this seems cool. 7:35 for 4s is early with travel, though it'd be nice to do a crit.

the windows. A break with four guys went at the gun. two dropped off as I tried to bridger up.i worked with them, but they were not strong enough. Went back to the field. I tried again but was solo and bit making time. Eventually a chase of three went. they were holding about 15 seconds. it then cook me too lapsto bridge . I went to attack at the end and they all expected it from me. my legs hurt, I tuck third in the chase group.

that bridge hurt like you would not believe.

Congrats to Eric R. for placing in the money in the 3 race!

Now a non-phone report:

The course: a flat, fast park loop w/ 2 not-so-sharp left-handers and a bit of a rise through a back S-curve section.

Jim & I lined up about 3rd row back as the only two Ks in the field. Our plan: quickly wind things up with a series of early attacks and counters. The group was friendly, with plenty of joking around before the start. At the gun, things were off to a rocky start as the rider in front of me, head down, struggled to find his pedals as he drifted back through the charging group. After finding my way through the field, I saw two riders begin to roll off the front -- a Colavita junior and another young (CRCA?) rider. I slotted into an opening moving up the right side, with the intention to go to the front, set tempo, and keep an eye on the two dangling off the front. As they continued to pull away, I decided to bridge up, saying "all right guys, let's go together", hoping we'd share the break for a while. After a few elbow flicks and "ok, pull through"s it became clear they weren't quite ready to go, so not long after the first turn I decided to gun it, take my chances and pick my own line through the turns. Once I had established a bit of a gap, I told myself to just stay in the drops and churn a big gear. At both turns spectators were calling out splits and with a little over 20 minutes in, I had 35 seconds on the field. When the lap counter rolled from 0 to 5 remaining laps, I heard "55 seconds" and that was the first time it occurred that we might just win this race. The hurt was on pretty good by this point and for the last 5 laps I just tried to stay on top of the gear, pedal a smooth stroke, and pick the shortest line around the course. Just before the last turn on the bell lap, I sat up, straightened my jersey then rolled into the finish line.

Thanks to Jim Nelson for selflessly setting tempo and disrupting chase in the field, which allowed me to stay away. It's truly an honor to have such a great group of teammates. A great weekend for the Ks all around!

Very cool. Congratulations Rich and Eric. Good to know that all that Computainer time over the winter was not for naught. : )

The view from the pack. On the ride out Rich and I had both felt pretty good and since we were the only ones pre-reged with a teammate we thought we might as well try and put the hurt on. We planned to take turns attacking and as Rich described above he got the first chance about 15 seconds after the whistle. When I saw that he was going to make a go of it I immediately put myself at the front of the pack and did my best to slow things down and jump on anything that rolled past. By 15 minutes in we couldn't see Rich and the splits were steadily going up. About 20 minutes in a couple guys were dangling off the front and a couple others tried to bridge up so I took that ride figuring they weren't going to make it to Rich and if they did they would have both of us to deal with. That move held for a lap or so then we were back together again and the general mood seemed to be that it was now a race for 2nd. The race started heating up again with 2 to go and I found myself feeling the effort of covering the moves earlier. I tried once more to slide off the front to see if we could 1-2 em but no go. Finished in the pack with a huge grin on my face.

Congrats to Rich on an awesome ride. And with Eric getting 4th in the 3's with his impressive bridge, the orange and blue gained some serious respect in central jersey this morning.

Nice work Rich & Eric! Rich so not only can you sprint you can solo like a madman too!

Allrighty, gents, sticking with my plan for "more crits in 2012" I'm in for the old-guys edition of this race.

I guess I'll have to do the double then.

Liberty cycles has 9 of 20 people pre regd in my field, haha. Should I bother pre reg'ing? No day of late fee, and I don't think it's going to fill.
