giving back” from day one. The experience and consistency is found in my role within the Kissena Cycling Club and the cycling community in general. I aim to continue to be active in my club, but to expand further my role within the cycling community, but now at a national level.

I entered the sport as a wide eyed newbie and within three months, promoted three club championship races for the club. As I continued to ride for Kissena (and still do), I found myself assuming more leadership including becoming President and leading the club back from its moribund state to an energetic and vigorous club. In the time since, I remain involved, given a career and family life, as a member of the board of directors and as treasurer. So, I’ll admit, the Kissena Cycling Club matter to me as I remain committed to its current and long term welfare and growth and I am the longest continuously serving officer and director on the club – 12 years and counting.

So, how do I give back to the cycling community? Well, I have helped cast my role and Kissena’s role as the someone and a club respectively, who keep cycling alive in New York City. Not long after becoming active within Kissena, I stepped in to promote the long-running race series in Prospect Park that was in danger of shutting down. At first I promoted the races and then found responsible people to take over. Similarly, when our old local cyclocross series was in trouble, I found the volunteers necessary to keep the races going. Unfortunately the venue was lost, but we keep trying to find new ones.

When local riders needed coaching, I have offered coaching advice even while racing and training on an elite amateur level. When it comes to cyclocross, I did my first race at a Vince Menci race in Bridgewater, NJ and had so much fun in the sloppy mud, I was hooked. Two years later, I was teaching people the basics of cross, and ten years later, I count over a hundred people that I have coached through cross clinics. I don’t stop teaching them and they don’t stop coming.

I am also the NYC representative on the New York State Bicycle Racing Associating board of directors. In that capacity, I am responsible for representing NYC’s interests on a state-wide level. I also administer the category upgrade procedure for NYC too, and given that NYC has about one-half of New York state’s licensed bicycle racers, it is quite the volunteer opportunity.

So, I offer experience and consistency to represent the best interests of the racers, officials, promoters and spectators of cyclocross. In sum, the at-large representative is the perfect position given my background. Please vote.

I'm counting on you man: lower my taxes, spend more on weird stuff I care about, bomb more 3rd world people into the 4th world, don't get caught with a dead hooker in a motel room, strut around or on all military equipment, mispronounce foreign names, eat meat, get your dog a cool nickname, give the VP a shitty nickname, never apologize, never explain, drill or excavate the crap out of some place our grandchildren won't miss, like the Louvre or Athens...

I blame god for Washington's behavior in causing earthquakes and hurricanes.

It's good not to be liked by the NYVelocity forum trolls. THey're so consistently negative and dismissive that I'd worry if you were liked.

How many positions are folks being presented to vote for ?

When i go to vote, it shows me Mountain, Road, and Cross.

Mtn and CX have the "At Large Trustee" position under them (and nothing else) and Road has no positions listed.

Is this due to what groups I am a member of ? I don't expect to votes for masters or college or whatever, but i am surprised not to be able to vote for coachs or race directors.

i have cast my vote for mr. ragot. and yet, i've never ridden cyclocross, and know nothing about it. or to put it another way, i was as informed as the average american nosepicker participating in a national election.

at any rate, it was the "blame god for washington's behavior" platform that swayed me. ragot/perry/bachmann 2012 (slogan: "we're fast, bi-laterally stiff, and evolutionarily non-compliant").

@joe. You can't vote for a coach unless you are one. The at large positions are open to all for voting.

And if you haven't voted already, please consider voting for my coach and friend for years and years, Al Gandolfi. I know he hasn't written a statement, but he's really good people.

Voting is really simple, log in to your USA Cycling Account and vote. I was only given one election to vote in (cyclocross) and voting for Ragot took me less than 1 minute. Go do it!
