Can't Miss Races 2012
May 01, 2012 at 03:54 AM
Posted By: Marc BertuccoLOL. For the record, I've never placed anywhere outside of Prospect Park or Floyd as a 3. I've never placed in a cat 3 only race. So yeah, I need to learn how to race on some other roads / courses and actually place before I continue to get slaughtered by those country boy cat 1s.Posted By: mperlbergSandbaggers.Hey so William and I are committed to racing the 3/4s at Turkey Hill this Saturday.

I'm in for this.
To be honest, my winning strategy would be to try to follow Mike's wheel, but that's not much of a team tactic, and I intend to use this as a training race to find some form later this month. SO, consider me a domestique.

I went down on lap one. Really lame. Guy on my left hit a cone and panicked. Laid himself out causing a chain reaction. I had a split second to make a decision, about to attempt a bunny hop until the pile of riders becomes 2 tall.
After fixing my bike up I chased hard for 1.5 laps until the masters field caught me.
Bummer.
To add insult to injury, I took a discarded water bottle to the face while feeding WDC.
WDC finished in the remnants of the bunch but out of the money.
I got nice and drunk last night to help dull the pain. I'm very sore and scraped up but no real damage.

Not much to say from my end. I felt good the first three laps, hanging in the front with WDC. On the forth lap I started to cramp. I took the wall close to the front and dropped back. As I started to chase both calves seized up on me and I couldn't turn the pedals with any intensity. I quickly faded back but still within sight of the peloton. Eventually the sag vehicle passed me and my cramps hadn't subsided. I pulled out after start/finish and watched the rest of the race with Mike.
I had good pre race nutrition and hydration was good. Im going to try Enduralytes as this is happening to me a lot lately. Hopefully that will help.

Yeah - it was extremely hot yesterday - our bodies weren't used to it. I drank three Bottles of mix but was still cramping last two times up the wall and in the sprint.
Overall, a really good race: they gave us the full road for most of the course, whch was nice. Pretty difficult terrain but the positioning game ended up being the funniest part of the rAce. We were neutralized 3 or 4 times to let different fields through, which was weird and only added to the general laziness of my field. I definitely felt pretty foggy throughout the race, and my few attacks were
Chased down really fast by a pack that wanted a sprint. I attacked the field on the last roller with about 2 miles to go, bridging up to a pair of guys who had been dangling for a mile, but we were caught almost instantly. Leading up to the spring we lashed the carnage of a crash in the 123 race. Lots of guys lying on the side of the road. The sprint in my field was a mess and I backed off as we approached the line.
Jeff looked good while he lasted, consistently near the front. Bummed that
Michael crashed but very grateful for the bottle. I doubt I could have finished without it.
Will definitely come back to this race.

Yes - this race is worth coming back to. For sure.

Sounds like it was a bit of a bummer race. Lots of riding at the front and WDC attacks too, so good try guys. Hope you all have better luck and more fun at the next race...
Feel better Mike... heal-up well.

I second the Cielo. It's a really fun little race.
Heal up, Mike.

Cool. I was looking at this race last night. Wish there was a separate Cat 4 race. I'm debating this one over Fitchburg. While I think Fitchburg is probably better, logistically this one seems more manageable (short drive, no need to take a day off from work). Any other 4s planning to do this one or Fitchburg?

Fitchburg is a monument.

I'd probably be in for the 4/5 at Cielo.
As much as I would love to go to Fitchburg, a long weekend away is not in cards for me.

Stokes State Forest! And a 45+ field. I may have to go.
Does the fact that it is listed in bikereg mean that we should ignore the PENDING stamp on the race web site?

I emailed the promoters and they said the race in on, they are just finalizing a few details and confirming race courses. But it is happening.

I think I'll be in for Cielo too. Gonna run it by Liz. Most likely a go though - can't see why not.
