Yeah you caught that.
Jules can you change thread title to just rah way crit?
I might like to go. 45+ could be good for me.
I'm in

I'm going. May need a ride there and back. Not sure yet. Anyone going with an extra seat- hit me up.
any cat5s in for this?
Rahway is on a NJ Transit line, so people can take the train and then ride.

But there's an oh-so-exciting first FBF of the season in the Spring Series the same day.

It's worth noting that, with exactly one 90 degree turn, the curvy flowing course rides more like a Branchbrook park circuit race than a technical crit. This may make it more, or less, appealing to you.

Have fun out there guys.

I can't race - no fields for me.

note, when all the nj teams were watching each other last year, right before that 90* turn is when I jumped solo and rode away on the bell lap. You can get jammed in there when it counts, that turn feeds into the finishing straight.
Depending on Battenkill exhaustion level, I'm down for this 35+ and 3 race.

Same here
I'll be driving from brooklyn. If someone has a bike rack I have room.

I'll be heading out for the 4 race and maybe sticking around for the 35+. Leaving Park Slope about 6:00. I've got room for 3 more bikes.
I am leaving at 8 from park slope. I have room for one more. I'm not coming back to park slope after though. I'm going to the upper west side.
Andy in break just lapped field!
Andy won the sprint!!!!!! Aaaaaaaaaaah
Wow I thought I'd give the live update. Joe is really quick...
Cat 3 RR:

Start with Vlad attacking from the whistle. Dan countered, I countered. After about 30 minutes of that Craig made a great attack.

Sprinkle some blocking in.

And you get Craig taking second from the break!

Good jorb all.
45+ field of about 40.
Group of 3 or 4 goes on 2nd or 3rd lap. Doesn't go far and no one seems too concerned. Couple of laps later there's a big attack from Mengoni with big reaction from Liberty and Colavita. I know this is it. The field splits trying to cover it. I dangle in no mans land for a lap and watch a small group roll off the front of the front group. Eventually the field comes back together, bu the break is gone. I actually attack several  times over the next 30 min and end up in short lived moves, but cannot actually get away. It was easy to get a gap on the sharp turn into the uphill wind. I think this is where Andy got away. We get lapped with 2 to go. Field sprint ensues, which was meaninglessness for most of us. Fun, safe race with a course that was harder than it looks. Short train ride to Rahway making  it great to get out of the city. And my new carbon tubulars felt awesome.
35+ report.
I rode long yesterday. I hoped my legs were good. I was chilly before the race and really couldn't bring myself to warm up. Vlad, Dan Strika, Dan Hubbard were my wingmen.

Strong men are here to race the 35+ . Durso, Uradowski, Breech, Ward, Boronow, and others. I stayed alert at the front and got in some moves, but no dice. Then Durso slips off the front solo. I considered going up but decided to wait. When I tried to bridge up, I was plain blocked by Eugene because Breech was in the group. Uradowski and ward plus the NJ TT champ also made it. BOOM! Gone.

I went to bridge but I can't match that firepower but I hoped a group. Would come across and we could chase. The field broke and a group came, but despite Vlad's best efforts we weren't gaining ground. Back together.

We are getting lapped and two guys are off the front a liberty and Gavin Robertson. As the break came to the front of the pack,I went across to the duo. I rode hard, the two were hurting bad but we were staying away. We should have been finishing a lap after the field but after I dropped my companions and got the bell, the field kept coming. I powered in for 6th.

Good legs, just took too long to wake up. The ride portends good things I think.

Eric knows this, but it bears repeating for less experienced crit racers. YOU MUST WARM UP. Legs have to be ready to go, if you want to give yourself the best chance at doing your best. That said, 6th place in that field is NICE.
If this were a target race,I would have warmed up. As it was I just didn't go when I should have, and when I went, it wasn't realistic to make it.

That said, it didn't suck. Great support by Joe, Jim, Hubbs, and the rest of Kissena.
I happened to stumble upon this on FB, http://iamelicurtfuld.wordpress.com/2013/04/14/manny-lopez-memorial-rahway-river-crit-414/

ANDY! Way to kick ass!
Congratz Andy and Craig!
Thanks guys.
 Cat. 4 race report.

Pretty straight forward. Jim goes from the gun and strings things out a bit. In the first couple of laps I went with a few break attempts, but I'm bridging up to guys who don't really have the goods to make them stick.

lap two or three things get a little sketchy around the 90degree turn 1k from the finish and I almost get taken out. I get frustrated and angrily motor across the gap that was formed due to the sketchy turn.... I make it up to that group and ride through them. Next thing I know I'm In a four man break. The break consists of myself, my buddy from Rutgers Paul, Eli from Cosmic, and some Liberty Cycles guy. Honestly the Liberty guy did diddly squat, but he was was the most valuable person in the break on account of his having eight or so guys back in the field. Paul was strong enough and Eli has a big Diesel engine. I did my fair share, and kept finding myself pulling on a particular windy section. The break moves with a good rhythm and tempo and we end up building a sizable gap. By the end of the race we have the field in site. Eli keeps shouting "... Lets lap the field guys come on!". In my head I'm thinking "...no, bad idea, there is one lap left and my odds of beating 3 guys in a sprint are a lot better than trying to duke it out in a field sprint". To avoid making the capture I stop pulling and start setting myself up for the sprint. I figure liberty has nothing left, and I know my buddy Paul doesn't real have too much of a kick. Only guy I'm sweating is the cosmic dude Eli. We come into the last stretch and I'm sitting forth wheel behind Eli. Paul launches the sprint from around 500 meters out. I let Eli move me up and I come around him in the last 100 meters for the win.

Thanks to Jim and Phillip for blocking, i felt super confident knowing you guys were back there holding things down. Jim told me after the race that the field pretty much sat up once we got away aside from a couple of bridge attempts.
Overall I'd say it was one of my best days of racing to date.

Congrats to Craig and Eric. I had to leave half way through the cat 3 race, but as I was leaving I saw what I am assuming was the move that landed Craig his podium spot. From what I saw every one was looking strong.
Thanks guys.

Very good observation about the Liberty "passenger" and his relative value to the break. There are many riders who would get all flustered and do a lot of useless hollering at Liberty to "ride harder."

And just so you know, had you lapped the field, you wouldn't have had to win the field sprint to win the race. BUT you would still have to beat your breakaway dudes...and once you are in the field, it can be harder to keep tabs on them. So yeah, you did the right thing.

Very SMART and strong racing. Keep it up!

So, finally home - post race power analysis:

317NP for 56min.

This is a snapshot of my power and speed for the first 20 minutes of teh race, until the break was established. Look at the peaks. That puppy hurt. Can't decide if it was good or bad that I started Anaerobic work this week!

A couple of pictures from the 3 race and the 4.
