Anyone thirsty?

I'm in for the Cat 4 race unless we want to put together a Masters team for the earlier handicap race.
i would love to head out for this, but i'm stuck on parent duty all-day sunday
I am out. I will try to repeat my performance at the 5-Boro Bike Tour this year, and crush it with <46watts of average power.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to hit this race up, unless I am feeling particularly devastated from Turkey Hill. Riding to FBF and back for a 50 mile race makes a really great training day.
I'll be at this one.
I am in.
Im sined up to race canI give somone my reg because I wont be racing anytime soon
I initially wanted to do this but have decided against it as I'm still sick.

Have fun guys !

I know I'm going to be in minority here, but, I'd like to see Harry stay a 5 until he cracks the podium. Lord knows, Harry is definitely strong enough to make the jump (literally and figuratively), his 2nd at Battenkill was huge, and he's got indefatigable energy that will be a welcome addition to the cat 4 squad. However, I think he might be on the verge of figuring out how to close the deal, and I think he deserves a chance to zip up the jersey and hold his hands high in the air.
I'm in and joining Harry in the 5s. Hopefully, I'll get out on the new bike and figure her out today before tomorrow morning. Is anyone riding down Flatbush to get there tomorrow and want to meet at GAP - Harry?
Staying in philly tonight so no race for the wine for me.
@sir m berg...how'd it go@Turkey?

I'm in tomorrow, though I cannot drink wine :)
harry - not sure if you'll get this but 5:30 seems early for a 8:45 start. I'll see you at the race.
I'll be there as well. Will wait at GAP for a couple of minutes at 7:30 if anyone wants company riding out.
Sorry, I've got to skip this one guys. Bring home some wine!
This was a fun race. Lined up with Joji and probably 50 other guys in the 4 field. There was a moderate tailwind through the finish line. Got in a second-lap (of 11) move with Roy from NYVelocity, who was cranking really hard, but it wasn't to be. We were caught after a couple minutes of trading pulls. Took a couple laps to recover, then for the rest of the race I used the stretch after Turn 1 to ride up the left side (completely sheltered from the wind) and wait for something to follow. I couldn't believe all the guys searching for a draft off the wheel in front of them! Hilarious. They probably thought I was sitting out in the wind like a chump. Anyway.

For about 5 laps, there was an unattached guy in black kit and a $20 helmet with a really good gap. The pack mentality went from "Is this real?" to "Yeah, that was real, but now he's been out there alone for too long," so nobody really tried to bridge in earnest. Finally he cracked and began to come back into the fold, and was caught with about three to go. While he was away I followed what I thought were a couple of really strong, promising wheels, but the pack were right on us both times, so nothing came of it.

Chatted with Joji at the back for a bit at this point to see what he thought was happening. He said it would be a sprint for sure, and I said he was probably right, but guys were getting less and less willing to chase, so something might be able to sneak away. So I started to move back toward the front as we passed the finish line with Charlie I. yelling, "two to go!" I did my thing after Turn 1, and got to around tenth wheel. Then the unattached guy in the $20 helmet went AGAIN. Impressive. Unattached guys in $20 fred helmets can really go either way.

I latch onto a couple of Mexico/New York/Different Spokes guys who try to bridge up to him, but they're just stringing the field out. It was hard. It came back together at the end of the crosswind stretch and through Turn 2 into the headwind. Someone else goes, a few guys chase, guys are starting to blow up, folks are desperately seeking shelter from the headwind and it's basically single-file for the first 15 wheels, but with some gaps. I find Roy's wheel again, and he's just steaming ahead for the lead group of three about 15 feet ahead of him. Again, Roy was cranking really hard, and it took a lot just to stay on him. So we make it up to the three guys, and Roy lets up. We are just now taking the first of the two rounded turns toward the finish line, back into the tailwind. I look back and there's about 20 feet or so back to the next rider, but the field is kind of strung out into clumps. Not really together. But also, there was no impetus in our little group of five.

Roy had stopped pedaling as we made the catch, but his momentum brought us just past the group of three we were chasing, and I attacked about, I don't know, 400 meters from the finish. It wasn't a huge attack. I just hopped up and spun out of the saddle for a bit, then settled into the drops. I looked under my arm after around 30 seconds, mostly expecting to see people strung out behind me, but I was solidly away. As I suspected, the chasers seemed a bit reluctant and they hesitated to shut me down. So I powered through the finish line, bell lap, and after the first minute at 400 watts, I just fought to make sure I didn't see anything below 300. I took a peak under my arm again after the finish line, and I had a really nice gap, but as everyone knows, tailwinds tend to magnify the distance of a leader's advantage. So I kept cranking it into turn 1, took a completely abysmal line through it (stupid) and looked back to see what was what without the tailwind exaggerating my advantage.

The gap was definitely smaller, but the worst part was that there were three red jerseys driving hard on the front stringing out the pack (I forget the name of the team). They got me around 2/3 the way down the crosswind section, and so I sat up and let them have their sprint.

It's probably a good thing I didn't stay away, as my finish line plan was to make like I was guzzling wine from the bottle, but I'm sure everyone would have said it looked like I was sucking cock.
Sounds like a good move Jeff. Next time it will work!
Nice work Jeff.
Good race and good reporting Jeff!
It was nice attack Jeff. Though I prepared for the sprint, I failed to keep my position in the pack and nothing good at the finish line... I have to learn from your challenging move.
@Jeff - I saw your attack as you came through on the bell lap. It looked pretty shweet. I admire your boldness. FBF is a great proving ground and it's a NYC course where moves routinely stick.

I raced the P123 with Rene. The field looked about 20-30 deep. With a field that small, I knew it was going to hurt and seeing Charlie next to a lap sign that read 22 was pretty amusing.

So off we go, and I'm going to guess that at about 25 minutes into the punchy strung-out melee, a group of 12 get away. I flat at about 45 minutes and beg the spectators for a wheel (thanks Tony!). I get to watch the break come by. They've got about 90 seconds on the field and 4 Mengoni's in the mix (Brian, Jared, and Eugine) with Augusto flying off the front.

I get back in the group and do a little work to pull a couple moves back. Attrition is setting in and there are fewer places to hide. I pay the price and get dropped at 1:20. I spend the rest of the race (6 laps) doing the bulk of the work in a Mangoseed and Finkraft sandwich. I get to see the break come by as they lap us with 2 to go. It's whittled down to 8, but the Mengoni's are still there and this time Brian is taking the flyer. I decide to attack my two buddies on our -1 bell lap (because hey, why not?) and hold it, finishing not last.

Brian Breach wins the race and the wine (again?). Eugene comes in second. The field comes in more than a minute later with Scott Savory and Ricky Lowe winning the sprint and rounding out the top 10.

It was very cool to watch the Mengoni's attacking the break and crushing their hopes. I look forward to the hard work that it will take to get my fitness, handling skills, and intuition up to the level necessary to hopefully mix it up in a move or two with those guys.

Good times.
Sounds like a great day at the races; awesome read about Whitey's bold and well timed move. I spent the day on planes and rental cars with kids. Max HR was 95.
95! Anxiety or having to sprint for the gate with everyone's luggage (or both)?
im so jelios I was sined up to race than I went down on tue! I cant wait to race again!!!!!!!!
