Here's a nice one of the 3 of us in the 35+ race

Here's Whitey screaming for joy:

Kissena's 4/5 #2 crew (most of them anyway)

..aaand the missing KCC racer in 4/5 #2

Anyone going this Sunday? I'm not ready for GrantsTomb (knee) but should be able to do this one.
I'm racing Branchbrook. Also, it's on Saturday, not Sunday.
thinks me too
Chris, which race are you doing?
I'm down for the #2 race (Cat 4/5, start time 8:07am), and get just a bit more sleep.

Deadline for registration is today.
Depends on when I wake up...likely the Masters 45+ (don't laugh...if I hear you laughing I'm going to hit you with my walker)....and the probably the 35+

It's a carbon walker, right?
Well, that's why I was asking cause I might also be down for the geriatric race.
Carbon ???  Jules Pah-leeeaaasssseeeee.   You should be so lucky....It's Ti cha-cha....so when I hit you with it, you're gonna have problems.  A carbon walker would just do this....

I'm out this week (sad face).  My knee just is just ... ugh.

Hopefully next Saturday.
Signed up for 45+. Anyone want to join? I can drive from Brooklyn but can't stay for too long after that first race.
I just woke up...so there's that.  Yacks is sick...sorry Nelly.  Gonna need at least a week to recoup
hope u had a good race
I haven't really road raced in a couple years so riding an almost brand new bike and mixing it up with a bunch of old but still fast guys had me more nervous this morning than I've been at the start of a race in a long time.

By a couple laps in I was settled in and comfortable. For the most part the old guys know how to ride a bike and with the exception of one wheel caught in a rear derailleur (everyone stayed upright) it was all smooth sailing.

I didn't see much of the front of the race but did work my way up there a couple times to see what the scenery was like. A couple small moves got off the front but nothing stuck and it ended in a big ole sprint for which I sat at the back and watched.

The new bike was great.
Fun times at Branchbrook. Definitely warmer than last Saturday.

I was fairly active in the race, staying up front most of the time. I got to the front to pull back two people that were away since no seemed to care to chase, and a few times just to set a steady tempo (on occasions that I felt the field was going too slow). At one point me and another dude (he bolted and I followed) bridged to two people in a break, but unfortunately those two were already gassed and the 4 of us didn't go any where. Wasted effort?

Generally felt good and stronger than I thought this early in the season. It was a sprint finish and I was in the main field. Everyone stayed up right thankfully.

On a side note, there was a nasty crash in the masters 35+ on the bell lap. They delayed the 1/2/3 because of it. I heard someone was taken away in an ambulance. Hopefully he is ok.
Like the report...not the crash...That can be a very dodgy sprint as there is that little chicane before the line...I don't like sprinting there unless it's from a break.

Great job and great effort.
Not a wasted effort.  Sometimes you can let racers hang off the front and they come back, as you know.  But when you bridge, you don't know who you're bridging with.  Clearly someone who wanted to go faster (but still early in the season so he may have burned out).  This seems like a good opportunity to counter attack, get to the two, sit in for half a minute, when you realize it's not moving, jump.  Maybe your bridgemate goes with you. Or one of the other guys.  But now you're ahead of the break.
ABC.  Always Be Closing.
Or, at least, always be thinking about closing.
Part of learning, and practicing, tactics for me, is not to have that shut out feeling.  Bridge to a break, it's going nowhere, you're done.  There's more to tactics.  Can I counter, can I jump from here?  Often, the answer is no.  But asking the question, and allowing for the possibility, opens options, and gives you greater incentive to push yourself harder, or realize, after the race, you made a solid decision (you decided, didn't let the actions of others decide for you) not to jump off in a counter attack.
Glad everyone in our crew stayed upright.
Nice report Phil. This guy has it covered...

So the knee is better and I'm coming out of my sickness.  I plan on getting out to Branchbrook Saturday morning for the 4/5 race at 7:57am.

For those that have done the Path before, what time did you get to the station?
Two weeks ago, when 4/5 Race #2 began at 8:07, we took the 6:55 train. To
take that same train and arrive in time for a 7:57 start would require some
hustle.
It's about 20 mins easy riding from the train to the start line. The train pulls roughly around 7:20. By time you get out of the station, it'll be about 7:30.

I would suggest taking an earlier train.
Any other takers for this race?
@Scott Kuhlke planning on it. not sure how strong I'll be, just coming back from a pretty gnarly sickness
Leaning towards it. I need to prove something to myself after a dismal race at Grant's Tomb.
Sweet!  Eddie is on the fence ... but let's push him to yes and make it 4 (at least) total.  I've signed up for the 4/5 @7:57am (2nd race).  Registration closes tomorrow.
Yacks wants in...an Audi turned in front of me tonight.  Fortunately the lad left me enough room to unclip, smash my pedal into his rear door and powerslide into his trunk.  Audi = dents and missing paint   Yacks = bruised forearm and tweaked back.   Overall Yacks =1 Audi = 0
I should be there Sat. barring unforeseen pains.
Yacks vs Audi, so many Gif opps!

I was actually more upset when I got home and I thought the bike computer failed to record my ride...but alas it did
