Raining in midtown right now. sigh.
what midtown are you in?
You may pencil it in but you're also leaving that job ...
i too have commitments in my work calendar
^ to be fair my lack of commitment has predated my resignation.
I'm going to try for this Thursday.

saw Phil Maronilla, Malcolmson and Condon riding north on flatbush as i was walking south with my delicate little invalid wife and her gigantic recovery boot.

dudes looked good.

Malcolmson had a hell of a green jersey on his back.

how'd it go for you guys, besides looking pretty?
WDC is back!

Id like to go along because you said we looked good but I think that was Hubbard you saw with them. I was in the group behind them, with Clifford, Brendan and Thierry. But we also looked good...

Nothing to report on my part. I quit half way through the race. I just wasn't feeling it tonight. I've been feeling blah about biking lately in general.
yeah for whatever reason, tonight wasn't my night.  it was like i was watching the race on youtube.  just sort of watched moves happen.  maybe my brain was fried from 6 hours of multiple choice questions.  i think i need a break from the racing for a week or three.  two laps to go i almost dropped myself.  it was a bit like harlem: i was racing but i wasn't in the race.  weird feeling.

i'm starting to feel truly ashamed at my utter inutility to mr. "big green monster" malcolmson.  look for enhanced acuity come august.  i'll start to recognize the bell laps.  you deserve more help, sorry i've been remiss.

will post video once it's converted; might take me a bit longer than usual.

women of kissena: there is a woman who races in these and does quite well! come join!
I am beat. Placed 7th, and some sprint points, which was disappointing because the yellow jersey flatted and a win would have put me in yellow. Tough race, spread myself a bit thin covering Axis. Big thanks to Patrick who twice dragged me up to a break—great efforts. Thanks to Daniel too who chased back early moves. Cabanara was on form, I couldn't even hang with him once I was there. Brendan, you did good to stay in there, my only suggestion would be to bridge instead of pull on the front—more fun for you and puts onus on other team to chase. Phillip, a lot of people got shelled tonight. I really just suffered that whole race, it was awful. But If you need mojo recharge, take a week off maybe?
I got thrashed tonight. Double calf cramps and some stomach issues didn't help either. I bridged up to the split pack on the last lap only to met with a surge that I couldn't hold. From there I just pedaled solo tooth finish. I may need some rest before the weekend. Oh well it was good training. On the bright side WDC thought I looked pretty.
How could I forget WDC... good to hear your baaack. What happened to foot? Wedding awesome?

I also keep seeing a new member mystery Kissena looking very pro when I ride back up West Side bike path. Who dat?

i'm in for tonight.  weather report looks a little iffy though.
where can i find updates as to whether tonight's race is on?  i cannot find a facebook page or anything.
What?  You couldn't find the Regional Orthopedics Tues. . . Ah, never mind.  It's here.
that's the tuesday series.  it doesn't cover the w.s. united thursday series.
@Mark - maybe email Horace?  prince3023@aol.com

yeah I'm going not going to make it.

Kissena leading the team competition—how is that calculated!?
Tied for second with Carbonara 8 pts in arrears of Frias.
Leading green jersey by 12pts, although Lance seems to have found his perogi legs.

Shoot, sorry, Mark.  Wrong series. . .
yeah that was an interesting race.  dan and i roll to the start line, sitting with the 3/4 group, when they announce they're going to combine the 3/4s with the 1/2/3s.  i would summarize my race like this:

  • 1st lap: holy shit this is easy -- i am 100% ready for cat 1
  • 2nd lap: ok this is a little harder; perhaps i am more suited for cat 2
  • 3rd lap: right it's hurting now, probably i am a cat 3
  • 4th lap: am dying here; i am definitely a cat 4
  • 5th lap: perhaps cat 5 actually
  • 6th lap: fuck it -- i am nothing but a commuting cat 6.
in all i got in eight laps and 35 mins.  in a weird way i am kinda happy with that.  at least i have seen a glimpse of the difference between 1s and 4s.  conclusion: yeah there's plenty more work to do.
that's happened to me a couple of times, and while they offer to give you your money back prior to the race, it's kinda lame b/c you've already taken the time to go all the way out there.  IMHO, they should credit you another race.

Like you, I didn't last very long!
Good work guys. Congrats John. Brendan... you may be onto something with a week off from racing, recharge and you will return fresher and faster.
where's all the "i'm going but it might rain" posts?

good luck tonight folks.   hydrate!  avail yourselves of the secret water fountain.
I'm starting to get kitted up, but worried this may be a bad idea.  Anyone else heading out?
Tough night at Floyd with the heat, but a good race.  The 3/4 field got neutralized twice as the 123 break passed us on one lap along the back stretch, and then the rest of the group on another lap, slowing us way down, bunching us up, everyone got a breather and time to get out of the saddle, stretch, which meant everyone was in good shape for the final laps, and a bunch sprint.  I watched racers start twitching and the energy climb as we got ready to race again, with Charlie yelling out at us, 'the race is back on'.

Paul Carbonara drifted around us like a shark, over to the right, over to the left, bridging gaps just at the moment they looked too far.  The guy in the yellow jersey stayed on his wheel.  I'm not sure where they finished.
Phil and I agreed we were going to sit in, probably drift off the back and try to finish the race, and then I watched him in every damned break there was!  Nice job, sir.

I finished, and pushed pretty hard, but wasn't near the front.  It was a good workout.
I felt good tonight, and told myself to stay up front no matter what.  I bridged to a 3 man break on the second to the last lap, which in my mind I thought was the last lap.  I was hanging on for dear life in that break and when i heard the bell in the distance, I thought to myself, ah sh!t.  I knew I wouldn't be able to hold on, but we were caught by then anyway and everyone came together.  I hung on to the back and rolled to the finish.  I was cooked by then.

Not your usual wind pattern tonight.  The head wind came after the first turn, and nothing on the start/finish.

Always good times racing and seeing fellow KCCs on Tuesday nights.
What the hell kind of slice is THIS?!?

Man, I miss Slice, especially when The Simpsons shilled for them in the 90s.

There was a lot of that going on during the race, which was the only part of the race that seemed really dangerous, as each time someone did that, a group of 10 guys would change course in that direction also, prompting me to yell a couple of times so people wouldn't swerve into me.
I've seen this happen in park races each time a guy in front pulls off, and others follow him instead of taking the lead.  But this time it wasn't just a few on the front, but 12 guys who would slide right, or slide left following the leader, like a giant, fluid snake slithering along the dusty, rock-strewn Floyd course.
