Floyd Bennett Field

Fun times at tonight's first Floyd race of the season. Finished in a bunch sprint. We got neutralized in the 4th lap since it's the first race and we suck.

Stayed up front during the first half but I ended up working too hard so I decided to just slide back in the field towards the end and take it easy (it's never that easy either way). Ironically Chaim started riding up front so pretty much the whole time there was a Kissena up front.

Lacking snap in my legs but it's early so it's to be expected.

Last lap after the start finish, big crash. Chaim and I were towards the front so we were unaffected. It must be pretty bad since they called a second ambulance. Unfortunate.

@ChaimSeewald sorry to bounce immediately. I didn't see you at the reg area and I wanted to get home to Queens fairly quickly.

No race next week. Charlie's away.
Results. Chaim came in 12 (awesome) and I rolled in 24
What do you think this guy's listening to on his earphone?

I'm going to go with c) GWAR!

My vote is for:

D) How to race bicycles podcast.
He seems fully committed to his Team Sky cosplay, so I have infer that he's pretending to listen to his directeur sportif. He was riding like this in the most recent Prospect Park L&C Cup race, too.

Hey man, if I gave you my base layer, do you think you could get Chris Froome to sign it? Thanks dude, really appreciate it...don't forget to follow me on Strava!
well, to be fair, we are all doing cosplay. ;)
Is anyone heading to Floyd tomorrow?
I'm out for tomorrow, but it looks like I could go next week.
I'm in for tomorrow weather permitting. But that's not looking great at the moment ...
Tomorrow's forecast being what it is, Thursday is looking pretty good...
Potential thunderstorms - hitting the trainer this afternoon, but I'll be there on Thursday. Any others?
Let's go with Thursday. I've just realised I have no clean kit Kissena or otherwise.
Is tonight the night?
Tonight is the night!
Have you pre-registered? Want to meet up to ride down together?
I have not pre-registered, just bringing cash. Sounds good, let's meet at GAP at 5:20
Meeting you guys at GAP! I've also not pre-registered!
Flatted on the way over to meet you guys & my spare tube had the wrong size valve....

results??
Just me and Riley out tonight. First time out at Floyd. It was exceptionally painful. Mixed 4/5 field of about 30 riders? Maybe more. Anyway it went off pretty hot. I wasn't near the front and my legs were surprised by the speed. It was fairly strung out for the first lap and a group got off the front. I was probably at the front of the second group. At some point the front group were within touching distance then there was another attack immediately. I ended up having my hardest ever training session riding between groups on my own. A solid workout.
Main takeaway - do everything possible to hang on to that front group. Given how hard I was working I'm confident I could have ridden with them. Stupid that I didn't do this given it was exactly what I did at Battenkill.
Verazzano was rolling deep, with Alex Koch currently in the series jersey. There's six+ of them out there so four took off while two sat back and blocked the pack. Interesting strategy, it definitely broke up the group but I don't think the lead lasted (it was too early).
Tomorrow Riley and I are riding Floyd. Feel free to join, we'll be meeting at GAP for 1715.
Last night was not good. Embarrassing even. Ended up getting a good team work out with Riley and Eddie though so all was not lost. Next time.
Yeah brutal. But a hell of a workout none the less. Racing the 4/5 field is a real challenge and any mistakes are amplified by the fact we're alongside some very strong riders. It was awesome seeing Eddie make the first break and head out with the leaders before the Verrazano guys blocked the field (same move as last race).

Thanks James for rallying. It was great to stay amped and go fast despite not being in the pack and encouraging to see we weren't the only ones falling back - seems like about half the field was with us by our last lap
Well done.  It's great to have a C training race on the schedule so you can try new things, get dropped, jump off the front, and have fun while not feeling (too) bad about it.  Floyd lets you see everything that's happening in front of you and is a big workout.  It's also tough racing against higher categories.

Chaim and I raced on Tuesday in the 3/4 and it was a solid race.
