Reg'ed for Masters.

David, what's the latest? How are you feeling?

I'm in for Masters.
Smallish field thus far for the 50 mile 123 race. We have a good crew:
Daniel Hubbard Brooklyn NY Kissena Cycling Club 7/12/12
Michael Perlberg Brooklyn NY Kissena Cycling Club 7/11/12
Christian Refakis Huntington NY Kissena Cycling Club 7/12/12
J.P. Partland New York NY Kissena Cycling Club 7/13/12
Keith Snyder Brooklyn NY Kissena Cycling Club 7/12/12
Vlad Preoteasa Brooklyn NY Kissena Cycling Club 7/12/12
W.S. United and Mengoni are the other teams with representation. And Sommerville is in full douche bag mode ready to do stupid stuff and be obnoxious. '

It'd be nice to get a few more guys. William?
I'm gonna show up day of the race money in hand. they closed the 4/5 field at 77 when limit was 80...
I expect Rene will be on hand as well.

LIke last week, I expect the race will be fast-ish and at some point, people will start giving up.  I think it's cover the moves defensively for the first half and then try to exploit the strung-out field in the second.  When there's an intermediate sprint, stay up front and be ready for the attack after the sprint.
4/5s (especially the 4s) -

I see my fitness improving , and I am lasting longer in races, but I am still popping out of the back. I think it has more to do with my lack of race experience than being a pure fitness issue . In my last two races, I did stupid shit (in hindsight) that made so much sense at the time. If you see me wasting an ounce of energy - especially in the early laps - please please please yell at me.

thanks

Joshua

He's broke so I don't think we will.

I have a feeling that, with all the 'prestige' of the team 'invitational' (I heard that they started spamming teams when it looked like it was going to be weak) event on Sunday, this might be a perfect candidate for a sneaky win.

Horace's primes will keep things interesting, but the field might make the decision to sit up if either an extremely early or fairly late move gets established to conserve energy for Sunday.
Cat 4/5 race report. 9 Laps

Race started relatively spirited but soon calmed down. Multiple attacks from Mr 10 meter hero from Taylors, in fact I think he attacked twice every lap. I was mostly following wheels. I had spotted Sammy T before the race and have sprinted against him in the past so glued myself to his wheel for most of the race. I saw the front leading up the hill and along the back rollers to the downhill just to see how the legs were feeling, felt good.

Last lap I was moving up (behind Sammy). 300 to go we were up there ready to pounce. 200m to go he starts to go, we were top 4, im on him and about to kick out then bam, riders everywhere smashing into each other and I went over the top of them.

My data has me at 817w just before I was about to kick and I hit the deck around 53kph.

No idea at all what happened but heard a few things about 2 TT riders on the road refusing to move and someone road into them? I didnt see this but heard it from a few guys. I think about 15 guys went down, some pretty banged up. Im mostly fine, the usual rash to the arm leg and back but seemed to have got off lightly.

Such a feeling of disappointment, I was feeling good and throughout the race was waiting for that moment, 9 laps done only for it to be taken away by someone else in the last 200m, sucks. Feel like I might try attacking next time rather than holding out for a sprint.

Central Park tomorrow, the Venge needs some love after todays spill so ill be on the backup bike tomorrow......
Hard race.  I feel like if there were red numbers to win, I'd have won them.  Must have bridged to 9 out of 10 different moves.  Goddamn those AXIS/Brauer guys are strong.

Made it out there with Jan (sp?) of former Kissena fame & a Brauer, Axis, Bike Planet trio for a preme lap; my thinking was I need the experience working in breaks with guys who know how and I was going to be damned if I let that money go to guys who were planning on sitting in.

I figured I'd "join" the 3 when it came time to sprint - that was until Jan unleashed and I more or less sat up in amazement.  We were probably going 25/6 mph when he jumped and he left all 3 of us with almost as much speed as we already had.  I'm going to need some serious dope to compete with that.

Other than that it was a fantastic race; really hard, really safe, really interesting.  I wish there were more of them.

I almost didn't go; I'm at the end of a big block of training and when the alarm went off my entire body screamed for mercy.  One more day of hard TT'ing and I can rest... one more day...

Oh, and the lady on the Brompton in the middle of the road was a nice "surprise" early on.

Numbers say 1:30 at 280 watts, 25.6 mph average.
@ Ashely. That sucks.

Our race was 15 laps. That is pretty long for a park race, 50.1 miles.

I was hurting early. We are doing a pretty good job of staying near the front and being attentive. Christian, Vlad, Daniel, and Dave were staying up front pretty regularly.

Dave made a few good bridge attempts as well.

JP stayed near the front but his chain was skipping like crazy so he couldn't really attack.

We missed the first big break. Brian Breech flatted from the break and then Mengoni (actually, just Augusto) chased hard and brought it within striking distance. If it wasn't for that, we might have blew it.

After a prime with 5 to go the field was really strung out. I moved up a bit and saw Sommerville turning on the gas. It wasn't a hard attack but before I knew it we were away.

I was hurting bad. Really bad. Hanging in for dear life. Skipping pulls. Cramping on the uphills. Ouch.

With 3 to go Sommerville attacked and BH went with him. I thought it was a bad idea (Sommerville can be very uncooperative and confusing to race with). But they were gone. I think from how I was doing physically they would have dropped me.

They end was really tough and all I could muster was 7th/8th. There was a lot of attacking and whatnot and it was bit confusing. Upset that is all I could get but it was the best I could do with the legs I had.

I'm still recovering. Hopefully I'll have something in the morning.

Mike

Results, bros
36/87...Only 13 spots behind my hero, Scott Savory !!
Cesar Marte and I did some elbowing in the final 200 m. I had been working hard all race, and while I could driiiiiiiive at the end to hold a good sprint position the way I have learned to obtain in the 4's, I couldn't kick the way Scott etc did because I didn't have enough fitness/power.

Hauling 215 up the hill 15 times in a row wears me out, I gotta get better watts/kg and fitness/bravery if I am to be successful in the 123 level.

Need a solid winter. A very solid one.
I may want to emphasize training for breakaways instead of focusing on the sprint. Sprinting is a good skill but if I had my choice I'd rather win/place the way Perlberg does.
@ Christian.

I'm flattered, but don't quit training your sprint yet!

JP talked a lot in his training talk about how we should all consider ourselves all-rounders until we really figure out if we can specialize in something.

So I think, yes it is great to train yourself for breaks so you have another tool to use. But you should still think of yourself as someone who can mix it up in the finale. And we need someone who can do it.

P.S. Don't wait for the winter, race cross!
Sprinting is a good skill but if I had my choice I'd rather win/place the way Perlberg does.
We all would.

If I could offer a little bit of advice: step your game up and work on developing your weaknesses, but use what the good lord gave you. Remember, Michael Jordan sucked at baseball.

I say this sincerely as someone who's been getting his ass handed to him by the 123's all season long. We'll get to a place where we can throw down regularly, but there's a long way to go.

It's not supposed to be easy.
Gentlemen, I appreciate the advice. Keep it coming.

@ Stearns the invulnerable.

I'm amazed at your gusto, what a terrifying experience. So relieved you made it through.
Wives of the world are high-fiving each other right now.

Let us know if there's anything we can do to help.
@ Perlberg and co.

Nice work! Congrat's on the result.
