any news about the 3 race in the morning?

The race was pretty tough and fast. We made a few moves early, everything was being pulled back in.

Eventually, we missed a move with Al B and some guy in black and green. Missed the finkraft bridge. They were away most of the race and our bridge / chase attempts kept them in sight but never connected until 1 lap to go. I made the final connection and found the field in tow. Ended in a field sprint, we were out of position and gassed and got nothing.

Big thanks to Stokes for dropping out of the race to give me his wheel when I flatted. For the record, Campy 9 speed works just fine with a shimano 10 speed drive train.

Those are some great photos of the kids race that Victor put on FB . Some look VERY serious, just pint sized. I love the number of kids out in Star Track kits as well, thats great if it translates into more juniors racing bikes (outside of their program).

Sarah won! I hope she wears the medal all around the house. I wore my Cat 5 Lucaraldi Cup 1st place medal to work the next Monday and everyone thought I was in the special Olympics. Which is kind of true.

First time racing in a little over a month. Flatted after exactly one lap. Props to Vlad for quickly handing me his wheel, but since I was on my cross bike the brake cable didn't have enough slack in it to keep the pads off the rim.

This was following one of the bearing cups seizing up in my bb Saturday. Had to leave the bike in the shop overnight. The guys at Habitat Soho were the only ones who had the Trek Shimano BB90 set in stock. The bottom of the left side bearing cup is fixed to the crank spindle. Really great people in that shop. Thanks to Dave and Chris!

So new crank + new bearings = speedier.

most memorable part of today's Floyd race -- during the post-race park laps with ryan and whitey, a squirrel literally dropped out of a tree onto the road in front of us, which whitey proceeded to run over. think he only caught the critter's tail.

beautiful day for a race - nice roll out flatbush with ryan, whitey and allen. my race was pretty forgettable. was feeling good at the start, but did not race smart. i spent way too much time yo-yoing off the back. i also was feeling a little bit apprehensive in the field today..those sharp-ish turns felt really sketch, so i chose to hang back.

it cost me way too many wasted efforts just to stay latched on. got gapped after a 2nd lap crash (involving Patrick - who i assume is OK as I think he finished the race) and then gapped 2-3 more times after getting caught behind guys who flatted out. all that added up to one too many chases to get back with the group and i finally ran out of gas. game over. lesson learned...

loved seeing all the kids out there - jim the photos of you & your daughter are sweet!

@WilliamDC: THERE'S A NEW SHERIFF IN TOWN. I thought about getting a victory shot with my quarry, but I wasn't wearing my cammies. I would also like to thank Rudy Project and CycleOps for making this kill possible.

If you re-examine the photo in question, you'll notice it wasn't a camo ensemble but rather a Canadian tuxedo

I need some help with this. Am I supposed to care when I'm not listed in the results? I mean, my placings were meaningless - rolled in at the back in the 3's and DNF'ed in the 123's, but I still feel jipped somehow.

I don't actually care though. I would if I placed.

This is a losing battle. It's a great frustration in domestic local racing--and worse here in New England/Mid-Atlantic regions. Despite all our technology and cameras if you are not in the money, you can never count on getting placed. I've complained about this in years gone by and always, without fail, it gets turned around on me, like I'M some kind of asshole for wanting to see my name on a results sheet in 32 (or 25th...don't you know that the 7 assholes in front of me got lapped?) place, as some kind of validation for spending hours slogging it out on the open road trying to just finish while the rest of the off-the-backers, climbed off in the feedzone like pussies the first time they couldn't keep up with Jeremy Powers.

It's even bullshit that in our park races, where we can race up against 100 guys and all they can bother to place is 10.

Nothing says, YOU DON'T EXIST, like finishing a race, out of the money, and not getting a place.

Even worse if USAC loses all of the results for all the fields. For Cat 5s like myself it's a little problematic since the new upgrade requires 10 finishes to upgrade. Ironically, the race I just discovered gone is the 4/28 L&C race and after a little more investigation the 4/21 race is gone too. I suspect that the results for the last race overwrote the earlier results. I just sent Charlie an email with a note about the issue.

I bought a photo from Victor from the Orchard Beach Crit and I have since apparently become his muse. I was pack-fill at best at Bound Brook, and there were like 5 shots of me in there with a sort of horrified look on my face.

I did make a couple attacks in the middle part of this race and he happened to be on that part of the course at that time.

Quick question for those familiar with the "rules."

They announced a free lap for flats, but what about when you topple over someone and wait to see if he is okay?

A guy went down right in front of me on the 2nd lap and I literally rode over him. Ouch

I was okay (which was good since this was my first race since breaking my shoulder at Battenkill), but I wanted to see that the guy on the ground was okay. The marshall said he didn't have a phone to call the ambulance. He was going to ride away to get the ambulance and leave the rider!

I told him to stay and warn the incoming fields and I went off to get the ambulance. I rode in solo TT mode for two laps thinking it was better to get a workout than quit, but then I decided to slow up and let the field catch me.

I jumped back on but wasn't sure if it was legal to do so. Wasn't gonna stop by an official and ask during the race. Didn't have enough kick in the end to make a difference, but still wondered.

By the way, it was fun to have the kids "race." Jim's daughter looked especially cute. My guys on their mountain bikes had no idea what they were in for. My younger boy wanted to quit half way through but I kept encouraging him. Later that day he fell sick with a fever. No dad of the year award for me.

@Patrick: At FBF? On Turn 2 of the the second lap? You can take a lap or two to care for an injured rider. I personally would have just waited there and jumped back in without the individual time trial. It would be odd, to say the least, to allow a free lap for a rubbing brake but not for helping an injured rider.

I would imagine if the race is important enough to be strict about things, it'll be the kind of race where first aid arrives quickly.

Dad's can never do anything 'right' But it doesn't mean you shouldn't stop trying.
And by the way, the Moms pretty much suffer from the same thing in the end. So don't worry about any intermediate power dynamics.
