I don't care how many times I see it, but it still makes me shake my head with a "really?" when I see those slammed stems and elbow risers higher than the Sears Tower on TT bikes (e.g. Wiggins')

I have to agree, but I think all TT bikes look like they've been hit with an ugly stick way too many times. They're all weird proportions and UCI rule work-arounds.

I think you're missing the point. The slammed stem and riser make sense. Essentially, it allows the rider to have his horns at a height he feels comfortable and aero on, and still have the aerobars in a fast, efficient position. And considering how most of these guys fold themselves on their aerobars, if they don't have a big differential between their aero bars and their horns, they're probably up too high on their horns.Marc Bertucco said:

He's going downhill and his torso is much higher than it would have been if he had been on the drops of his road bike. A few riders, Cuddles among them, are able to keep a low position when their horns are directly underneath their aero bars, but only a few.

Also...did everyone see how Cavendish-ah veered dramatically off his line in the final 200 meters? Expressly against the rules, however, since he went back left and didn't completely shut the door or hook anyone into the barriers, I think the officials looked past this violation. Letter of the law? Violation. Spirit of the law? Foggy.
And...here's a little shout-out to "JP's Cannondale" (he writes about them for their website) team...they do at least one thing better than anyone else in the peloton. They had the wisdom to take a cue from every geeked out cycling club anywhere and actually put sponsors on their rain jackets.
Not too long ago, most guys were wearing plain black "capes." Now most at least have one logo/team name on them. But Cannondale has done them all one or two better.

From the UCI rulebook:
Sprints
2.3.036 Riders shall be strictly forbidden to deviate from the lane they selected when launching into the sprint and, in so doing, endangering others.
So, Cavendish CLEARLY deviated from his line when launching into his sprint. (I wonder if his left leg is stronger and like a paddler in a canoe, he got pushed to the right with a strong push from his left side).
But, he didn't really endanger others. So if both standards have to be met, then yeah, he didn't break any rule. But still, that dude swung far right...check out the overhead shots of the sprint.
I mean obviously, the UCI officials didn't see anything wrong with the sprint either...I'm just saying...

And waterproof/breathable jackets actually work better in cool and cold weather. Lots of riders are using unlabeled Castelli Gabba jackets--they're stretchy and skin-tight and don't cost as much in drag, though not totally waterproof.. But that's why many riders were in black.
I've heard that someone has finally figured out how to make a sublimatable nylon laminate that works with eVent laminate. Maybe that's what Cannondale has.

I don't want to start another thread....for ToC...but I'm watching today's echelony stage and DAMN. This is some good race spectating! If you have the stage DVR-ed, watch as the echelons form. Very interesting stuff.

I watched that last night, it was impressive to see RS drill it once the crosswind hit the pack and the ensuing scramble to get into the right position. Also have to say that Liggett is a bone head. You'd think that after spending so much time around cycling he would've picked up a few things. His ignorance of some of the most basic stuff is mind boggling and a disservice to the general public because they think he knows what he is talking about.Marc Bertucco said:
