The 123 break had Augusto, Jermaine, Euris, Dioslaki, the Somerville KOM dude named Elvi and apparently a young Jamaican track star. That's one bad ass bunch; scary strong. We didn't get anyone up there and the chase was futile. Not much you can do about that.
These guys are all pretty mortal. Elvi is rumoured to be juiced from a good source, but otherwise no reason to look at them as better than us. That Jamaican kid is strong but not a smart racer, although he appears to be learning quickly. But our guys, you Vlad most definitely included, can hang in this bunch if you are at the right place at the right time. Chasing it down with a small squad is a different story, but worth trying.

Agreed.  Just have to be on our toes.
Someone (victor chan?) took a kissena group photo after the race, anyone know where it went?

Sorry I won't be able to next week.

I'm not sure what was going on with that leadout for a white-jersey Fred yesterday; I don't actually remember it.

Looks great though!

That was me starting the lead-out for the KOM a bit too soon....
Ok, the last one is this Sunday. Who's in?
I think you mean this Saturday.

I should be there.  New Dad Marc is talking about coming.  so, to I think Myles.  And Ragot.

I should be there in the 4's, provided I don't have to go into work super early.
I'm in for this one.
Hey Guys,

I'm more or less out of racing for the month of August. Its a combination of work, needed rest, travel and weddings. I might jump in some races in Chicago if I can find something while I am there.

Sheeeeet....poor Perlberg, going to the land of lost. Dude, I'll get you a calendar of part 1 of your "crit-ducation."
I'm in for the 5s.

Sweet. I'm looking at the Winfield Crit (saturday and Sunday)

There is also the vernon hills grand prix on Sunday:

If i upgrade to cat 2, I can race once on twice on Saturday and Once on sunday. If I stay a 3, I can race once on Saturday, twice on Sunday. decisions decisions.

There has to be a weeknight race, no?

The Winfield crits are organized by my old team Athletes By Design, have good prize money and will attract good fields.

For weeknight racing, you'd have to head to the Northbrook Velodrome on Thursdays for track racing. Tuesdays, Kenosha Wisconsin (about 90minutes from Chicago) is the place to be for fixed gear fun. Friday, there are kids and beginner track races at Northbrook. Cat 4/5 18+ for example. But you'd be a ringer, the Friday nights are really for the kids and super duper beginners.

I've got the word out...if there are any more "can't miss races" in August, I'll let you know.
Cool. Let me know if anyone you know has a track bike to lend. I've never raced track so count me as a super duper beginner there.
Heh.  Beginner...

I'm probable for Saturday in the 123.
Same here. I just registered in the 123.
I'm in for the Cat 4s.

With the KOM points I got last Sunday I was supposed to be in the money (3rd) overall going into the final race, but they gave my points to someone else. Looks like they messed up the Cat 4 Sprint points as well as Alfonse didn't get the 6 points he earned and neither did Jim. There was some mix up at the end of the race where they had the wrong names attached to bib numbers. I assume this is a result of the same problem.

I reached out to Charlie, but I know he's out of town and can't probably do anything after the fact. They never announce points at the race so I couldn't protest and didn't think to ask.

I know this may sound petty, but it's the small goals that keep me going in a long series.

Oh well, looks like I'll just have to work harder to get that muffin money this week. Any other Cat 4s in?
it's not petty

make a big deal of this

i think it was Horatio Alger who said "The minute you settle for less than you deserve, you get even less than you settled for."

Reg'd.
I'm likely in for the 4s. Will know later today / tomorrow.
I will be the KOM Marshall for the last time this season.
I'm in for the 4s. Not sure what will happen with the jersey competitions but I'm definitely up for helping out.
I will be there to help Jeff C and Jim to get points for 3rd place in each jersey competition. I can do either leadout or sweeper duty. Nothing like having the green jersey sitting up as Jim and Yack take off. We can surprise folks at least once in that way.

thanks for this, Thierry.

the spirit of kissena is strong in this one.
I was inspired on Tuesday by Jan's 10 lap breakaway at FBF and would like to volunteer for early-suicide breakaway in order to prevent Torres from overtaking Yacks in the sprint competition. Anyone in the suicide mentality can join, but perhaps Jim, Jeff C or Tito want to join to help establish their position in the points competitions. I think the second time over the hill would be a good time to go, but we may want to go the first time as the pack may be more likely to let a few of us roll off the front without getting alarmed. Either way we should see if we can get a few strong non-Kissenas to go so that the pack will be less likely to chase (as they did when David, Jules and I went off late in the race last week) and so that other teams can help with the blocking effort.

We could then also have a second "group" ready to counter if/when we get caught and get some riders to volunteer in advance to help out with lead outs.

What do you all think?
That was Alfonso Torres tearing up the sprints today....he can't catch Dan....but he can grab my 2nd place spot in the finale....I am going to have to shadow him in the sprint and try and come around him...if he shows up next week. You know it wouldn't suck if a couple of teammates went up the road and grabbed the sprint points....Torres needs 4 points to tie me...I would just need one of the sprints taken off the table. Either way I will be having a drag race with him next weekend....good times. Yack

Jeff

Have you reached out to James Washington? He ran the race in Charlie's absence.
are the results and overall posted from last week?  Any attacks before the sprint are welcome...I will shadow Alfonso Torres....all I have to do is finsh right behind in both sprints or ahead of him in one.  Again if one sprint is taken away via a break or attack before the sprint...then it is game over.  If Dan can set up a 2 man train going into the sprint, I can attack early.  Ideally I would be 2nd wheel as we hit the boards by the parking lot.  I would need Dan right behind me with at least 2 kissenas behind him.  I attack and Dan soft pedals it...the delay should be just enough for me to make it to the line.  If Torres can come around 3 guys and bridge the gap to me....well then he deserves it.  Very exciting! Yacks

I'm down for the early break, if it means the first KOM - I can then lead Jeff C. out later for the second one.

Me likes the sprint plan, too.
