Prospect Park Weekday Morning Training

I haven't been because it has been dark and cold. I was thinking of kicking off on April 1. The sun isn't rising until 6:40 but a 6AM meet-up will be light enough to not run into each other in the dark.
I'm with Dan. Too dark and cold right now. April 1 seems like a good target but if we have a stretch of awesome weather before then I'll come out.
I just started to ride mornings again when I can and am usually at gap at 7.15am, earlier when it gets lighter.
Watt machine is is the house!
I will be posting morning group workouts starting April 1. Until then, there isn't a consistent group and part of the idea isn't just to have workouts posted, but to have a group working together. Teamwork, pushing yourselves harder, getting to know each other and refine technique, etc...

I don't want to start a cycle of workouts only to have one group start now and then another April 1 and have to be trying to coordinate 2 different groups.

Until then, if you're riding: One day per week sprints, one day time trials, one day endurance riding. Openers the day before you race and on the weekends, try to get rides in.

Here we go.
Meet at gap at 6.
Tuesday .
Warm up for a lap and a bit as a group. On the second go round, hang the left in the middle of the hill and take center drive back to the main loop.

The at the stop light at the base of the hill, do a one minute interval up the hill. The settle into a pace that is just a bit more than easy. Keep the pace through the short loop you used for warmup. Then do it again. Keep repeating for one hour.

You should get about 6 or 7 in. Ride more if you have time.

Wednesday.
Time trial day.
Warmup for a lap and more to get back to the start line. When you get there, start a two lap effort. Time it. Then rest for a lap. The do another two lap effort. Timed of course. Your goal here is to get comfortable with the distance and effort levels.

Thursday.
Warm up the do a group ride focusing on pace lines and being smooth. Talk race tactics.

Friday.
Openers.
3 one minute efforts with 5+ min recovery in between. Then 3 30sec efforts with the same (5+ min) amount of recovery.

Enjoy.

I can't wait to do 1 minute intervals up the hill tomorrow. Clear and 33 for the morning workout, See you guys all at GAP at 6AM, BYOBB*

If you're thinking "I want to go for the L&C Cup KOM" or even "What is it like to do a KOM leadout?" this is the perfect workout to teach your body how that effort is going to feel.

I'm in.  See you at 6.
Setting my alarm early and hoping I don't hit the snooze button.  I want to barf, barf like a freshman at a kegger.
Just sitting down to a late dinner after being out of town all weekend so I'm going to miss tomorrow morning but I'll be there on Wednesday for the TT efforts and going forward. Come on out y'all.
had to work till.....now (12:45 a.m.) but i may see you out there if I can motivate on zero sleep....i'll be doing my usual tempo, and yelling motivational epithets as you pass me on the uphill intervals (you call that GAS Reiners??)
This week isn't looking good for me, but I will be out a little later -- probably around 7:30 -- tomorrow, Thursday, and Friday. I'm hoping to start the 6am routine the week after.
It was frigid this morning, but totally worth the achy legs. nothing like a brisk morning to wake you up.
Slept right through the alarm this morning.  Looking to join in tomorrow.
Thanks for the support today, Dan.  Very cold, and I think that hill got a little steeper, but it was good to be out riding.
I am sorry I am not going to make it this morning I have this cough that is not going to be compatable with a TT today. See you tomorrow hopefully.
Please update the thread with reports of how things went.
Eric,
It went well!!!
Four of us this morning: Me, Bruce, Thierry, and Jim? (sorry still learning names).  Cold and some cross winds coming in from the west.

Easy lap from GAP.

- TT #1 (2 laps).  We lost Jim somewhere by the end of it.
- Rest lap
- TT #2 (2 laps for me and Thierry; 1 lap for Bruce who had to bounce).  I lost a full minute between set #1 and 2, 19:36 v 20:34.  Need to learn consistency and not overcook the first time around.

We split up by then and I saw Thierry exit the park.  I cooled down for a half lap and the ride home.

Oh, we also had a wheel sucker in major taylor kit.  I gave him a name.

Wasn't me. I wimped out and rode the trainer instead.
it's way too cold out there for April.  I ain't coming out in the morning till it's closer to 35-40 at 6 am....
Re: Major Taylor -- it was probably Eddie Burlem. He's in the park pretty much every AM and I've noticed that every once in a while he'll ride just a little bit behind the group / but not really close enough to draft.

...finally I now realize the upside to being "The Lanterne Rouge" on Kissena weekday AM rides –– I get to see what other riders are doing!  ;)
It was good this morning, nice and cold... I was burnt by lap 2, was up most of last night with the 4 month old. See you guys tomorrow.
Nice.  The intervals yesterday were great, but this morning just wasn't happening.  I'm in for tomorrow though.
Jay!  It was Jay!  Sorry, Jay!  Staying up with an infant is a legit excuse to fat out and sleep in.

@Jef K - Sounded like he was right on my wheel for at least the entire final lap of set 1.  I fell apart around the finish line before the hill and Thierry caught up and passed me around then.  MT guy passed me too and shot up the hill with him.

Not that he had much wheel to suck on with me...
It was Eddie, and he shaved his beard since the last time I saw him at Branchbrook- getting ready for spring, I suppose.
It was a good couple of laps with some vicious wind.  I need to find a way so that I don't have to work anymore; my job is interfering with this bike stuff. . .
Confirming I'll be at GAP tomorrow at 6.  Looking forward to doing some solid riding (where I'm not breathing so hard in the cold air, I sound like a heavy smoker the rest of the day).
Eric, when are you coming out to play?

I can't come out to play when I leave for work at 6:15.

End of June vacation starts, so I can get up early and lead the reindeer games. Though, by that point, you'll all be frolicking on your own because the training isn't meant to be together. Sprints and short efforts are the exception. Group rides too - obviously.

Bit of good pace line practice this morning. Watched the other guys ride up the hill after a few laps and headed out of Grand Army to be home by 7.
Sorry that I could not make it this morning. My gastro-intestinal tract is singing the blues.
